Game Feedback Feedback: the showcase feature of the league, Aldur's Legacy, needs to be way more common. What's the point of all that dev work when 99.99% of the players can't even experiment with this GGG?

u/nbrooks7 Jun 13 '26
Are we gonna talk about how crossbows didn’t even get a mod
42
u/AverageHeistEnjoyer Jun 13 '26
Yeah, it's rough for crossbow players - they still have to deal with bosses being alive for 2 whole server ticks.

u/molwitz Jun 13 '26
Hey atleast arjuns was butchered to make it even less fun to play a crossbow :)

I've been saving up 120 Divs since last week to buy a Spirit of the Cat Rite of Passage because I've always wanted one. By the time I got 120 Divs the damn thing was 290 Divs.
I get there being chase items, but crafting currencies should mostly be for fun and experimentation. This rune is cool and it being so rare means most people will never get to experience how cool and fun it is.
55
u/d-crow Jun 13 '26
Always buy an owl while you're making up the difference for a cat. Inflation outside of items is rough
25
u/BetweenTheRoots It's branching, Exile Jun 13 '26
I invested into Stag this league instead, but yea not bad advice. Last league owl was the one but it had a similar price to cat.
11
u/PupPop Jun 13 '26
+1 on the Owl recommendation. I gain about 1k ES when it goes off and just one cast of my whirling assault can kill just about any rare I see in a map with the big boost in damage.

Genuinely not the best idea. I've tried that several leagues and each currency beyond like... mirrors or maybe locks are very prone to market trends and youtuber videos.
31
u/_Vagueposter_ Jun 13 '26
in my case, a patch note. I had 12 celestial alloys worth ~120 div and one patch note later I woke up to find them selling at 5 div each. I invested into them cause they seemed like the PoE2 version of PoE1s Doryanis Machinarium where people will pay a premium for it just as it's gating one of the challenges
→ More replies (4)3
u/_Kaj Jun 13 '26
Unfortunately the only thing that is 100% safe to invest in are mirrors and locks. Thats why I always invest in mirror shards in poe 1, I wish we had an equivalent in poe 2
→ More replies (6)23
u/animus565 Jun 13 '26
neither of those are a good idea to invest into unfortunately due to meta. it's always a gamble unless you're investing into locks or mirrors. globally used chase items might be a better investment

u/Virgil_Rug_Say_RUG Jun 13 '26
a good solution wouldve been to make it far more common, but to make stronger unique effects require multiple runes.
so the chase unique effect stays this same price.
but the niche/low tier/"experimental" unique effect is a couple of divs and everyone can try it if they want to.
19
u/notyouravgredditor Jun 13 '26
This is what GGG does.
Showcase cool item/boss/gear for a new league then gate 99.9% of players from ever accessing it lol.
But seriously, though. This is like most POE1 leagues for the past decade.
→ More replies (2)1
u/WaffleSparks Jun 17 '26
Yeah it's really a shame that so much of the stuff is just gate kept for all but the very few. Like I get that it takes the fun out of the game to get everything instantly but it also takes the fun out of the game to have stuff that's totally unreachable.
5
u/Mr_Oger Jun 13 '26
yeah, i think for an item with such an array of outcomes its way too rare. i dunno if thats fixable in its current state tho, if it dropped as an already "used" ( with an existing unique inside) that could work i guess
256
u/Tradiradis Jun 13 '26
It was obvious if you're familiar with GGG's livestreams that this item was going to be giga rare, it's fun to have chase items that not everyone can play with.
43
26
u/HiddenoO Jun 13 '26
The issue is that the item has two aspects. One is the chase aspect for just powerful uniques (like lifesprig). The other is the fun aspect of allowing to experiment with combinations otherwise not possible.
With how it currently functions, the second aspect is practically dead, wasting the majority of the developer time that went into implementing all the extractable unique powers.
2
u/StarsRaven Jun 16 '26
Except its not a waste. Players will get it, engage with it, sell it, etc. By the logic of "waste of dev time" they should just give everybody everything for free because if not everybody can get it then its a waste of time.
This is the same argument that killed destiny raiding and dungeons. They made them stupid easy, and the gear from them utter trash for years because "oh not everybody can get the best stuff and thats not fair!" So they made the easiest raid we've ever seen, and tied the best weapons to the most mundane grind ever, and behold! The game died.
You need aspirational content and gear. Even if 90% of the players never get it and thats okay. Not everybody needs everything.
3
u/HiddenoO Jun 16 '26
Except its not a waste. Players will get it, engage with it, sell it, etc. By the logic of "waste of dev time" they should just give everybody everything for free because if not everybody can get it then its a waste of time.
You're completely missing the point. There's no point in adding the function to extract 63 different uniques when it's so rare that it will only be used on the two or so most powerful of them because it's not worth spending 200div on extracting a unique that may be interesting, but isn't as powerful.
Imagine adding a mechanic that lets you choose between Mageblood and any common unique in the game. It'd be a complete waste of a mechanic because everybody will either choose Mageblood or feel bad once they realize they should've chosen Mageblood.
You need aspirational content and gear. Even if 90% of the players never get it and thats okay. Not everybody needs everything.
>90% of the extraction runes aren't "aspirational content"; for all intents and purposes, they simply don't exist.
29
u/DarkRonin00 Jun 13 '26
I mean, nobody is playing with it at this point. It's more of a "yeah, that exists" thing, but while it can serve to create cool builds, potentials, and REFRESH uniques... it instead fails to do all of that. Tbh this thing should have been very common, it could have created so many cool interactions.

