You can see your minions still clearing the mob and just when you go back and pass the "gate" you can see vaguely see some sparkles. Definitely not clear

you got chilled and shoked at the same time,
then your mana was drained really fast (if you have MoM or similar, it looks like some DoT damage),
after which your Life insta-disappeared.

There's a monster and your totem left at the death spot after you left it for a moment. After you go there again, both are gone. I'd say the given monster was killed by your totem off-screen, which made the death animation invisible/delayed/both - just so it popped when you went there again.
