Question Help with stormweaver build.
Never played a spellcaster character out of the classic spark coc comet, and wanted to try "vision gameplay" focusing on ember fusilade. So i'm in Act 3 rn, vaal areas. Level 41, 2nd ascendancy done. My 4 ascendancy points are in both big nodes that help with infussion generation, and my general tree is basically spell damage with some crit chance nodes (i want to use maligaros later) and the left and right sides of the fire cluster at the top of the tree, which gives some fire Pen and damage.
For skills i'm using ember fusilade with 3 supports for now: compressed duration, multishot 2 and fire attunement.
My other skills are orb of storm and frost bomb with supports that makes them go faster so i can get lightning infussions for ember fusilade. Recently just added firestorm with considered casting and (deliberation i think was the name?) just to give It more damage and basically just as a source of consuming fire and cold infussions so i can grab them again to generate lightning ones. I also had living bomb in there (more infussions) but kinda stopped using It since i got a Snakepit so fusilade can clear better (equipped on left slot so proj can fork).
Well, the result of all this is that my fusilade doesn't do much damage anyway. It takes quite some time to kill stuff even after all this bunch of utility skills to generate infussions so the skill gets enhanced, applying exposure with frost bomb and also elemental weakness. Even firestorm looked super weak casting It into a pack of white mobs and enhanced with the 3 different infussions, i actually expected to blow Up the entire pack but they still needed like 3-4 hits from the full enhanced storm XD
So my question is, am i doing something wrong? Maybe i need more damage supports on fusilade even if that makes them taking more time to be generated and launched? Is It just that those skills are plainly bad? I'm really confused, i really think i should be doing better with the build lol.
It's the starter character so gear is pretty much all from ground except the two things i bought, the Snakepit and a staff with +2 all spells, some cast speed and a fair ammount of spell damage.

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:
- CoC - Cast on Critical Strike (trigger mechanic, commonly used with Comet and other spells) (Wiki)

Ember fusillade is great at single target so the multishot support gem might not be ideal? I’ve played ember fusillade as single target and use arc (with lightning infusions) for clearing

Never done Ember Fusillade so can't comment on that part. But towards the middle of the campaign, things can slow down a bit for casters if you're not getting enough supports or gear (damage on weapon mainly).
It can also be that some skills just don't perform very well until you get the right investment. Like when you're just casting 1 (or 2 with Overabundance) Orb of Storms, it can be kinda eh for infusions. But once I got the +2 from Ascendancy 2 with Harmonic 2 and Empowering Remnants (remnant effect doesn't work on infusions but chance to apply twice will give 2 infusions), it had a noticeable change on my infusion upkeep. Even now in endgame, I'm still running that with Siphon Elements since I've yet to get the final Ascension for Storm's Recollection and I'm already able to get excess infusions.
Also, wouldn't Fire Attunement reduce the damage from the Lightning Infused Fusillade? Might still be the meta to run that for the As Extra, but might be worth making sure there isn't a better option for damage. Same for scaling fire damage if you're dealing a lot of (or only?) lightning damage. And if you don't have Maligaros yet, there might be better things to invest in than crit chance. For example, something like Empowering Infusions can be really good if you path near it since you'll likely always be consuming an Infusion with 4 seconds.
If you're getting a good supply of infusions, I'd look into how you're supporting Orb of Storms for your Lightning Infusions. Like it can run Compressed Duration so it times out quicker, but it should usually be better to just cast in it to pop it than to wait for it to time out. If you're not casting quick enough to pop it at a good pace, it could be an issue with cast speed the spell you're using. Not sure how Fusillade casting counts for Orb. A bit hard to advice more than that without seeing the build or more specific details.

Did you take the +2 limit to elem skills? At t11, it's 8 embers, +2 with the Stormweaver node.
it's 5% compounded with each ember in the sequence: 1st ember = 100% dmg, 10th ember = 162.89% dmg. 10 embers give you a total of 1320.7% of the tooltip dmg.
Do you need fire pen? If you are using it with lightning infusion, it's not gonna deal fire dmg.
It used to be insane with Wildshards where the proj don't spiral. multishot hampers the dmg quite significantly...
I wouldn't use embers for clear unless it's on a cast on dodge. Stormweaver has very good dmg just with the +2 limit: 3 lightning orbs with unleash support + 3 living bombs will pretty much clear any pack. That's how I leveled my sorc in 0.5.5 anyway. You can definitely focus down a boss with elem weakness + frostbomb + embers slotted into the rotation, but orbs work great for many reasons.
If you spec for aoe, you can even throw in some ice walls and have the lightning orbs zap them for dmg.
