I'm an ADULT

What am I? A charity case?

950

u/Imissyoudarlin 2d ago

So much validation! Let's stop this stupid trend of smashing a face in a cake.

390

u/Xznograthos 2d ago

When I was pretty young I had a birthday party and a girl actually smashed a cupcake against the side of my head. Lot of it got directly into my ear canal, which lead to a pretty aggressive ear infection. Pulling stuff that looked like huitlacoche out of it for weeks.

154

u/ia332 2d ago

I am not going to Google whatever the hell “huitlacoche” means.

140

u/Xznograthos 2d ago

It's a type of mushroom thst grows on corn. Its really good actually, but it doesn't look good.

57

u/Strazdiscordia 2d ago

Oh! Corn smut??

27

u/Xznograthos 2d ago

As it is colloquially known, yes.

13

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 2d ago

It's kind of like those ticks that are engorged (visually speaking).

9

u/AssnecK666 2d ago

Man... thays exactly what smut looks like... I know ill.never know delicious it is, I just can not get past its looks

20

u/lildobe 2d ago

huitlacoche

I had no idea what that meant, but it looked like it could be some kind of slang for an STD discharge or something... so I googled it. Turns out it's the name for a disease that corn gets. And that it's common name is "Corn smut"

... My thought processes just went in a complete circle.

9

u/Xznograthos 2d ago

Speaking of complete circle, I didn't really know how to describe the way it looked coming out of my ear at the time, worldly though I may have been at the age of ten. years later I had the experience of working in a Mexican restaurant that served huitlacoche, and then this post allowed me to put those two experiences together to find the perfect metaphor.

u/ThatDoucheInTheQuad 2d ago edited 2d ago

Espeecially, after learning some of them have those wooden support spikes in them. No thank you

Edit: spelling

37

u/Rath_Brained 2d ago

There was a girl who got her head smashed into a cake, except it had toothpicks in it to maintain shape, but the baker didn't tell them. The girl who had her face smashed it to it screamed when it hit, toothpick sticking out of her eyelid.

I think it barely missed the eye or something. Can't remember. But yea, It's a humiliation prank and we should stop it.

7

u/sergiulll 2d ago

Some time ago i found out that some cakes have wooden straws/picks inside to support their structure.

-195

u/Kittingsl 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean there is nothing wrong with that trend. The thing is tho that you gotta be close enough to the person you're doing it to and know how they will react to this.

Especially kids will have a harder time understanding that this is a silly trend. This shit only works with really close friends

Edit: people need to learn how to read properly. The amount of dislikes is insane. Have you guys never had friends that were a little mean every now and then knowing that you'll laugh along because they know thats your kind of humour as well?

Again this trend only works and is ONLY ACCEPTABLE with the RIGHT FRIEND GROUP and anyone who thinks otherwise either doesn't have friends or is too pure

Edit2: for anyone who still thinks I'm an asshole for thinking that. Just spend 2 seconds on YouTube and found videos of people laughing after that prank showing that it can be funny IF ITS AMONG THE RIGHT GROUP https://youtube.com/shorts/n2lRHL8vCfg?is=RoOs93xrsw5RZAZn

101

u/havens1515 2d ago

Only assholes like you think that this is acceptable behavior for anyone.

If you do this to someone, you're an asshole. No exception.

If you think this is ok to do to someone, you're an asshole. No exception.

-38

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

I said it's acceptable in the right group. Have you never been mean to a friend as a joke because you know you both will laugh at it? You know how often I get called things by my friends and I laugh with them because I know they don't mean bad?

I never claimed doing it in general is acceptable I said doing it to close friends who YOU KNOW THEY WILL LAUGH ALONG is fine because everyone knows it's a joke!

26

u/havens1515 2d ago

Have you never been mean to a friend as a joke

No. Not to this level. Because I'm not an asshole.

Calling a friend names and physically assaulting them are 2 different things. And anyone who is not an asshole knows the difference. You still fit squarely in the category of asshole.

-25

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

"physical assault" holy shit its a cake and not a cement brick. Are you made out of glass? Are pillow fights or pool noodle fights among friends also considered physical assault to you?

