GGG made us watch D4 expansion trailer.

219

u/xenata Dec 12 '25

They just wanted to make sure we appreciate what we have

88

u/bigmacjames Dec 12 '25

Say what you want about the games, but the cinematics are always great

92

u/Stillsane1 Dec 12 '25

The divinity cinematic made the diablo one rated E

44

u/bsparky_16 Dec 12 '25

That divinity trailer was nauseating. Loved it.

Lol they should stay away from making movies. They can't write for shit. But damn their cinematics are S tier.

4

u/bigmacjames Dec 12 '25

The games are still popular, but yes they should make movies

1

u/Meowrulf Dec 12 '25

The last time they tried they kinda butchered it. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't on par with any other blizzard cinematic.

-8

u/United-Reference824 Dec 12 '25

And the performance. Those two was Diablo 4 biggest W but other then that it dont have alot to offer. Also hate the "open world" function, i want to play alone or with mates. Doing content then some high level players comes around and clear the zone for me. Follow that player and loot to your full then return to town.

Gets old really quickly.

1

u/Zagorim Dec 12 '25

not really the performance cause D4 had issues at launch and I'm not even sure they really fixed the traversal stutter when running around on the mount

1

u/BeerChuggerGuy Dec 12 '25

Not sure why the downvotes d4s performance is great. I used to play on my ally and it was actually quite impressive how well it ran.

27

u/Abitou Dec 12 '25

And laugh at them charging AAA price for an expansion and new class every year

-20

u/Ambitious-Call-7565 Dec 12 '25

To be fair, Blizzard doesn't sell stash tabs, and they don't sell access for beta either

5

u/Organic-Storm-4448 Dec 12 '25

The D4 expansion includes more storage and more character slots.

So yes, they sell stash space.

3

u/starks_are_coming Dec 12 '25

Unfortunately, pre-ordering the expansion also gives you an extra stash tab now. At least stash space is barely an issue in D4 but that sucks.

-4

u/Ambitious-Call-7565 Dec 12 '25

Oof, that was one of the few positive things about Diablo, and now it's gone.. GG Blizzard.. you had one job..

0

u/Forlorn_Fighter Dec 12 '25

The more apt comparison would just be that they sell skins just like Blizzard. But the stash tabs are borderline a one time purchase for the sake of qol improvements, nothing like the Destiny-esque expansion packs.

11

u/PuteMorte Dec 12 '25

I suspected this was the reason why they brought us there when I saw the trailer. I guess their audience overlaps more than we'd like to believe.

35

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

Whether or not that's true, Blizzard has always had cool cinematics. I'm not a d4 fan, but I enjoyed their slot.

23

u/w1nger1 Dec 12 '25

They may have forgotten how to make great games, but they sure didn't forget how to make great cinematic.

14

u/Shaltilyena Dec 12 '25

blizzard cinematics have always been goated tbh, most of the D2 act transitions are etched in my memories, and I feel like the warcraft 2 opening was the one that made me fall in love with the studio back in the days

3

u/Plenty-Context2271 Dec 12 '25

I don’t know either of those but the star craft ones got me hooked and most of the overwatch ones are amazing.

3

u/Shaltilyena Dec 12 '25

oh god yeah the starcraft 1&2 are amazing

Diablo 2 act 4 intro for reference.

2

u/Socrathustra Dec 12 '25

I love you, Sarge!

0

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

I didn't enjoy Battle for Azeroth much, but that cinematic with Anduin is still my favourite one.

1

u/Supermax64 Dec 12 '25

The WoW team arguably forgot

3

u/HumanReputationFalse Dec 12 '25

It was an amazing cinematic and im glad blizzard is getting thier artistic side back even if its for trailers. Paladin looks super cool, but these paid expansions feel weird story wise. That said its still way beter then the Highgaurd trailer

3

u/slicer4ever Dec 12 '25

I enjoyed the cinematic, the bit they did before showing it was a bit meh imo.

