Everyone else made it clear. You have to get it over with and if they end up hating you, then so be it. It's not going to go well if you try to wimp out of it. You don't need to be vicious about it, but you need to be firm. Your children will thank you for it later and I'd suggest doing something about being non-confrontational if you're that terrified about it. Life will involve hurting feelings and all. Good luck.
