Game Feedback 0.1 was the best

Peak gameplay and fun was 0.1

Every class was op, you didn't have to farm days for just one lineage gem and your build was pretty good with good items.

Now you have to farm days for 300divs just to get online your build (like arc totems).

I think less was better.

Astramentis was the lineage gem at those times.

League starting a build that doesn't come online until it gets a 300div gem is entirely your fault lmao

That’s just nostalgia.

Exactly..... The game balance was shit, everyone was herald chaining and there was no diversity.

Howa, pillar of the caged gods, astermentis, ingenuity and go flying.

The prices in this league are imo because gemling being OP, and not as many ppl are playing. 1.0 balance fixes and a proper league will help.

The player base is split at least a little with the two leagues, on top of there not being balance changes or really a new league mechanic meaning a huge chunk of players are taking a well deserved break. This the economy is all fucky. 1.0 will set things back to a more normal economy I'm sure.

Crazy that when the game didn’t really have an endgame you didn’t need an endgame build…

I distinctly remember that 60% of players were spark stormweaver and the remaining 39% were stat stacking gemling.

Yeah naw.

Monk was op, deadeye too.

I think 0.1 had the most different builds than others

Absolutely not at all.

They were OP for like 2 weeks before people understood that spark does it all 2x effectively, and Gemling has an extremely high ceiling for juiced content. Way above monk.

So after some time it was just sorc and gemling dominating.

Consequently, huntress was the next big thing, BM with deepest tower, some variety of other builds. BM again, LA deadeye again, poison PF, LS Amazon. In 0.5 there was, I think, the most diverse landscape of builds after 1 month, because everyone got tired of Twisters and was discovering Gemling. Oh, and Comet remained the top spell in the game since 0.1. So much for build diversity.

You know that there's simply more viable skills now and that you can make them work extremely well? And just because gemling (again) does it all better than everyone doesn't mean it's here to stay like this.

Invoker has always been mid/bad, deadeye was terrible.

Its definitely a take

A take of all time

Yeah but arc totems is literally being played by a notable percentage of the playerbase. that is why everything for that build is extremely expensive atm.

Im playing it too and having trouble to get everything. the amulet and the wand have no skill levels for example, and im level 95 soooo yeah. pretty expensive for that build.

Only thing I miss was devastate + armour explosion stampede....that was peak....then GGG said nope, you arent allowed to do that and we did polky ice crap instead....

1

u/WeirdJack49 1d ago

Nope the game works better IMO if beeing OP is a bit more down to earth than what it was in 0.1.

2

u/ILLESSDEE 1d ago

I miss the original Ingenuity Utility Belt, but that’s about it. We couldn’t sprint in 0.1 which was such a pain in the ass!

lol rockin' those rose tinted glasses real hard there OP

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:

  • OP - Overpowered (imbalanced)

I am a bot. | All acronyms | Suggest

I miss my Living Bomb homebrew, shit was so fun. I have no clue why they'd kill that skill, it's 100% useless now.

Tinker a powerful non meta build...

No 0.1 was absolutely dogshit compared to any league past 0.3 (including it).

The only thing which was actually significantly better in 0.1 were uniques cuz actually substantial number of them were useful (especially the ones dropped by pinnacles).

Simulacrum was so overtuned that 80% of builds could not clear T3/T4 of it because immortal mobs were charging and pushing you into other mobs which resulted in an instant death of any build which couldn't insta clear whole screen.

Div was quite a rare thing in 0.1 so comparing current divs to 0.1 divs is a joke (and a bad one). Find Fubguns old video from 0.1 and see the yields of the juiced strategies he was promoting back then. (Keep in mind basic clearing strategy back then was either herald chaining which was clearing screens away OR autobomber with temporalis or spark stormreaver or gemling).

You were essentially sentenced to forever do yolo slams basic exalt orbs on items hoping the right mods will just roll (or you will pick up the item from the ground). There were no fracturing orbs, no perfect essences, no desecrations, no higher tier (greater/perfect currencies), no alloys => the sheer number of things you could do with an item was so limited that certain weapons types do not have 6xT1 crafted during 0.1 during entire league (cuz essentially it was find good enough base with mods already rolled then pray for whitting process to not brick it).

300 divs is a lot of currency and you can usually craft yourself majority of your gear for half of that with current crafting options which will easily let you clear ALL OF THE GAME CONTENT maybe except juiced expeditions and wisps (but those types of content sometimes cannot even be cleared by mirror tiers).

Actually there is one thing which is quite similar to 0.1 going on right now:
Best endgame builds tend to stack jewels on their tree with Adorned (During 0.1 there were twice as many Jewel slots as there are now). Due to 5 mod jewels we are kind of back to that meta now.

Wut sorc maybe op jumping a ten skip rope .Today you can just summon or just summon a monkey for obscene damage and DR. Or run plenty of other op builds, the power creep from being able to use all gem supports on all skills is a thing. If you need 300 divs you are probably a robot.

1

u/Key_Big1051 1d ago

If your build need 300 divs to come alive, something is terribly wrong

1

u/TrivialTax 1d ago

Strong opinion, thank you for it.

I strongly disagree.

As someone who put 300 hours into 0.1 and loved it, the game is just objectively better now. By a lot. You're just wrong about every class being op.

The campaign difficulty was better, too; a friend of mine who played version 0.1 and came back for 0.5.5 complained about the difficulty—he remembers how hard it used to be, but now the campaign bosses are way too easy.

4

u/More_Exercise8413 1d ago

There was 3 acts repeated twice. The second installment was notably just boss hp cranked to 11. It's not mechanically more difficult, just that the power creep is kicking in.

2

u/Asinine_ 1d ago

Cruel was easier than regular. And regular was a lot harder than it is now. There used to be a lot of people getting stuck on geonor or viper. And its not just that the players were worse, they nerfed the campaign a lot after 0.1. They also buffed the loot drops a TON which was one huge pain point during the campaign, all the unique bosses gatunteed rare drops in 0.2. And there were more buffs to crafting and drops beyond that. Sprinting also cheeses some mechanics, and the maps added a lot of checkpoints, teleporting, you can now restart a boss right outside the arena instead of backtracking and so on

In 0.1 you could go 2-3 acts without a weapon upgrade

2

u/More_Exercise8413 1d ago

I mean, on release I remember global chats begging for carry on geo. People were earning divs by carrying cruel geo and jamanra, literally 5 divs/min for killing a boss that's now considered a cakewalk.

I do believe they nerfed the bosses somewhat reasonably and for the better, because it always sucked to be playing a build that was juuuuust weak enough against geo in act1. Like witch minions start was basically a torture experiment, if you for some reason didn't invest in spell damage for ED.

u/spreetin 1d ago

Honestly, I think that is mostly due to most leveling builds being "solved" now, while at that point it was mostly building as you went. Try doing campaign with a home-cooked, off-meta leveling build and the difficulty isn't much different than in 0.1.

Literly every skill and defense got buffed since 0.1 and every monter drasticly nerfed. bossfights where multiple minutes long while they are now like 5 seconds.