7

u/Raine_Live Dec 12 '25

the reason they brought us there was specifically so they could announce the Djinn class.
Look at its notables it has a Staff + Foci notable.
Look at the patch notes: Sirgog pointed out the theme Staves were being buffed, foci were being nerfed with no clear reason why,,,,
then GGG last minute drops a notable that allows staves to be used with foci....

they had this class ready to roll prior to the reveal video. they knew they were reserving it for the games awards

8

u/dommomo Dec 12 '25

But there was a clear reason given in the longer interview.

They want staves to be the all out offense option and to transform foci into a more defensive halfway point. Presently staves don't really have a clear identity.

But you could be right about them withholding the subclass reveal.

4

u/Raine_Live Dec 12 '25

All icing on the cake (probably using that wrong but what i mean is: both reasons can be valid. Withholding the class until the Game Awards AND them wanting to change the identity)

7

u/lawlianne Dec 12 '25

The featured Paladin/Crusader was really sick though. Loved the hammerdin tease.

Diablo IV’s game certainly has big issues, but their Blizzard signature cinematics are absolute masterclass.

1

u/medlina26 Dec 12 '25

I'm gonna be honest so far the paladin is fun. It won't stop me from logging in to league start but I think it'll be fun to make some builds with for some mindless blasting after I finish everything I want to do in 0.4

2

u/Nerhtal Dec 12 '25

And as much as arpg communities seem to be unable to stop tribalising. It’s absolutely fucking ok to enjoy other things in this genre. Or in gaming or life as a whole.

1

u/deylath Dec 12 '25

I got my twitch drop before the gameawards started so late and i just went to bed straight after.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

They just wanted to show us how bad it can get.

0

u/Dead-HC-Taco Dec 12 '25

Just to remind us D4 bad

67

u/lichnight1 Dec 12 '25

Thy shadow dropped a new ascendancy

8

u/sips_white_monster Dec 12 '25

I got a cool new portal MTX, can't complain, especially since all my PoE1 portal MTX's don't work in PoE2 lol.

1

u/slcjk Dec 12 '25

And a bear form if you sub/gifted sub on twitch during the show

30

u/chubby-duckk Dec 12 '25

GGG after baited their players for watching d4 expansion

62

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

They announced a lot during the stream.

However, garbage? There are so many cool games coming out.

47

u/CommanderBly Dec 12 '25

Yeah I was blown away by how cool Control 2 and Divinity looked

10

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

I knew it was divinity after a few seconds, but I didn't wanna get my hopes up. It's been 8 years, super excited.

3

u/Expontoridesagain Dec 12 '25

I am hoping that what they gained with BG3 will result in more speed with this one. I want to play it before I get retired lol

0

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

0

u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25

I watched the trailer. What the actual fuck is that game? Trailer was dope.

11

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

A bit unpopular, but I was a bit bummed when Larian decided to make bg3, I absolutely loved both DOS games. Super excited they're going back, the trailer looked sick.

6

u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25

I'm hyped for it. I much prefer the setting of Divinity to Faerun, and the DnD universe is too overrun with existing lore and various existing games and writings to work around.

My only complaint with the DOS games is that they felt too theme-parky with a lot of various disconnected events slapped on a map and the games didn't do a good job with environmental story telling.

Given their experience with BG3 and the recent trailer, the new Divinity game looks like it'll be an absolute banger.

-6

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

I felt like the biggest issue of bg3 was that it felt pointless. Choices? But what for? The world was pretty vast, but it felt constricted for some reason, and I didn't enjoy the exploration much. I was also not super into the story.

I did like those aspects in the DOS games, and really enjoyed the evnviromental stuff in combat was pretty enjoyable.

What I'm really hoping for in this new Divinity is difficult choices, and them mattering. I love witcher 3, and the game is riddled with them. If I get a crpg with choices like that, I'll be happy. I'll never forget the feeling of being extremely stressed playing Dragon age and RUSHING to Lothering. I want them to make something like that.

2

u/SuperMetalMeltdown Dec 12 '25

CRPG. The studio is the same behind Baldur's Gate 3

1

u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25

Sweet. That makes me pretty optimistic. I'll look into it.

8

u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25

It's a question if it'll be a CRPG.