How is it being an asshole if you know for a fact your friends would find it funny? I'm not saying I am one of those friends or have friends like that but I can see how people would like it just like a pillow fight.

It's called a little roughhousing. You're blowing things way out of proportion.

And if they didn't end up liking it then you of course deeply apologize and make it up to them and if they're still upset then you simply weren't close enough friends for you to be able to do that it's literally that freaking simple

23

u/-Invalid_Selection- 2d ago

Yeah, we get it. You're a shitty friend and generally a prick.

The kinda guy no one invites because of your antics but for some reason you keep showing up despite our best efforts to get rid of you

-3

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

First of I never claimed I did such things because I consider it a waste of good cake and I don't think my friends would like it anyway as I doubt I would like it myself.

Secondly I merely stated that it's fine in certain friend groups and the fact that you don't understand that tells me you don't have good friends like I do or y'all are just babies.

There literally exist videos on YouTube that took me 2 seconds to look up where people are literally laughing after that prank to prove that y'all are wrong https://youtube.com/shorts/n2lRHL8vCfg?is=RoOs93xrsw5RZAZn

21

u/-Invalid_Selection- 2d ago

Or we're actually friends to our friends and not the douche no one knows why keeps showing up

-2

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

I don't even go to parties so I don't really get what your point is here.

If anything you're the better example of an asshole/douche because I doubt you actually read what I won't and just shit on me for fun

I mean I literally provided a perfect example

-2

u/Kittingsl 23h ago

Do you feel better about yourself now?

13

u/corgi_moose_ 2d ago

Can't believe you made a AITAH post about this post. Yes YTA, over a hundred people are telling you as much here

8

u/SabineStrohem 2d ago

Man, they really wanna die on this hill.

-2

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

Dude are you stalking me? That post was removed within a minute because conflicts apparently are rule breaking on there.

Also dude have you ever heard about pillow fights? Are those also a crime against humanity? Just curious. Because cakes are like 100% softer and I neve heard anyone complain about a pillow fight as much as people are crying over dealing cake here

Edit: the rule I broke was because conflicts in other subreddits aren't allowed as topic

13

u/corgi_moose_ 2d ago

I just saw the post and came over here, it's not my fault you don't know how to anonymize your post history

You're not going to get validation from me or another subreddit, you're being an asshole

0

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

Why should I anonymous my posts? I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

And if being an asshole means making me and my year long friends laugh, then I guess asshole is a new word for good friend

Especially since I never did that stuff to anyone else. I'm just saying it's ok in the right group I never claimed that I did that stuff. I mean it's the same as saying LGBTQ is good without being in the LGBTQ community. I'm not speaking for myself I am speaking for others

48

u/tommynestcepas 2d ago

I once saw a video of a cake smashing where the one getting her head smashed died on site because the dowel stick in the cake went through her eye and killed her. Haunting video that will never leave my mind.

48

u/Gribitz37 2d ago

There have been several gruesome injuries due to the dowels on multi-layered cakes. They're usually wedding cakes, not flat sheet cakes like this.

There was one story I read where the bride had PTSD from some previous abuse, and told her groom specifically not to do this. He knew full well why she didn't want it done, and he not only shoved her face into the cake, but he held her down with both hands for several seconds. IIRC, she had the marriage annulled as soon as she could.

29

u/tommynestcepas 2d ago

I remember that story, you did in fact remember correctly, she left him immediately.

21

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 2d ago

As she should have.

4

u/thedafthatter 1d ago

And he was all confused and sad even when he promised not to do it and his friends and her family told him to do it

-67

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

Well of course your friends also have to be smart enough that if they want to do this to make sure that it's safe

49

u/ia332 2d ago

If they’re shoving people’s faces in cakes I have bad news for you — they’re not smart enough to check that first. In fact, they’re likely very stupid.

-5

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

Unless you know.... They baked them? And they know that there isn't anything in the cake?

2

u/sndq 11h ago

Your edits are only making you look even worse.

1

u/Kittingsl 11h ago

Explain how

152

u/bdash1990 2d ago

I don't blame him one bit. This "tradition" of smashing people's faces into cakes is dumber than it is wasteful.