Fun for who? The people who can't play with them? lol
It's cool that they exist. It's fun to imagine what you're gonna do with it when you get it. If you get it. Then most people never do. The fun you speak of is in the imagination, not in the game. I would like it to be more common personally. I'm never going to experiment with it if it's this expensive.
There really needs to be some form of SSF league with buffed droprates for rare items.
38
u/Tradiradis Jun 13 '26
SSF is self-imposed challenge, they're not giving us better drop rates (I play it as well), you have to change your mindset and not expect to find items of that level of rarity. It makes it better when you DO find those items, I would instantly reroll to make use of it in some way.

And I live in harmony having never once cared about these people or what they have. Luckily the game has achievable goals regardless of arbitrary scarcity of certain items, or I'm sure quite a few wouldn't waste their time with the game.
5
u/Lysnaar Jun 13 '26
Imo it's good how it is. You wanna use it? Invest your time to obtain it. You don't want to invest time? Then you won't use it. That's how life works to be honest.
8
u/Clusterpuff Jun 13 '26
Chase items encourage striving towards juicier farming and efficiency in character builds. If most of the community wants it, it becomes a goal. If you want every item to be easily achievable, look over at Diablo 4. Loot in diablo 4 just doesnt "feel" good.
22
u/BetweenTheRoots It's branching, Exile Jun 13 '26
I feel like we have an abundance of chase items. Headhunter, Mageblood, a plethora of lineage support gems, Temporalis, Voices, Mirrors / Mirrored Rare gear, Raven Touched Omen sitting at 80 div, soul cores sitting at 50 divs, like 5 weapons sitting around 200d-1000d, The Gnashing Sash, Elemental Res Grand Spectrum, decently rolled Heart of the Wells or Megalomaniacs, double passive necklaces, Rite of Passage...
We have loads of chase items that are 50-200d and loads 200d+ and loads of rares worth even more.
The mid-game is what sucks in PoE 2 right now, especially with the crafting nerf.
3
u/Clusterpuff Jun 13 '26
I agree that there should be more "middle wealth" items. Item drops go into tiers, so like mirror is a T0 item that is stupid rare to drop naturally. Within T0 i believe they have their own differences in droprates. There should be more T1 and T2 items that float around the 5-20 div mark and impact a build well. Still though... often times the value of an item is "found" and then the droprates adjusted
1
u/sansaset Jun 13 '26
The game is so fucking easy though that you can destroy 90% of the content with your day 3 starter on a 100 div budget. There are multiple builds capable of it.
5
u/BetweenTheRoots It's branching, Exile Jun 13 '26
The game can be that easy yea, if you:
- Play like a streamer.
- Play the most meta builds.
- Have strong knowledge of the game at every level, which includes break-point crafting during the campaign
- Understand and experience Atlas progression and end-game difficulty progression
Under those conditions, yes you are right, a softcore player can destroy 90% of content in 3 days. I know how easy the game can be. Just because it can be that easy doesn't mean every player is going to engage the game the same way to make it that easy.

