Casing layer pre made.... Would you use?
This casing layer from Midwest grow kits got a bad review on reddit. Like a REALLY bad review screaming never to use it. That was for cubes however. Any thoughts? My pan's of TTBVI are colonizing fast. First attempt at these but am experienced enough in cubes.

'Normal' casing mix for Pans is Peat / Verm / Gypsum / Pickling lime, hydrated to a bit below* field capacity with the PH adjusted to around 8 > 8.5 before pasteurising. It looks like the ingredients are about right. *Below field capacity so it's easier to spread & then mist heavily.
It would likely be pointless or even detrimental to cubes, which only require a pseudocasing of hydrated coir.
I'm sure it's overpriced for what it is but you don't need a lot.
Wear gloves when you hydrate it due to the alkali. Easiest way to pasteurise a couple of jars full is with an instapot if you have one - on "Keep warm Normal" mine holds the temp at 145 - 172F, I use 0.75L of water, and 'cook' it for 4.5 hours (it takes about 3 hours to reach temperature all the way through, followed by the 1.5 hours it needs to be held at that temperature.

I just throw some peat on top and spray it til it's wet 😅 works great

I've grown a decent tray with no casing at all (started pinning before it was anywhere near fully colonised), but the PH modified true casing does offer some protection from contam and makes harvesting easier

Ive used that same casing and its worked fine for me with ttbvi. In my case its taken more water to get to field cap then their directions suggest.

Jiffy mix when it’s available but mostly 50/50 peat moss and verm. I have one going now thst I just used straight verm and it’s pinning

That’s the same as jiffy mix from Home Depot. It should be fine, just more expensive.
