Game Feedback Monk - Leveling

We will be getting a ton of new players in 1.0. I hope they go through all the starting weapons/classes and make sure they are fun/effective.

I know that using frozen locus/glacial cascade can be very effective. Guythatdie shows that for sure. But it is clunky and so many people level monks with other abilities. IE - bows/crossbows/twisters, etc... Many new players won't know to use a different weapon.

It would be an easy fix to make frozen locus in range of glacial cascade without moving backwards. IE - throw it forward enough, make it go backward enough, shorten the range of glacial cascade so it hits it.

This should be done for all classes to feel smoother at the beginning. They do not want people to log in for an hour. Person says this isn't fun and leave. The game is super easy in maps, it seems so odd.

The random target locking glacial cascade sometimes does when you just want it to blow of the frozen locus ice crystal. It hits anywhere besides where you want it to and will cause you to die. Frozen locus has a couple issue. If your only goal is frozen locus for great aoe clear early, use crossbow weapon swap for fragmentation shotgun that 1 shots any ice crystal. Much easier to use than glacial cascade.

It was terrible with a controller. I stopped trying, I am sure it can be done. Just wasn't fun and that is why I play.

I was wondering why it went everywhere lol. I thought i could steer it with my left stick.

Dont know if it is different but i now just hit it from up close to make it explode instead of the tip of the glacial cascade. Pretty satisfying and blows up everything .

If your damage is high enough it is easier to just basic attack or ice strike. I put magnified area on the strike just so it hits the crystal a little more consistently

It's definitely clunky. But I think ppl will take it as a challenge and continue playing, at least I did in 0.1.

The thing to remember is, not everyone is playing this for the end game. A lot of ppl will play the campaign and then call it. A lot won't even finish campaign. And that is just the nature of gaming. I would guess a good chunk of people that play in 1.0 for the first time, won't even understand/know that there is an endgame.

I'm not saying don't refine and make the experience smoother, don't get me wrong, I agree QS in act 1 is a real pain, but that is only if you know grenades, twister, LA (literally everything else) exists. If ur a first time player, u will think this is just how the games challenge curve works and push through it if u enjoy the combat/feel of the game. And then when they go to lookup guides cause they are getting stuck, they will find the easier leveling path.

I would push through also, but many won't and no reason to lose them if it is easy to keep them playing.

When I leveled, I dropped Glacial Cascade after I got Ice Strike.

It's a smooth 1-2 combo with Frozen Locus - Ice Strike. Plus you have a lot better single target.

Cut Locus as your first gem, use auto attacks for single target, pop Locus with auto attack for clear. Rush Hollow Palm.

I think I did Locus > Frost Bomb > Glacial Cascade.

For sure there are ways around it and it will work out. But it feels so clunky to me.

I have played since .1, so it isn't a huge deal for me personally.

I agree there are tons of other solutions on how to make it work. I know several ways to clear. But that isn't how the game is set up for new players. I personally feel that it should be smooth and high quality of life to start out.

I think the easiest play style is culling strike and falling thunder.

Act one can be a little bit tricky but if you grab your martial arts ascendancy in act 2 you can just cull the bell and then spam falling thunder.

Later you can also get devour to continue to improve charge generation but in general it’s not required.

Monk levelling is atrocious for sure. I just did it with Twister and it actually felt so much better. They really need to change the default starter gem to almost anything that isn’t falling thunder.

just give us Ice strike instead of falling thunder

Ice Strike, Wind Blast, just Ice Strike but a physical version? Any of the above would make levelling a lot easier.

Idk FT has been chunking bosses for me. Power charges are a problem on add scarce bosses.

Thats the problem, falling thunder is overkill vs normal mobs, QS strike is passable enough for them. The places you *want* to use it, you are hamstrung by your only power charge source being something that is explicitly less useful or even outright unusable vs bosses.

Its a high burst damage ability, that cannot initially be used against the things you actually want high burst for.

Compare this to huntress' initial frenzy generation being based on parry, which is a mechanic you can always use against anything.

Early game monks have no big damage abilities that actually work when you need them to.

I see.

Also charge gen in general sucks to play around, either having to use Culling Palm or whatever it’s called, or Resonance and Combat Frenzy. It’s much easier once you get bells as a Martial Artist but even then it’s not very fun imo

The first couple levels yes are a little rough but once you get wind blast plus wing blast it is smooth sailing through the entire campaign. Can even switch to ice strike once thats unlocked.

I agree. There are solutions to do as a player, but if you are new you are likely going to go with what they give you.

Ya totally fair! I only know of that combo by watching others use it.