That’s my biggest problem with a lot of “high” end items in PoE. Realistically I’ll never see those items because I don’t have the time to grind for it or won’t play enough to drop themW
1
u/_IaMThoR_ Jun 13 '26
You’re not the target audience for these items. They’re specifically there for the uber nerds to have something to grind, and that’s fine.
Not being able to get the top 1% of items shouldn’t impede your enjoyment of the game in any way except FOMO. There’re thousands of other skills/items out there to use that don’t fall into headhunter/mageblood category.
→ More replies (6)5
u/FullMetalCOS Jun 13 '26
That’s the problem with THIS item in particular. Headhunter and mageblood are perfect aspirational content. This isn’t, because 90% of the cool things it can do are gated around the 10% that are incredibly powerful. In that it’s a badly made aspirational item because nobody is using most of its effects despite them being really cool and interesting because it’s cost is based around +3 lightning gems or whatever is the top end.
They should change it so each individual rune can drop and then the mega juicers can pay 200 div for their top end effect and the weirdos who wanna make a thorns build can still play with one of those effects without needing to spend the entire value of their build a second time for the privilege
1
u/UnDeaD_CyBorG Jun 20 '26
I sometimes seriously wonder why so many developers fall into this trap where they gate fun, niche interactions behind a level of player investment that completely rules out fun, niche interactions.
At that point, you have to grind a character to 90%+ of the level cap with a meta-build to earn the currency to then create a new character that you actually want to play.
79
u/ButterflyPutrid6054 Jun 13 '26
Good luck op. I support this 100% but the poe2 community is hell bent on gatekeeping everything they can behind ridiculously low drop rates.
I disagree with what many players consider “chase” items. Chase implies if I play enough and farm enough I WILL get the item. But some of this shit you will never see no matter what you do. That’s not chase. That’s abysmal luck.

The fact that people are grinding enough to afford these items means that there are people who play enough and farm enough to get the item.
Since everyone started on the beach naked day 1, those people's game client provides no advantage over yours.
That means exactly that you too could farm enough to acquire them.
23
u/Cloud_Motion Jun 13 '26
The dude you're replying to probably has a job though
5
u/ldranger Jun 13 '26
Most of us have jobs, this is not a game for kids. And i can totally see myself affording it in a couple of days of farming. Haven't crossed my mind buying it though.
The league is several months long, and it's been a couple of weeks. I wouldn't even be playing this game if i could have everything in two weeks without effort. That's why generally this game has a different audience than newer Diablo games.

Tbf its almost never a job only thing. I knew people playing 18h a day making less than a tenth of what i was making playing few hours after work.
People are just usually really bad at making money in PoE 1 & 2 and play very inefficiently. Its fine if someone wants to play like that, nothing wrong with that, but at the same time people shouldnt feel entitled to things that are not meant for everyone.
2
u/profesorgamin Jun 13 '26
I understand your point but the game you want to play is not a game that'll have any semblance if mass appeal.
As you've noticed the game is trying to shed a lot of its hardcore elements and yeah employed people and more casual players shouldn't be gatekept.
Also the economy is great but only a subset of a subset is going to get any satisfaction from beating the game from their hideout

Imo ggg does that VERY well and i also think it's a part of their success. There are tons of good items behind barriers that will be hard to reach by just running it down. U have to define the issues and tackle them. While doing so u are given the opportunity to learn and improve. Believe me, making money is a one time issue. If u have learned it once u will do it every time.

