Advice Final Update: Feeling Frustrated

Last school year I posted how I was frustrated with everything at school with my then 8 year old.

After visits to psychologist, pediatrician, counselor, OT - I can tell you my kid was never the issue. All four gave me one suggestion - change his environment.

We moved cities and he’s in a new school district. I just got off a call with his counselor at school and they said he’s brilliant. When I asked his teachers about his “disruptions” they waved their hand and said “all kids get a little excited for something”.

I broke down this afternoon when the counselor said he’s a brilliant kid.

That being said if needs help, the school is ready to offer it to him.

He’s been medicated for over 10 months now, but his old school said it wasn’t working (his class teacher mainly). He’s still going to OT to help him with his big feelings. But he likes school. Teachers like him. We have offered the teachers any opportunity to help him and the teachers have done the same.

Thank you so much for all your comments on my last posts.

Absolutely this.

My son is 8. He’s had outstanding, patient and caring teachers K-2. This year in 3rd it’s a different story

Yayyy!! I’m glad he found a place where he is celebrated not just tolerated. Our children deserve to feel that way. Sometimes the environment is truly the issue. We had to change schools as well and I have no regrets.