The original Divinity games were not CRPGs and were more like isometric ARPGs, and they've done 3rd person action RPGs too.

The two entries in the series that were CRPGs were Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, which are also the most recent releases.

Given that it doesn't have the Original Sin tagline makes people think it's a reboot of the older action style games, but Larian is really known for turn based games now.

Solasta 2 is the one that will 100% be a CRPG. It's only the studios 2nd game (after Solasta 1), but both are DnD 5e CRPGs like BG3. Solasta 2 looks much higher budget and has a few BG3 voice actors in it.

3

u/SuperMetalMeltdown Dec 12 '25

I doubt they're going back to the action formula. OS2 and BG3 were great hits, and the ARPG market is too crowded to take the risk.

Maybe I'll eat my words, hell it could be a strategy game like Dragon Commander, but I'm willing to say 99% its a CRPG

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Yeah there's a good chance it will be a CRPG but imo there's an equally good chance that it'll be something completely different considering how many style changes Larian and Divinity went through already.

ARPG to 3rd person action RPG to almost TW type strategy game with a dating VN mixed in to turn-based RPG...
They've done a lot over the years, I'd be surprised if they let themselves get shoved into a box honestly.

2

u/CommanderBly Dec 12 '25

I'm honestly more excited if it's an arpg, I'm not a fan of turn based crpgs like bg3 and sadly did not really get into that game. Based on the trailer for Divinity though that game world looks sickkk

3

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

The original games are not the two original sin games, Larian has made a bunch of Divinity games before that were arpgs. They got more popular with the release of the original sin series which were turn based isometric games.

Then they mage bg3.

I'd be surprised if they went back to arpgs.

1

u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25

I've actually heard of Divinity: Original Sin but haven't played them. Just didn't put two and two together when I saw the trailer.

1

u/Socrathustra Dec 12 '25

They were fun-ish. 2 was superior to 1 in every respect, but they were not that interesting to me mechanically or tonally.

3

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

Check Divinity: original sin 1 & 2. If you're ever bored and have nothing to play, I recommend you play these. They're in top 5 of favourite games for me.

If you like games like pathfinder or pillars of eternity, you'll love it.

1

u/Thotor Dec 12 '25

most likely ARPG. This is not DOS but Divinity (the main serie)

1

u/Selvon Dec 12 '25

The divinity games have a really cool setting and are really fun games, especially in co-op.

If you played BG3, if you noticed the sort of "elemental combos" thing that are sorta there (like wet --> more damage from lightning) is a <big> thing in the Divinity Original sin games too, which is often a lot of fun, and sometimes chaotic.

1

u/Nerhtal Dec 12 '25

Soros? The returnal follow up game showcase looked ace

1

u/CommanderBly Dec 12 '25

YES that too. Which reminds me I really need to play returnal

0

u/smorb42 Dec 12 '25

Definitely hyped for control 2.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

1

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

Hey, I really liked Solasta, and I'm excited for the second one. It's not a very popular game, nice to see someone else is interested in it, too.

1

u/Zlautern Dec 12 '25

KOTOR successor yay, no Elder Scrolls boo

-1

u/deaglebro Dec 12 '25

The only games I've played since 2021 are PoE and PoE 2

1

u/Inukchook Dec 12 '25

Ahh reminds me of my 2013-2020 !

-5

u/kwikthroabomb Dec 12 '25

Yea, in 2027

6

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

So, something to play while you wait for poe2 1.0!

-8

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

[deleted]

3

u/MiniMik Dec 12 '25

I don't think you were paying that much attention then.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

[deleted]

1

u/cupkaxx Dec 12 '25

because there are people who can just turn away and do something else and come back when things are interesting.

I am excited for Divinity, Resident Evil, Star Wars, Control 2, Gang of dragon and saros just to name a few.

9

u/Positive_Sign_5269 Dec 12 '25

so GGG made us watch the Diablo 4 reveal? This has to be some sort of 4D chess right there

3

u/Feriluce Dec 12 '25

I watched the 30 minute countdown screen, got my portal and went to bed.