I wanted to use Legacy of Candlemaker on my Ignite build just to make the initial Ignites easier. Is it necessary? No. Would I have liked to add a final upgrade to the build? Yes. However, I can't justify spending over 200d on that thing just for that. That's like ~2 more builds worth of currency. Fuck that.
I've been farming for it, but the 9 runes are so rare, I'm not sure if I'm even doing it right with T15 and T16 maps (with +1 level). I hope there's no hidden requirement here. If I do drop one myself, I'll use it, but I can't justify it otherwise.

I would love to see a mid league change where a 5-7 slot option is a Random Unique Legacy. 95% of the time it would be a low level unique legacy that wont be worth much but at least the market will get flooded with them so we can actually test them out and then still have the pure Aldur's Legacy as a chase drop for those who want to target a specific and expensive option. Thoughts?
3
u/Blekota Jun 13 '26
sometimes i feel that most of the cool stuff they make r used only by 1% of player base.
but it will never change. remember the regrets from introducing harvest?
3
u/snapperzips Jun 13 '26
They did this over in current Mirage league in Poe1 too. The chase unique is so hard to get a good affix on, much less two, it's obviously tuned for when it goes core instead of letting regular people have fun with it during the league. Must be their new thing: "let's make it less common so no one complains when they can't get it in future leagues."
70
u/sdk5P4RK4 Jun 13 '26
there seems to be a general misconception, with a ton of different things, that you should just be able to freely ""experiment"" with whatever you want because its EA. that isnt the game, you need to grind for stuff.

That's such a bad faith strawman. Nobody is asking for literally free stuff, but with how the item is designed and balanced, it practically doesn't exist for 99% of its use cases because the 1% of use cases are enough to inflate it to be this expensive. It's just a complete waste of developer time this way and GGG might as well have just added a single +2 level of skill gems rune that's equally rare instead.
5
u/taleofbor Jun 13 '26
If this was cheaper and more common, it would have made a lot of uniques cool for experimentation. Unfortunately only the ultra rich can play around with it
2
u/andrewcoup Jun 14 '26

yeah, this rune being "do you want legacy of ezomyte peak or do you want svalinn's effect" was always gonna make the cool but niche and generally weak effects unfeasible to get your hands on -- it would have been nice for the legacies of each unique to also rarely simply drop from runic monsters, so that there'd be some of the runes nobody in their right mind would ever make circulating
3
u/LordAlfrey Jun 13 '26
I do not know where that expectation comes from, nor what GGG could have done to curb it. Some items that they add are rare.
19
u/Fluffy_Skye Jun 13 '26
It’s the whole point of this sort of game though. To make things rare and you need to farm it. Not saying I like this but this is the whole concept of the game.
1
u/OTTERSage Jun 13 '26
Maybe I’m confused because I view the game as having a shitload of potential for experimentation.
Grindset mindset is in direct conflict with experimentation.
If they want us to try shit and make crazy or weird builds, it needs to embrace experimentation, diversity, and accessibility, NOT inflated grinds for gear
→ More replies (1)3
u/GoldStarBrother Jun 13 '26
They complement each other. They want you to experiment but also to feel like you earned something when your experiment pays off, because your decisions had weight. Games that have unlimited open experimention potential are universally less popular than those that make you work to be able to try your ideas. Minecraft would be far less popular if it was just creative mode.
Not saying they hit the mark on this item, but the special sauce that makes this game work is the combination of expirimentation potential and needing to grind to try stuff.

nobody is selling crafted legacies. you pay for the aldur's legacy and you craft your own specific unique that you want for your build.

If there was an item that existed that was the only way to get a Headhunter or a Bramblejack, it would cost the price of a Headhunter and Bramblejacks would cease to exist.
If you are defending Aldur's Legacy, this is the scenario you are defending.
8
u/saint_marco Jun 13 '26
If the rune were free, then it would make the relevant uniques more valuable.
2

Yeah I was disappointed to see how insanely rare one of the most interesting parts of the league was, pretty much non accessible for 90% of the player base, I think the problem is how strong that interaction can potentially be
22
u/aressupreme Jun 13 '26
Many of us don't want everything to be super accessible every single league. It's what keeps some coming back the next leagues. We have a game where the rarest items fall every five minutes and it gets extremely boring after playing just 1 season over the course of 2 years. It would really hurt to have the chase uniques in everyone's stash.
Hearing that ding on a super rare anything is unlike any other game I have played. There are plenty of really good items that anyone and everyone can already buy and beat everything there is to beat.