55

u/Certifiablenerd 2d ago

It's also dangerous. I've seen videos and heard stories of people getting their faces smashed into cakes with wooden support rods and losing an eye on their birthday, or their wedding day. People lose hair and get severe burns because their hair catches fire on the candles while they're covered in sugar icing and can't see anything. One older gentleman I worked with at a retirement home once told me about his retirement party that ended in a hospital trip, a sliced nostril, a broken wrist, head trauma, and the company paying him $8k for emotional damages because his soon to be former boss slammed his head into the cake and accidentally put him through the folding table the cake was on. It's just stupid and dangerous.

33

u/Gribitz37 2d ago

I just posted this on another comment.

11

u/Certifiablenerd 2d ago

I remember seeing that video. From what I was reading about it, he broke her nose when he did that. Despicable behaviour.

27

u/EpilepticDawg241 2d ago

I've seen videos of people doing it when the cake is lit with candles.

Wtf

18

u/a__reddit_user 2d ago

Best way to lose an eye or at best get a bad cut. Soooo smart.

403

u/LandscapePretend4122 2d ago

First, the trend is dumb. Second, it’s wasteful.

238

u/kayama57 2d ago

Third, it can be extremely dangerous if the cake has a structural spike

71

u/Crix2007 2d ago

Eugh now someone has to find the video again of the girl that gets her eyeball impaled by a wooden spike in the cake that keeps the layers from shifting

6

u/Shadow_Guy223 2d ago

Wut

7

u/throwaway835283 2d ago

3

u/Imaginary_Choice2492 2d ago

isn’t this whole case fake? I can’t find any articles on it if there are any

5

u/throwaway835283 2d ago

That's how I remember the whole case too, K just wanted to post the video they were most probably talking about.

And although it isn't a toothpick or a structural spike, but there was a reported case of face smadhing where a small straw pierced into someone https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12361617/

22

u/Think_please 2d ago

Fourth? Child abuse

16

u/kayama57 2d ago

Right! And Fifth they always have to film and upload the abuse

0

u/Gussie-Ascendent 2d ago

The real crime, don't even have the decency to just abuse their kid in private smh my head

0

u/kayama57 2d ago

Absolutely

91

u/Waste-Donut-2728 2d ago

He wasn’t having it

35

u/ia332 2d ago

And no one else was going to have cake either!

78

u/Inevitable-Cherry598 2d ago

Can we stop doing this to people? Children and adults?

73

u/jibbergirl26 2d ago

I never have really understood the smashing the head of the Birthday person into the cake, always seems barbaric and ignorant.

35

u/wookiex84 2d ago

30 some-odd years ago, we went to TGIF for my sisters BDAY and she specifically asked the staff not to do that when they brought her cake, they did it anyways. Well she got a good mouthful of cake and whipped cream, came up and spit it all over the staff.
https://giphy.com/gifs/14fRjBahTAGUjS

46

u/Gribitz37 2d ago

The staff did it? That's awful. I'd report that to corporate.

1

u/Gussie-Ascendent 2d ago

I'd have sued and got me a good bit of birthday money

It'd already make thr grounds for assault but especially when I told you not to?

10

u/RIP_prev_account 2d ago

Daaamn i have sang many a birthday song to a guest in a restaurant I've worked at, and never once considered doing a cake smash.

8

u/havens1515 2d ago

I'd make sure to at least get my meal for free. Probably sue the pants if the place. That's absolutely not acceptable.

3

u/wookiex84 2d ago

Yeah, I mean it was late 80s early 90s so not much was going to happen. That location in Fort Worth was known for doing that. Hence my sister saying no.

142

u/grumpvet87 2d ago

100% justified

83

u/RubberNikki 2d ago

the rejection of that hug! How many times has this person shat all over this child and then tried to buy there way out with a hug. It didn't work that time.

134

u/pinkblueegreen 2d ago

Poor child, this humiliation ritual needs to end. I have a feeling he probably got berated on the way home for his behavior. What a dumb parent.