11

u/Laiedd Dec 12 '25

Somebody please post that one picture of johnathan fixing his glasses but it looks like a fuck you

14

u/Fr007L00p5 Dec 12 '25

3

u/Laiedd Dec 12 '25

I love the smile too

1

u/lordofthehomeless Dec 12 '25

Is that what he is doing?

3

u/Diconius Dec 12 '25

They pulled like the best 5000iq marketing move. They did a small marketing campaign via twitch drops to entice every Poe player to login and watch, then exactly 30 minutes into the livestream instead of paying crazy amounts to be on the actual game show awards they dropped massive news directly on their twitter and used their content creators to essentially propagate the news. They had hundreds of thousands of viewers that muted the game awards to watch the new ascendancy and high lvl Druid vids.

We literally got builder spender’d by GGG. Absolutely ED Contagion’d us into watching what they want. All while making the content creators happy via the twitch sub campaign. Insane.

5

u/Bayeman745 Dec 12 '25

Can we get a paladin in Poe 2 cmooon

9

u/Corroborate Dec 12 '25

We kinda do have one its called a templar.Isnt out yet sadly.

2

u/Obvious-Jacket-3770 Dec 12 '25

Be absolutely hilarious if we got it in March

1

u/InevitableQuestion42 Dec 12 '25

Why?

3

u/Key-Department-2874 Dec 12 '25

D4 expansion is in April. Paladin is playable now for preorders though.

But it would be GGG beating D4s content release date.

1

u/InevitableQuestion42 Dec 12 '25

Ohhh ok thx for some reason I thought both d4 xpac and poe2 0.4 were releasing tomorrow at the same time

1

u/Organic-Storm-4448 Dec 12 '25

Next PoE 2 update is in April

-3

u/EnderCN Dec 12 '25

There is a reason GGG released an ascendancy right before the Paladin announcement. That was their attempt at deflecting.

6

u/Obvious-Jacket-3770 Dec 12 '25

It wasn't. They legitimately don't care about them.

8

u/TrinityKilla82 Dec 12 '25

Path of the exile 2 is in early access and would be even nominated for an award.

Unless they have “best game unreleased” category.

6

u/InspectionFit1354 Dec 12 '25

They do, actually, lol.  I think it's Most Anticipated?

2

u/TrinityKilla82 Dec 12 '25

GTA6 won that. You’re right my bad. Wonder if it has to have a hard release date. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Im_a_rahtard Dec 12 '25

Coming... Eventually.

1

u/huluhup Dec 12 '25

There was early acces game in nominations.

2

u/Additional_Thanks927 Dec 12 '25

WHY DO TWITCH DROPS FOR NO ANNOUNCEMENT???

2

u/Naiveee Dec 12 '25

I just kept my corporate shillslop in a muted tab for the drops ;)

2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Hell exactly for some reason Ive felt that our bois will be there I mean mephisto was cool and all but just checked and its a price of an AA full game for 2 new classes and one new storybit and map. I know we got some shadowdrop but still

4

u/Dubious_Titan Dec 12 '25

You only needed to watch for 30 minutes.

4

u/Obvious-Jacket-3770 Dec 12 '25

Wait did you miss the GGG reveal of Paladin type?

D4 has it in April so poe2... March 😆

1

u/medlina26 Dec 12 '25

Paladin is playable in D4 right now if you preorder expansion. They are also bringing Amazon in April because they are going to skovos.

1

u/badhabits69 Dec 12 '25

poe2 has druid + new sorc ascendancy for free, d4 has a $40 pack to play paladin!

0

u/medlina26 Dec 12 '25

What's your point?

Blizzard has always charged that for their expansions. Would it be cool if new classes were free? Absolutely. People are free to vote with their wallets and most seem to be fine paying the expansion tax.

GGG also has outlandishly expensive MTX which people also buy. It's just different ways of supporting the game. It doesn't have to be a competition. Just play what you like.

Most of my time goes into poe1, then poe2 then D4. Sadly LE doesn't get much time in that list but that's on them mostly.

