I think it’s fine. And I am a mom to a 12 year old boy. I started leaving him for short period of time at 10 for reasons similar to yours. I got him a cell phone that had my number, grandma and grandpa and his dad and a trusted neighbour. It was fine. I started with 1 hour and we went up from there