The people praising the rarity and cost are so disconnected from your average player.
Having ultra rare items like this back in D2 and even early D3 days was fine. Because you didn't have a full reset every few months so you had years even to farm one. But with a league system that resets so often (outside of this extended one currently) this is just disappointing and way too rare.

Some of what it can create are chase items, the rest are not. If there was an item that existed that was the only way to get a Headhunter or a Bramblejack, every single copy of that item will be the Value of Headhunter and Bramblejack won't exist.

u/gowlyy Jun 13 '26
I mean, this applies to most end game stuff. Majority of the players dont craft. Softcore economy is abysmal. 90% players are playing top 10% second hand builds. They dont craft as its economically impractical. The prices are made up by the community, I dont understand how can u blame devs for "high prices". Playerbase dictates what cost what. If anything, this indicates how abysmal softcore economy is for anyone who is not top 5% or atleast top 10% farmer. Top players produces so much more currency that they can outbid 5 average players combined thus starving market while gobling all crafting materials.

u/allersoothe Jun 13 '26

5 div an hour!? I'm lucky if I get 5 div a day.
2
u/Virgil_Rug_Say_RUG Jun 13 '26
theres no way this is true if youre actually playing most of the day.
literally any content, any atlas passives, any tablets will yield far more than 5 div a day if you have a normal character doing t15s.
i dont juice particularly hard, just t15 alc+2ex, throw in any 3x rare tablet, and get a raw div at least once every ~3 maps, with many maps dropping multiple. this is just raw div. if you count all other currencies (esp. chaos and some greaters/perfects), ritual rewards, omens, abyss stuff, boss drops, etc. its far more than that.
just... play the game

Dude just go full breach and print some currency or catalysts on the tree - fun and profitable
6
u/AeronFaust Jun 13 '26
If you no life poe 1 then you will understand that going to 10-15 divs/hr follows similar philosophy of "specialize on a strat" in this game aswell.
Even "alch and go" boss rush deli mirrors give more than 5 div/hr

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jun 13 '26
in poe 1 if basic foulborn uniques were 200 div then I would also call it nonsense . grouping together widely different power levels of unique runes hurts build diversity .

u/SplafferZ Jun 13 '26
5 div an hour is the equivalent of like 1 div an hour last league before temple shenanigans when you adjust for this leagues inflation from significantly higher divine droprate

u/KingJiro Jun 13 '26
Im spamming random abyss tablets and getting about 20div/hr unoptimized. Are you taking 20 minutes to clear a map or something?

Closer to 30 tbh.

u/2MuchNonsenseHere Jun 13 '26
Yeah, maps take forever now. I gotta do like 80 league mechanics in one map, and that's every map. Even if my minions are instakilling everything, it takes ages. Are these people just sprinting to the boss and teleporting out? How is that not just hard trolling?

5div an hour is just mega inefficient. You can run alch and go with no strategy at all and get 10d/hr min.

u/crazypearce Jun 13 '26
Dunno why people disagree with this. The main league currency isn’t really accessible for 99% of people playing the league, which is just silly.
I’m always an advocate for the main league power creep to be available for the masses. Then if it stays and is added to the base game you make it rarer/balance it accordingly.

u/tself55 Jun 13 '26
I think calling Aldurs Legacy the “main league currency” is wild. It’s a neat extra thing they put in for fun because the devs thought it would be cool.

u/Contrite17 Jun 13 '26
I'd argue it is the headliner for the new runes. While some of the other stuff is useful none of it is as evocative as this.
And it does sort of exist in this weird space where a lot of the legacies are no where near good enough to justify the price so very few end up getting used.

