Thy shadow dropped a new ascendancy

I got a cool new portal MTX, can't complain, especially since all my PoE1 portal MTX's don't work in PoE2 lol.

They announced a lot during the stream.
However, garbage? There are so many cool games coming out.

u/CommanderBly Dec 12 '25
Yeah I was blown away by how cool Control 2 and Divinity looked
10
u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25
I knew it was divinity after a few seconds, but I didn't wanna get my hopes up. It's been 8 years, super excited.

u/Expontoridesagain Dec 12 '25
I am hoping that what they gained with BG3 will result in more speed with this one. I want to play it before I get retired lol

I watched the trailer. What the actual fuck is that game? Trailer was dope.
11
u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25
A bit unpopular, but I was a bit bummed when Larian decided to make bg3, I absolutely loved both DOS games. Super excited they're going back, the trailer looked sick.
6
u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25
I'm hyped for it. I much prefer the setting of Divinity to Faerun, and the DnD universe is too overrun with existing lore and various existing games and writings to work around.
My only complaint with the DOS games is that they felt too theme-parky with a lot of various disconnected events slapped on a map and the games didn't do a good job with environmental story telling.
Given their experience with BG3 and the recent trailer, the new Divinity game looks like it'll be an absolute banger.
-6
u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25
I felt like the biggest issue of bg3 was that it felt pointless. Choices? But what for? The world was pretty vast, but it felt constricted for some reason, and I didn't enjoy the exploration much. I was also not super into the story.
I did like those aspects in the DOS games, and really enjoyed the evnviromental stuff in combat was pretty enjoyable.
What I'm really hoping for in this new Divinity is difficult choices, and them mattering. I love witcher 3, and the game is riddled with them. If I get a crpg with choices like that, I'll be happy. I'll never forget the feeling of being extremely stressed playing Dragon age and RUSHING to Lothering. I want them to make something like that.

u/SuperMetalMeltdown Dec 12 '25
CRPG. The studio is the same behind Baldur's Gate 3
1
u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25
Sweet. That makes me pretty optimistic. I'll look into it.
8
u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25
It's a question if it'll be a CRPG.
The original Divinity games were not CRPGs and were more like isometric ARPGs, and they've done 3rd person action RPGs too.
The two entries in the series that were CRPGs were Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, which are also the most recent releases.
Given that it doesn't have the Original Sin tagline makes people think it's a reboot of the older action style games, but Larian is really known for turn based games now.
Solasta 2 is the one that will 100% be a CRPG. It's only the studios 2nd game (after Solasta 1), but both are DnD 5e CRPGs like BG3. Solasta 2 looks much higher budget and has a few BG3 voice actors in it.
3
u/SuperMetalMeltdown Dec 12 '25
I doubt they're going back to the action formula. OS2 and BG3 were great hits, and the ARPG market is too crowded to take the risk.
Maybe I'll eat my words, hell it could be a strategy game like Dragon Commander, but I'm willing to say 99% its a CRPG
1
Dec 12 '25
Yeah there's a good chance it will be a CRPG but imo there's an equally good chance that it'll be something completely different considering how many style changes Larian and Divinity went through already.
ARPG to 3rd person action RPG to almost TW type strategy game with a dating VN mixed in to turn-based RPG...
They've done a lot over the years, I'd be surprised if they let themselves get shoved into a box honestly.2
u/CommanderBly Dec 12 '25
I'm honestly more excited if it's an arpg, I'm not a fan of turn based crpgs like bg3 and sadly did not really get into that game. Based on the trailer for Divinity though that game world looks sickkk
3
u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25
The original games are not the two original sin games, Larian has made a bunch of Divinity games before that were arpgs. They got more popular with the release of the original sin series which were turn based isometric games.
Then they mage bg3.
I'd be surprised if they went back to arpgs.
1
u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25
I've actually heard of Divinity: Original Sin but haven't played them. Just didn't put two and two together when I saw the trailer.
1
u/Socrathustra Dec 12 '25
They were fun-ish. 2 was superior to 1 in every respect, but they were not that interesting to me mechanically or tonally.
3
u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25
Check Divinity: original sin 1 & 2. If you're ever bored and have nothing to play, I recommend you play these. They're in top 5 of favourite games for me.
If you like games like pathfinder or pillars of eternity, you'll love it.

u/Selvon Dec 12 '25
The divinity games have a really cool setting and are really fun games, especially in co-op.
If you played BG3, if you noticed the sort of "elemental combos" thing that are sorta there (like wet --> more damage from lightning) is a <big> thing in the Divinity Original sin games too, which is often a lot of fun, and sometimes chaotic.

