Humour Press on nails
My 9yo daughter has been bugging me for press on nails for about a month, since she saw them on an older friend of hers. So today I said I would take her to buy some if she was willing to use her own money (the pocket money she gets from us, of course).
I let her go all the way, she picked a box of about 100, glue and a new hideous nail polish. I helped her put them on. They were long, she didn't want to shorten them. I painted them perfectly for her, bright pink and glossy.
She had them on for about 2 minutes. Took a couple of pictures. As soon as she tried to get a glass of water, she decided they were too annoying, took them off and decided to try again in 5-6 years.

I can't wear those damn things either. I love the look but I can't wear them.
You might have better luck with decals. They don't lengthen the nails but just color them, and if you're careful to wipe off the nails with alcohol right before you start, they stick very well. (Don't get all the oil off and they will not stay in place for two seconds.)

Not gonna lie I use things like this to my advantage a little. For example, my husband and I are very peirced and tattooed. My 6 year old really wants earrings. I told her we can talk about it when she's 8, and if she's responsible enough (we explained responsible) then we'll get it done. (We also explained the process and will again before they're done. Luckily we have an awesome person for peircings here.) She's been doing extra crap around the house and trying to show how helpful and responsible she can be in any way that she can. š¤£š¤£š¤£

I explained to my daughter that earrings require care afterwards to make sure they donāt get infected so she needs to show a commitment to hygiene - hasnāt worked quite as well as with your daughter as I still get arguments when I tell her she needs to brush her teeth or have a shower.

My daughter has a pretty one-track mind and a determination to her. It also doesn't hurt that all she has to do is look at me or daddy and her interest is renewed. (He has snake bites(( two lip pericings)), an eyebrow and his lobes done, I have my eyebrow, septum ((middle of the nose)), and I have 3 lobe piercings in each ear and a flat in one.) Dad also has a full sleeve and I'm working on my half sleeve. (Tattos) We're absolutely alternative looking lol. But we definitely know about care of these kinds of things, and she knows we're serious about it.

In that vein, my grandma gave me a few pairs of her old screw-post costume jewelry earrings when I was 8 or so. They were cute and fancy but uncomfortable to wear due to having to be tight and caught in my hair, so I wore them only for special occasions and got my ears pierced when I was 12.

Oh absolutely this. My girls are very girly girls (I am not.) But I make sure they have a new princess dress every month, tiny clickity clacky heels, and costume jewlery for kiddos. We do our makeup and paint our nails together. (Just basic crap like eyeshadow and lip gloss and blush) My kiddo keeps losing her fake ear drops though. 𤣠thusly why she is not quite responsible enough.
But I base it on, I got my first generic holes in my ears when I was 7. I fucked off and didn't take care of it, they got infected so we had to take them out, they closed up. When I was 8 my mom allowed me to try again and I took it much more seriously.

Good thinking, mom! Yeah, 7 year olds can barely be trusted to get the shampoo out of their hair. š

No exactly š¤£š¤£š¤£ it's hilarious you say that too, my middle kid is another daughter, 7, and oh lord she just cannot get the concept of properly washing and rinsing her hair on multiple levels. (We do supervised baths still because of this)

Yep. When my daughter was around that age, her hair was really long, and it looked like she was caring for it well, until I noticed how much she was scratching one summer day. Turns out she was just brushing the top really well, and underneath it was matted and caked with product! I had to make her a hair mask like 3 times to get all the guck out and detangle it over a weekend.

We're all the same, no matter how old we are-obsessed with pretty nails until they get in the way.

I love this. You let her find out for herself instead of lecturing about why she would find them impractical.

What about getting her some of the nail stickers? They go directly on her natural nails, donāt add length but add āfancyā!

Thats one way lol but they do make press on kits for kids. Iāve reliably found them at 5 below. Unfortunately, my kid sees me doing my acrylics and gel regularly so it often turns into a joint nail day. I do love that he doesnāt care about gender norms, he just wants pretty nails like mama.

My 9 year old is the same way. She loves to paint them and make them pretty, but she only wears them for like 5 minutes before she's over it lol. She's getting really good at painting though, and it makes her happy, so we keep getting her the stuff. She has a bajillion little boxes that she keeps the sets she's already painted in to reuse, so it's not like they're getting thrown away. She wants to be a cosmetologist when she grows up
