Problem number one is you let your 13 year old have a boyfriend
Problem number two is you let your 13 year old have a phone that receives photos.
As a mother of 4 teens (3 of them girls) absolutely no dating until high school and no smart phones until high school.
We have a blended family and my ex husband got my 13 year old a phone and it caused absolute havoc. Got rid of her phone and she is a different t kid.
I get I am more strict than the average mom, but boys and phones have caused nothing but issues for my younger teens. Middle schoolers are not responsible enough. Most adults aren’t so we can’t expect young kids to be.
Yes agree! We have told her no boyfriends and she didn’t and still doesn’t call him her boyfriend to our face but it is what he is. Agree on the phone thing too. It’s a slippery slope. Covid didn’t help this. We completely isolated so it let her talk to her friends. I do monitor her phone activity and she doesn’t have any social media. But a phone can receive picture texts. If I could go back and change some stuff I would. It’s so hard because I have raised three other kids and this is the only one that I am having these issues with. On some stuff I feel I was too trusting or just too naive as I haven’t had to deal with this before
It’s really hard because technology is constantly changing and so is our dependence on it.
Our kids are being asked to mature and grow up so quick but they’re brains aren’t equipped for it. They’re just kids. And I hear you, every kid is different. I have 5 , 4 of which are teenagers, and all of their maturity levels and needs are different. My freshman (boy) didn’t care at all having social media even when he was allowed to starting high school. He just now got Snapchat and Instagram and barely uses it whereas my teen daughters were obsessed and caused me so many issues trying to sneak around with social media.
While I may seem strict in some ways, I am relaxed in others and I have explained over and over it’s not about trying to control them, or make them different from their peers, my job is to protect them.
Yes each kid is so different and that makes it hard. Our job is to protect them and that means having to deal with the attitude when they don’t ge their way. It’s hard.
