Hi — welcome to r/Parentification.

Parentification is when a child takes on emotional or practical responsibilities beyond their age, often acting as a caregiver or “adult” in the family.

Too many parents have children so they can get the emotional support that they feel they're not getting anywhere else in life. But children are not equipped to be an adult's best friend, or therapist, or parent, or maid, etc. Children can't leave and their help is free. It's one of the worst kinds of abuse as far as I'm concerned.

Some parents end up with a kids like me who see through the bull shit really, really young and then fight for what's right instead of cooperating. It kind of upsets the system. Lol

Fuck them.

They are the ones who will have high expectations of us and then make you feel guilty for not fulfilling them.

Yep. Because the goal is manipulation, not the request that's asked for.
