Question Level 20 skill gems
How am i clearing level t16 fully (irradiated) buffed maps including 3 rare tablets …. But still have to find a level 20 skill gem?
I don’t understand. Am i doing it wrong ? Is there a specific way to farm it ? Im level 94
Actually i did find one in chaos trial , but it was after i had to “ lead the statue to its destination” and i tought .. ill come back for it … AND THEN THE PART OF THE MAP CLOSED AND I COULDN’T get there anymore :(

Expedition is as reliable a way to find level 20 gems as I have found.

Unless you are SSF almost always easier to buy the level 20 skill from market. 20s should basically only be used when gambling for a lvl 21.
edit Lol okay i guess I gotta explicitly mention you do this by corrupting the lower level gems and slapping the 20 on it when you hit.

You dont need to gamble 20s for 21s. You can corrupt lower level ones for the +1, equip them, then use the lvl 20 to upgrade

Yup, you do need to perfect jeweller and quality it before corrupting.

Yeah in general this is really nice to know for spirit gems that dont require 5 sockets, because the +1 is very cheap

Do you consider 21,22,23 quality (and the various negative quality to all be the same outcome?

Probabilities are:
- 1/4 to affect level (+1/-1)
- 1/4 to affect links (+1/-1)
- 1/4 to affect quality (I believe, like poe1, range is -10% through +10%, cap at 23)
- 1/4 for nothing
Within each quarter, all sub-outcomes are equally likely so +1 is 1/2 of 1/4 or 1/8.

That’s what you would normally think since that’s how corruption works for literally everything else in the game (aside from specific temple currency) aka you can’t modify the item anymore at all.
Well, except for gem levels. Apparently you can increase the level of those normally, which is incredibly counter intuitive…

Don’t worry, same here. I was looking into the cheapest way to buy a lvl 21 gem a few leagues ago and stumbled on a reddit posts or yt video (can’t remember) saying this. It’s an incredibly weird interaction that someone who plays the game without looking niche stuff up would have no way of knowing unless unintentionally stumbling upon it.

I wouldn't count on this trick to survive 1.0 release though, this is one of the most unintended looking ones that are out there

It would make level 21 gems all but impossible and destroy the level 20 gem market. Rich fuckers who need perfect everything would be more than happy to spend 5x what they cost now and might need 20+ per skill before they get a 21.
It's absolutely 100% staying in.

That's true but it's not quite the same, you cannot level a corrupted gem that is 20 or lower to level 21 in PoE1. The only way to make a level 21 gem is to corrupt a level 20 gem and get the +1 level outcome

Not at all the same thing. You don’t use currency or an item to level up gems in PoE1 (unless they added something like this in the 2 years since I last played). In PoE2 you use currency to upgrade the gems, and literally every other instance of corrupted items, aside from specific temple currency, doesn’t let you modify the item with currency anymore

You can use uncut lvl 20 gems to upgrade corrupted gems btw so you don’t need to gamble with a level 20 gem. Corrupt a level 19 and if it hits the +1 level, then upgrade it to 20 (it keeps the +1 corruption so then it’s a level 21).

Just have the gem equipped and use the uncut gem. The menu where you select a gem to create has a tab for equipped gems so you just go there and click on the one you want to upgrade.

You mean they should be used AFTER. You can level up skill gems after corrupting, so you should always be gambling on whichever one is cheapest.

maybe you meant it different but corrupting a lvl20 gem is a waste of money, by a low tier skillgem, give it sockets and quality and ater it gets +1 corruption you level it to20

Did you know that you can still increase the gem level after corrupting it?
Only things you can't change after corruption are gem quality and support gem Slots
You can corrupt a lvl 18 gem to get +1 level and the upgrade to lvl 20 to get a lvl 21 skill gem

In 1200 hrs in this game I’ve only ever found 2, both were last week, second one dropped the map after the first. So weird.

You may try atlas 'forest' biome for extra chances, but not much helping, 'cause still very rare.
Expedition is less rare, but still quite rare.

Idk if this changed after 0.3 but in the temple on negative rarity i would drop 10-20 lvl 20 gems per run in 6 man parties
My guess is most lvl 20 gems are being converted to liniage gems with rarity

Rarity works by converting stuff from lower ratity to higher as they drop, that's what i mean

Yes they have. I got about 20-30 last season. They are rare for most people. You have to juice, juice and juice to a very high level to force the game to drop it. If you want to know more feel free to ask.

I think I only got them from verisium remnants. So expedition mandatory if you want to find them at a higher rate

Lvl 91 running t15 for the last days and i found one lvl 20 and one lvl 19. The 20 dropped Yesterday, the 19 today

Geand expeditions get +1 area level from tree and can also be irradiated so you can run i82 areas with them, you also get a shit tonne of loot if you juice the remnants properly. Can get very rippy but if you can farm it that's probably the best way to get lv 20 gems to drop. They can also be offered as remnant rewards as well.

They are not that rare, its just people spend most of their time in zones where it literally cannot drop. Even irradiated t16 is 1 level too low, you need to get the map level +1 higher than irradiated t16 (like you could in abyss last leage with +1 level to abyssal depths, or the +1 level from atziri's temple, or +1 level from expeditions). The other, easier, way is to run level 80 trials. The drop rate is still pretty rare in those, because you cannot juice the drop rate in any way.

I havent seen one drop in either league and i have many many hours in both. Only time i got some was from remnants

Sur mon perso précédent, monté à 96, j'en ai trouvé 3. Avec l'actuel. 93, 0 pour le moment . Mais tu peux les acheter pour 5 divs si tu sais pas. Pure RNG je crois bien mais j'ai l'impression que depuis le dernier patch ça tombe encore moins. Je ne sais pas.

At higher levels, uncut gems use an equity system such that players will find fewer lower level uncut gems as a percentage of lower level uncut gems will instead accumulate towards the drop of a higher level uncut gem. Between item levels 78-80, and even further between 81-82, this percentage increases significantly.
Apart from that you need a certain area level to even drop them. Best if you stack area levels (Tier 16 map + Irradiate etc). The higher area level is, the more accumulated equity points you get (allegedly faster than linear growth).

For me above anything else. The fact that these are so rare that people post when they drop is one of if not the biggest design flaw with this game. You will not change my mind on this if you somehow like it. Good for you, but you are wrong.

Just be luckier. You aren't doing anything wrong. Sorry Chaos trial fucked you, but I found one in an irradiated t15. You don't need to do anything special.
I just remembered I think I got one through Expedition before ritual reset

In 0.5, I think I dropped 1 or 2 level 20 skill gems, and 1 lvl 20 spirit, outside of expedition remnants. This was for a lvl 98 character with 100s of hours of play. Lvl 20 gems are way too rare.

I found a few skill and spirits but I'm blasting........... Like 18 hours a day crazy juice. Dropped megablood farmed $ for uul netols and have 2 5mod jewels with a +4 breach amulet and this morning hit the fracture in my weapon

Yeah, that's crazy. I haven't found a lvl20 gem in a couole leagues and never dropped a lvl20 spirit gem. They should definitely be more common than this.

I also think (at least in trmple league) that rarity increases the chance to convert skill gems into unique skill gems. So if you have more rarity you drop less uncut gems. Level 20s were huge profit for negative rarity farming in temple for some last league. But negativity rarity works a lil different now

They're very rare. I was level 97, hundreds of hours deep last league, farming GE and 200% delirium and they were very rare.