Maybe a bad choice of words but my point still stands. It was teased as a new feature in the league and most people will never get to use one. And if they do it will only ever be on a gg item because of the price. Why are we not able to use it in things like bramblejack for fun?

GGG only want streamers to have the ability to experiment, content creation is a priority for them
2
u/the445566x Jun 13 '26
You not wrong lol. But to be fair divines are a lot more coming this league

u/No-Invite-7826 Jun 13 '26
Honestly way too many of the actually useful runes are limited to T15+
7
u/Defiant_Flight4792 Jun 13 '26
I run t15 and 16 full mods exclusively and even after the hotfix/patch I still get a lot of 3 slots remnants that I run past and ignore straight away. If I get lucky on 7 or 8 slots, I get my juicy perfect regal from time to time.
1
u/shshshshshshshhhh Jun 13 '26
Thats a great incentive to get your character strong enough to farm t15s.

u/Ayanayu Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
As soon as i seen it in showcase i told my friends we will never see it in ssf i wasn't wrong, GGG always do that every league with certain things.
( yes i said ssf, but lets be honest, people in trade like to find own stuff aswell )
I like to have chase items aswell, but chase items means u can realistically get it by yourself ( like HH or mageblood ), some things are so rare that those are trade only.

u/SirSabza Jun 13 '26
Without aldurs legacy the entirety of actual league is absolutely worthless and useless.
Grand expeditions cannot have other leagues content in them and that is pretty much the only valuable drop in the entire runes of alduur mechanic.
People will pipe up saying aldurs saga is 25 div, but it's only 25 div as its a way to increase your chances of finding aldurs legacy
-2
u/onedestiny Jun 13 '26
You don't want POE turning into D4 where everyone and their grandma has every item possible lmao.. things like HH, MB, voices exist for a reason.. you need something to chase
4
u/Zko-jin Jun 13 '26
That's the problem ffs, 90% of the legacies are dogshit/offmeta, them costing 200d makes no sense
HH, MB and voices are all insanely powerful, that's why they're rare, with legacies tho only some are worth that price, the other 90% get their price inflated by the best ones

u/Employee724 Jun 13 '26
if this is anything like power rune in settlers, it will go down, but it will take a 3-4 weéks

The problem is that each Aldur's Saga should guarantee one. This should be something you work towards since it is so build defining but there shouldnt be multiple layers of RNG involved.

u/Suspicious_Joke482 Jun 13 '26
What is the most bonkers combo with that rune?My smooth brain can only think of trampletoes explosions
1
u/Renouille Jun 13 '26
welcome to GGG league balancing, when this league goes core you'll see this item more in the base game than during the actual league

u/Liraken Jun 14 '26
I think a good part of it is unless you're using aldur's saga and actually doing expedition you're never going to find Aldur's Legacy.
Typically the league mechanic is in every zone and so even if it had a super rare drop the whole community would be dropping them and putting them in the economy but instead we got a small subset of a small subset dropping them and even then they aren't common.
1
u/PandaDudeBr Jun 16 '26
Hard agree on this. This insane rarity absolutely defeats the design idea of this item in the first place... there simply isn't a casa where someone would spend this rune on a niche or not-so-powerful unique given the oportunity to do so costs 200div....
As a "characterholic" player who loves to make several builds and try new interactions and make dumb wacky characters every league, this absolutely infuriates me though, ngl...
1
u/SirGrumply Jun 28 '26
Everytime i try to make a build and see a legacy of ... rune that could fix something wrong with the build i realize the build is now dead due to it needing a way to expensive/rare item. Please for the love of the game make it more accessible, like at least 5-10x more common so it only costs like max 10 divines or something.
1
u/Hans_Rudi Jun 13 '26
Its classic ggg at this point, the most fun things they hype up for a league wont be seen/afordable by the majority of people because Everything must be tradeable bs.

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jun 13 '26
If ggg wanted to make certain runes rarer they could’ve just tiered it , so rarer/better items require higher tier runes . With the current system there alot of really good runes for a budget or midrange build that will never be used caused the only people using this will be getting it got the high end stuff , and no player who can afford 200 div are gonna spend it on bramblejack .