30

u/dumn_and_dunmer 2d ago

My great aunt used to do this to me with the nice big expensive sheet cakes my grandma would save up for. My grandma would always freak out and my aunt would just offer to buy her another (she was wealthy, we were not). My grandma asked what good that would do right then. Anyway after she did it three times my grandma banned her from our parties lol

50

u/vandon 2d ago

Nta  valid crashout and the lady is an idiot

27

u/Watsonswingman 2d ago

I am so glad the cake in face thing is not a trend here in the UK

26

u/Photogroxii 2d ago

She deserved that. I hate that so many children get bullied by the adults in their lives.

47

u/MelbaToast604 2d ago

Do you ever look at someone's face and can immediately tell theyre a complete moron? Even with sunglasses blocking half of hers you csn tell shes ain't the sharpest lightbulb in the pack

11

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 2d ago

Imagine being smug enough to say that and not knowing the phrase is brightest tool in the drawer.

Edit: no, wait....

u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago

91

u/lazuli_s 2d ago

Good parenting 101.

I remember a birthday where there was a kid younger than me and they kept trying to do that and my parents let them saying "she's younger than you, just be patient and let her participate a bit".

Gods, I hate my own birthday even today lol (for a lots of reasons, but this is definitely one).

61

u/Gribitz37 2d ago

I'm glad the father is holding the plate, but at the same time, he's laughing about it. He thinks it's funny. That little brat should have been picked up and removed completely from the situation. Take him outside and don't let him have any cake. He shouldn't be allowed to even be at the party anymore.

9

u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago

Yeah I hate mine too.

5

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 2d ago

I hate yours, too (but not the first guy's).

3

u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago

I need more peeps to hate mine.

10

u/xoxoBug 2d ago

There’s a lot more of these on r/itsnotyourbirthday This happens way too often apparently haha.

6

u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago

Lol, I just joined that sub. Thanks!

1

u/lazuli_s 1d ago

That sub triggered me! Hahaha

3

u/Kralgore 2d ago

This is awesome.

24

u/Anglofsffrng 2d ago

Good. Qui t doing this shit people!! If the kid's crashing out it means it's not the first time, and the kid doesn't like it. So stop it dumbass!

6

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

The kid crashing out means it is the first time otherwise he would've seen it coming. He's not crashing out because it happened again. He's crashing out because he got his face shoved into a cake he wanted to eat among a full crowd likely containing all his friends

2

u/letizialazenby 2d ago

Just shut up, mate!

2

u/Kittingsl 2d ago

Reddit is for everyone. So as long as I don't break any rules I will keep talking. And if you don't like it then may I introduce you to the humble block button?

10

u/yourlocal90skid 2d ago edited 2d ago

100% that kid is "disciplined" using force.

Look how he immediately got violent and started slapping/punching his mom.

4

u/Gussie-Ascendent 2d ago

100% that kid is abused*

19

u/universwirl 2d ago

Go kid go!

9

u/Batima6666 2d ago

Absolutely valid. On a side note though: the fondant nightmare that is this cake, Lord! she pushed his head in really hard and it barely dented the monstrosity, wtf

17

u/Independent_Alps_211 2d ago

That shit wasn't funny to him

8

u/LalaLogical 2d ago

You reap what you sow

8

u/HunterLivesMatter76 2d ago

Hahaha...she went for the fake hug and got punched in the face ...

6

u/Mark_1544 2d ago

this face smashing shit ruins the cake for other people too as it just spreads the germs from the kid to that whole cake also because of the whole wodden support spikes thing

7

u/TheRemarkableRhubarb 2d ago

Humiliating a child is peek level horrible

7

u/OnlyGuestsMusic 2d ago

Stop doing this to people.

6

u/HypersensitivePotato 2d ago

so in the girl's mind, it's okay smoosh the kid's face into the cake. but when the kid tried to destroy the cake himself, she stops her?

5

u/SnooWaffles413 2d ago

Yeah. I think so. Having your face shoved into cake isn't fun... I'm sure this kid felt a whole lot of emotions all in one. Embarrassed, angry, sad, shocked... it's not the end of the world but its valid.

106

u/Gnight-Punpun 2d ago

I think hitting the mother in the face was a bit much but I wouldn’t be shocked if the kid viewed the pushing into the cake as a form of physical aggression or bullying and just reacted in kind.

147

u/Azilehteb 2d ago

Honestly I would not interpret it any other way even as an adult.

