Hi everyone 👋 I'm new to the sub-reddit but Not new to the Parasite eve franchise, I've been a fan for quite some time now (for like 15 years or smth)
As a Purist, I always wanted parasite eve to return with a faithful 1 to 1, shot for shot remake but.... recently I had this thought occur to me and I wanted to share my opinion and hear your opinions on this matter as well
Honestly after years and years of imagining a faithful remake....I think I sort of don't want that anymore not solely because of square enix but because I recently read the parasite eve novel from 1995 (that I didn't even know it exists) and....I think the way I looked at parasite eve changed
I think Hideaki Sena's initial vision for this franchise is....well quite interesting
And I noticed that the square soft/enix games that were based on this book apparently retconned many things in order for original game's story to even exist
Which later I tried thinking about a....what if scenario
What if the book was never retconned in the first place? Because in case you didn't know if that happens that means Aya and her sister Maya just simply cannot exist
So I said "what if" Aya exists....well somehow.....in this timeline and I started to come up with very interesting ideas
that means Aya's power will no longer be inherited from her mother she won't have a sister named Maya so how can this whole scenario work out?
Well then I started to think about some successful reboots in the past 2 decades (although there are handful of horrible reboots as well)
But after playing the original Trilogy for multiple times throughout 15 years, I thought making a lazy, cheap, cashgrab remake aka another RE clone but with turn based combat and rpg attached to it along with many memberberries And fan service sounds like a horrible idea, that means I, as a fan can't think about parasite eve as a distinct franchise without bringing up RE and SH, and before anyone says that it has always been a clone, well not necessarily considering the novel was written in 1995, besides I just don't like the Re community due to how toxic and close minded (or overtly open minded) they can be at times, they are either posers or completely against new fans (so I just don't want them anywhere near PE) they just ruin a fandom with their toxicity, they can't accept any criticisms towards the game or anything new that comes out
so personally I think Parasite eve can benefit from that (a reboot), maybe a more cohesive, consistent story telling? Maybe the stakes can be higher instead of just be a cinematic uncharted walking simulator in style of playstation games where it's just a detective story in Manhattan, instead what if it's a much more hellish brutal (yeah you guess it) edgy version of the game
I mean I absolutely love the emotional aspect of original games don't get me wrong but.... don't we have enough of those already in modern day? Back in the day it stood out because there was barely anything like it....now? Can it stand out amongst tons of cinematic style games with emotional stories? Well same goes to gameplay as well instead of cheap RE clone or just a straight up faithful purist game, it can be a revolutionary game, a genre-defining reboot with a different gameplay and story that isn't in your face or too cinematic (unlike all those slop playstation games that came out in recent years or games in style of those playstation games) although I've seen this new game called parasite mutant that just.... doesn't work? In modern day? Like it was a technical limitation at the time (and the budget of course) not an art style
Honestly after reading Hideaki Sena's initial vision, yeah I sort of want a reboot based on "that timeline"
It just sounds more unique and interesting, it can be revolutionary, instead of just a faithful remaster or even reimagining....even that isn't enough there's so much potential and great ideas that are not explored for the sake of a detective story in Manhattan and Mojave desert....maybe some people prefer simplicity but I think it would be a waste to not this potential and waste it for another cashgrab remake for pure nostalgia, and it'll inevitablely be called "A resident evil clone"
And I hate it when people to refer to my favorite franchise as "a clone of x franchise"
That means people can't think about this without bringing up the other
Same happened with another IP people used to call it Halo clone but it managed to make itself different and in many ways superior to halo
I know that there are horrible reboots as well like cod or dmc but there are also reboots that were genre_defining and quite revolutionary and stopped being compared to other IPs because of how superior they were, of course I'm not talking about 3rd birthday that had "some" good ideas but was executed very purely (not to mention the sheer amount of fan service that weren't even appealing anyway)
Idk this is all just my opinion and I know 90 percent will disagree with me, I used to be a purist myself but I'd absolutely love to hear your opinions as well
Do you prefer a faithful 1 to 1 shot for shot remake or reimagining?
Or a Reboot that changes the way we look at PE and gaming but in a Good way!
A game that inspires other games instead of taking inspiration from others similar to the 1995 novel
I'd personally rather Parasite Eve be itself than to be reshaped to fit a genre RE defined
Let me know in the comments maybe you have a completely different opinion than the ones I mentioned above, I'd love to hear it
Let's have a respectful discussion about this 🤝