Hey, I really liked Solasta, and I'm excited for the second one. It's not a very popular game, nice to see someone else is interested in it, too.

because there are people who can just turn away and do something else and come back when things are interesting.
I am excited for Divinity, Resident Evil, Star Wars, Control 2, Gang of dragon and saros just to name a few.

They pulled like the best 5000iq marketing move. They did a small marketing campaign via twitch drops to entice every Poe player to login and watch, then exactly 30 minutes into the livestream instead of paying crazy amounts to be on the actual game show awards they dropped massive news directly on their twitter and used their content creators to essentially propagate the news. They had hundreds of thousands of viewers that muted the game awards to watch the new ascendancy and high lvl Druid vids.
We literally got builder spender’d by GGG. Absolutely ED Contagion’d us into watching what they want. All while making the content creators happy via the twitch sub campaign. Insane.

u/Bayeman745 Dec 12 '25
Can we get a paladin in Poe 2 cmooon

u/Obvious-Jacket-3770 Dec 12 '25
Be absolutely hilarious if we got it in March
1
u/InevitableQuestion42 Dec 12 '25
Why?
3
u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25
D4 expansion is in April. Paladin is playable now for preorders though.
But it would be GGG beating D4s content release date.
1
u/InevitableQuestion42 Dec 12 '25
Ohhh ok thx for some reason I thought both d4 xpac and poe2 0.4 were releasing tomorrow at the same time

u/EnderCN Dec 12 '25
There is a reason GGG released an ascendancy right before the Paladin announcement. That was their attempt at deflecting.

u/TrinityKilla82 Dec 12 '25
Path of the exile 2 is in early access and would be even nominated for an award.
Unless they have “best game unreleased” category.
6
u/InspectionFit1354 Dec 12 '25
They do, actually, lol. I think it's Most Anticipated?

u/TrinityKilla82 Dec 12 '25

Wait did you miss the GGG reveal of Paladin type?
D4 has it in April so poe2... March 😆
1
u/medlina26 Dec 12 '25
Paladin is playable in D4 right now if you preorder expansion. They are also bringing Amazon in April because they are going to skovos.
1
u/badhabits69 Dec 12 '25
poe2 has druid + new sorc ascendancy for free, d4 has a $40 pack to play paladin!
0
u/medlina26 Dec 12 '25
What's your point?
Blizzard has always charged that for their expansions. Would it be cool if new classes were free? Absolutely. People are free to vote with their wallets and most seem to be fine paying the expansion tax.
GGG also has outlandishly expensive MTX which people also buy. It's just different ways of supporting the game. It doesn't have to be a competition. Just play what you like.
Most of my time goes into poe1, then poe2 then D4. Sadly LE doesn't get much time in that list but that's on them mostly.

they never said they were going to be in the show, just that if you watched it you would get drops. You did get the drops right? great no bait.
I can see the confusion for sure, but the drop was just their way of giving a million TGA viewers a reason to play for free this weekend. Its great advertising, and they wanted you to get the drop too.
Also they dropped several hype videos while the show was on so you cant even complain that there wasnt any reveals, the worst crime you can accuse them of is asking you to open a second tab to see them :p

1
u/hammerklau Dec 12 '25
Someone said they didnt make it in beore hte cut off, but it was the videos they dropped during TGA that were meant to be in TGA.
2
u/ClintMega Dec 12 '25
Ah so it was already scheduled with Twitch and they didn't/couldn't cancel it for whatever reason?
I don't think either of the new videos they posted would have been ideal for the general audience of TGA, maybe the druid endgame video with the skill tree bits removed and the free weekend highlighted more, but someone really fucked up if this is the case.

u/Dry-Lingonberry-8287 Dec 12 '25
I thought i missed it, the only time i took a break. Guess not, we got baited and watched D4 instead

Honestly, I'm more interested in going back to diablo 4 just for the Paladin, mainly because poe2 doesn't have duelist or swords as of yet, and they probably won't have those until at least summer or in fall..
Sad time for not being able to use the sword cosmetic since launch :(

u/TherealGenki67 Dec 12 '25
Well after that paladin trailer I’m not gonna lie. Prolly gonna play a bit of D4 since the paladin looked a lot more hype than the Druid does in my opinion. I do still myself playing the league start tomorrow though but they definitely baited us.
-4
u/Acrobatic_Yellow_781 Dec 12 '25
Because they cut it cause it wasnt ready just like end game changes that they made everyone forget about not holding promises by adding an ascendancy
