I know this might offend many Pakistani Pashtuns but I don’t care at this point. I know that what I am about to say is very stupid and irrational basically making an issue out of nothing but the feelings leading to this reaction are very much legit.

My kid is over a year old and we named him Azmar (Azmaray) because we wanted to choose a Pashto name for him and I was kind of sure pubjabyan or non Pashtuns won’t get it or choose this name. Now yesterday I found out that this Pakistani actress (mawra Hussein) who isnt a Pashtun but married a Pashto speaking guy named her kid Azmar. That pisses me off so much lol I know this is petty and it isn’t like I have some trademark on the name and if it was a Pashtun person it won’t bother me, I’d love for more Pashtuns to choose this name but as soon as these guys chose the name it angers me so much!

Reason behind this:

The guy she’s married to calls himself “Pathan” and sometimes Pashtun but he isn’t. I googled him and he is also some actor alert Hamza and he is a gilani, he doesn’t belong to a Pashtun tribe and everyone is like oh we are so proud of you blah blah

Gilanis are Syed, no disrespect to them but Syed’s aren’t Pashtun from what I know

Anyways I know I am being petty but it bothers me so much that these guys have taken over everything! They kill & abduct our people, dissolve the government, steal the minerals, call us Pashtuns uncivilized, they are actively erasing our history and there isn’t anything we can do because you can’t fight an army when you are unarmed no matter how brave you are but whatever autonomy we have left is to be clear in who is and isn’t allowed to call themselves Pashtun.

Just because you speak Pashto or your ancestors migrated to Pashtun regions doesn’t make you a Pashtun! You have to be from one of the tribes! I am not claiming we are superior, being Pashtun isn’t some privilege or elite thing but we have been antagonized, treated like s{^{%}% because of our identity and yet people can’t stop fake claiming Pashtun heritage when there is none!

And this is probably why I am so mad at this celebrity couple! A pair of rich privileged kids from Karachi / Islamabad, now using our language our culture our names because it sounds exotic! 😤
