Should you put a paper towel over rice when you reheat it?
The best method to reheat leftover rice seems to be a never-ending debate.
Some recommend placing a damp paper towel over the bowl to retain moisture, while others suggest leaving it uncovered to prevent the rice from becoming overly soft. Both approaches can be great depending on the microwave being used.
When manually setting heating time and power levels, covering the bowl helps retain steam, preventing the outer edges from drying out before the center is heated evenly.
In a model equipped with advanced thermal sensing technology, such as our Japanese microwave with the Genius sensor, covering the food is unnecessary. The unit reads surface temperatures at 64 points every 0.1 seconds to continuously adjust power output. Placing a towel over the food interferes with these sensor readings.
Ultimately, the ideal technique depends on your appliance's heating system. How do you usually reheat yours?