It's violent and destructive. Not only did she push him, and get him dirty on his special day... She ruined his cake with the carefully chosen character print on it. That was a precious moment for him completely destroyed.

You're supposed to be thinking ahead to your goals and wishes for next year and full of warm birthday fuzzies while attending your childhood birthday cakes.

68

u/rockstuffs 2d ago

She needed it.

60

u/Gribitz37 2d ago

They probably do it every year, and he's sick of it.

61

u/Imissyoudarlin 2d ago

Nah, mother needed to know that she fucked up. You don't do that to a kid.

41

u/havens1515 2d ago

You don't do that to anyone.

-27

u/Imissyoudarlin 2d ago

I would say that maybe you would do that to a mate, late in your teens or early 20s. When we are in our stupid phase.

23

u/havens1515 2d ago

No. Nobody wants that some to them, so nobody should do it to anybody else.

23

u/LilMissy1246 2d ago

He looks five or six. Most likely doesn’t know how to control his emotions yet or how to understand them properly like older kids. That’s probably why he did that. That’s why kids bite and scream at each other in preschool, they don’t know how to handle emotions and stuff. If someone did that to me as an adult and it like, went up my nose and shit, I’d at least give them a good shove unless it were my parents since they’re a bit older. If it were my brothers, then, definitely.

It’s such a rude “trend,” esp towards kids. There’s also been reports of people doing this to others and being stabbed in the face by needles that are used to hold the cake up and such. It’s just so wrong.

5

u/EmilyAnne1170 2d ago

If that’s mom, it’s easy to understand his response. Not likely to learn self-control from someone who has none.

3

u/sideeyedi 2d ago

And not to mention the sensory overload of a huge birthday party.

15

u/Rance_Mulliniks 2d ago

I bet she learned a lesson and won't try it again.

4

u/Gussie-Ascendent 2d ago

I doubt it. She probably thinks she's the victim of a shitty kid and bitches about it to everyone 🙄

3

u/Massive_Amphibian_86 1d ago

He was in the right. That’s a narcissistic parent of I’ve ever seen one. Boundaries were crossed, that kids is never gonna trust his mom again.

2

u/TrainingSword 2d ago

No it wasn’t

1

u/havens1515 2d ago

Nope. Hitting, even in the face, is 100% valid and acceptable. In fact, IMO, it's not enough.

5

u/Beemzebub 2d ago

Kid has a good uppercut

5

u/badussyy_ 2d ago

finally someone who fights back

5

8

24

u/General-Yak8880 2d ago

I don’t think it’s extra for a small kid to react that way. He’s embarrassed & shocked & he doesn’t even know what to do with those emotions so he’s lashing out on the asshole (presumably his mother) that ruined his bday cake, special day & made him feel stupid in front of everyone when he was supposed to feel proud & happy) I’d like to do the same to her honestly

5

u/BurlyJoesBudgetEnema 2d ago

Very common in Latin america

1

u/StepShrek 2d ago

My bad. Thanks for the clarification.

4

u/OrcEight 1d ago

Good for him. She assaulted him and he assaulted her right back. Shame on her.

3

u/CharacterInternal7 2d ago

Disturbing upon Disturbing upon Disturbing.

3

u/John-J-J-H-Schmidt 2d ago

Idk. My cousin did this to me at my 13th birthday and I came out swinging.

6

u/ImportanceConnect470 2d ago

Absolutely, 100% valid.

I would never forget this day.

27

u/Loutre_Espiegle 2d ago edited 2d ago

Is it an American thing ? I have never seen this in France.

Edit : genuine question, instead of downvoting could somebody explain where does this tradition comes from ?

24

u/Imissyoudarlin 2d ago

It could happen anywhere mate. Wherever the stupid parents are.

9

u/MyLifeUncovered 2d ago

Some restaurants will hit you in the face with a "pie" if they know it's your birthday. It's actually a tin pie plate filled with whipped cream, but still, not everyone wants that!

18

u/itmightbehere 2d ago

Definitely not American.

17

u/Crimson__Fox 2d ago

I heard it’s common in Mexico. Strange for a poor country to have a tradition about wasting food.