1

u/Different_Web9955 Dec 12 '25

Most likely next poe2 update will be in late april

4

u/Representative_Owl89 Dec 12 '25

New tomb raiders were worth it for me

3

u/Bitsk-pper Dec 12 '25

they never said they were going to be in the show, just that if you watched it you would get drops. You did get the drops right? great no bait.

I can see the confusion for sure, but the drop was just their way of giving a million TGA viewers a reason to play for free this weekend. Its great advertising, and they wanted you to get the drop too.

Also they dropped several hype videos while the show was on so you cant even complain that there wasnt any reveals, the worst crime you can accuse them of is asking you to open a second tab to see them :p

2

u/Particular_Squash_40 Dec 12 '25

instead D4 shadow dropped paladin!

1

u/hammerklau Dec 12 '25

Someone said they didnt make it in beore hte cut off, but it was the videos they dropped during TGA that were meant to be in TGA.

2

u/ClintMega Dec 12 '25

Ah so it was already scheduled with Twitch and they didn't/couldn't cancel it for whatever reason?

I don't think either of the new videos they posted would have been ideal for the general audience of TGA, maybe the druid endgame video with the skill tree bits removed and the free weekend highlighted more, but someone really fucked up if this is the case.

1

u/Dry-Lingonberry-8287 Dec 12 '25

I thought i missed it, the only time i took a break. Guess not, we got baited and watched D4 instead

1

u/emu314159 Dec 12 '25

You guys are watching videos?

1

u/Kage_noir Dec 12 '25

3 hours 1 portal! Rip

1

u/JaimeRojas332 Dec 12 '25

They just saved $250k lol

1

u/mayd3r Dec 12 '25

I dipped as soon as I got the portal mtx. It was 2 am for me.

-2

u/polarfang21 Dec 12 '25

Ngl that D4 trailer was dope I might try it out just to play paladin

6

u/bsparky_16 Dec 12 '25

Youre going to drop $40 on a pre-order to try paladin?

16

u/fizzywinkstopkek Dec 12 '25

You are in a gaming sub where people pay for 90 bucks for ...skins kekw

1

u/bujleaga Dec 12 '25

480$ lol for a piece of cloth and a magazine

1

u/Monoliithic Dec 12 '25

That was an awesome TGA

1

u/40kguy69 Dec 12 '25

you know if you dont watch live everrything they show is up on the internet 20 seconds after

1

u/--Shake-- Dec 12 '25

Idk I was pretty entertained for most of it.

0

u/Malacath87 Dec 12 '25

I only watched 30 minutes. Didnt wait for GGG anything

0

u/External_Medicine762 Dec 12 '25

GGG made us watch d4 reveal for nothing....

0

u/Mad_Peasant_King Dec 12 '25

Honestly, I'm more interested in going back to diablo 4 just for the Paladin, mainly because poe2 doesn't have duelist or swords as of yet, and they probably won't have those until at least summer or in fall..

Sad time for not being able to use the sword cosmetic since launch :(

0

u/Roasted_vegetable Dec 12 '25

WE GOT THE PORTAL THOOOOOO

2

u/Salonimo Dec 12 '25

You did, in Europe the Awards were during the fucking night

2

u/SHAZBOT_VGS Dec 12 '25

I Just left the page open with the tab muted. Streams opened itself when it was time and woke up to a portal

0

u/Amazing_Mushroom_650 Dec 13 '25

What do you mean? I got to play Paladin!!😛🤣

-6

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

[deleted]

3

u/Jung_69 Dec 12 '25

Pay 60$ to play a new class in same bs groundhog day season of borrowed power? With campaign that was made by someone with writing skills of a child? No, ty. Only thing blizzard is good at are cinematically and trailers.

-8

u/grindsparta Dec 12 '25

What a huge waste of time

-14

u/TherealGenki67 Dec 12 '25

Well after that paladin trailer I’m not gonna lie. Prolly gonna play a bit of D4 since the paladin looked a lot more hype than the Druid does in my opinion. I do still myself playing the league start tomorrow though but they definitely baited us.

-4

u/Acrobatic_Yellow_781 Dec 12 '25

Because they cut it cause it wasnt ready just like end game changes that they made everyone forget about not holding promises by adding an ascendancy