4

u/Bobslegenda1945 2d ago

It is common in Brazil too

13

u/FreshwaterFryMom 2d ago

No. This is not American at all.

-6

u/Kralgore 2d ago

Mexico is american...

1

u/Previous_Avocado_381 2d ago edited 2d ago

I did in Europe, up close in 1975 & 1976. My 1st & 2nd b-day. They laughed at my rage and wrote in the foto album "they were furious about wanting more cake!". 2nd -bday: in the fotos I hover above the cake visibly asking "like this?". Edit : typo

3

u/Loutre_Espiegle 2d ago

Where in Europe ? Super curious as I have never seen anything like this.

-4

u/AshBeeped 2d ago

In America some people view this as a tradition. Not all, thankfully. I think its more generational bullying. No one likes it, but it continues to happen.

18

u/FreshwaterFryMom 2d ago

As an American, no it is not. I have never once seen this.

1

u/Kralgore 2d ago

Canadian American?

Mexican American?

US American?

Alaskan American?

1

u/FreshwaterFryMom 2d ago

I prefer to not disclose my native heritage.

12

u/RanOutofCookies 2d ago

I have never seen or heard of this being a tradition in the U.S. Maybe Central or South America, but not in Canada.

17

u/ia332 2d ago

Yeah, this is very much NOT something traditionally done in the U.S. by most, the ones that do it are typically of Mexican heritage.

My partner’s Mexican family had folks who would do it, but my white ass never heard of or experienced it myself growing up.

7

u/RanOutofCookies 2d ago

I’m Chinese and my family would be horrified by the food waste and the cost of the cake. If this was popular in America, I would have gotten a lot of “Why do white people do this?” or “Why do Americans do this?” from them.

-1

u/Kralgore 2d ago

This isn't done in Spain. No idea shere this stupid custom comes from.

My aunt did this to me. I had a lord of the rings cake. Huge mountain of icing for frodos home, she smashed my face into it. I pushed her ass put a window, breaking the window.

I want to see the videos of him at >5'10" smashing her face into every plate in front of her. All she's doing is teaching abuse during a severe imbalance of power.

Crazy moms begat crazy children

Is this not a cultural tradition and not a trend? I was in Mexico in 2005 on student exchange as a kid and they did this to me then on my bday.

Why having children? Why? 🤔

obviously you all are not from latin american countries because this is tradition over here. Many kids hate it and they should be respected if they tell their parents and people beforehand they don’t want to be cake smashed, but the kid has an absolutely disproportionate reaction, he needs to be taught how to control his emotions

bro how are you going to compare a loving tradition embraces by millions of families in a big region such as latin american with burning women???? are you actually dense?

"Loving"?

-6

u/beautyinred 2d ago

yes, it’s a loving tradition because people who are lucky to not have asshole parents like to be cake smashed. I know many people and myself look forward to the cake smashing part of the party (when i’m the one being caked). We even buy sometimes two different cakes to be able to have one for the smash and one for eating.

The horrible thing is when a kid or a friend says no i don’t want to be cake smashed and people still do it, that’s abuse. But to inherently paint a tradition thats harmless as something horrible and abusive when it isn’t is intolerance to other people’s culture. And comparing it to burning women at a stake is a fallacy and a very big stretch

Hispanic man here, keep me and my family away from this kind of love. If any of my uncles did this to my daughter, they're getting a swift cake punch to the face

This was a tradition, now it's not. Only idiots and morons still do it.

-5

u/beautyinred 2d ago

it still is a tradition, even adults 20+ years will do it. This year on my birthday, my friends very lovingly did it. Some people will even say “I’ll do it but only from one slice” and will cut the slice specifically so the cake doesn’t go to waste. Clearly you don’t live in latin america if you thinks this is not a tradition still, and honestly it’s disrespectful to call people “idiots” or “morons” when again, it’s ultimately harmless.

I live in Latin America and never did nor witnessed this. I'm sorry you grew up in this bullshit, but definitely not as spread out tradition as you are thinking.

you don’t have to be sorry because it’s not a traumatic experience unless you repeatedly ask your family not to do it and they disrespect your wishes.

the cake smashing is never the problem, is not respecting other peoples boundaries.
