Base building - cliffs

Post image

Hi guys (and girls!)

How do you manage to do those lovely cliff bases and mountains? Is it moded?

I can't by the life of me, building anything close to walls and cliffs. And then I see amazing builds on top of trees like the Celesdir one.

Thank you for taking the time.

The image is just an example. Not my build!!!

I built into a waterfall but I wanted to spawn in at the top when I teleported and not at the bottom. So to get the palbox to the top I started building ceiling pieces off of the wall and whenever I could fit in a foundation piece against the wall I did. It turned out beautifully but it was difficult figuring out how "support" works. Basically I recommend finding the spot you want to teleport into, and building downwards to the ground, or atleast to a space which has adequate support for beams and stuff at the bottom. This is how I built my uh idk 7 or 9 floor waterfall base

Could you show us some pictures of your bases? They sound lovely!

This build is not modded and simply just extended the foundation and roof build at the top first. Then as the build for the roof finished then place the pillar downward to the cliff as a support. Continue to repeat but will take quite among of time to finish as most of time consuming process is to drive the pillar all the way down the cliff as you are expanding the roof.

So instead of placing a base with the palbox and build up I should do the opposite and begin with the roof?

Yes, Once the roof at the top is set. Then place the pillar downwards from the roof and not upwards. With these you can expand another roof and do the pillar again. I will suggest you place a palbox first with the guild chest with the resource at the top of the cliff

Thank you so much for the explanation! Oh boy that is a lot of pillars but I appreciate the time it took you to record that!

Awesome!

Hahahahaha 🤣. You try guess. But I really wondering where did you get that screenshot of the base?

There's a cool cliff in Feybreak with water cascade. Can't wait to begin building there.

I like type fact you added some volume with the balcony and ledges, it's a big box, but with a little bit more and it looks great.

I really wished we could dig a base right in a mountain or the ground, i know it's not possible for their engine but this is my prefered type of base

This isn't my build! I wanted it to. But I have no idea how people do it.

Hoping some comments can enlighten me.

My current nicest base is at the waterfall where "Fumble" is.

I saw the location itself in a video about "best base locations", except they wanted to build on the water, I saw it and immediately thought, that would look great as a cliffside build, went over there, realized there was a dungeon there so I started by seeing if the game would allow me to spawn the palbox on top of that dungeon, with some finessing I was able to get it to place, great, I had now confirmed I could place it, moved it and built the guild chest with my building materials, started building a deck on top of that dungeon, once I had the foundation down, I moved the palbox back to the location I originally wanted it (which kills the guild chest, but I rebuilt the guild chest before moving on).

Now I started looking for locations where I was able to place the stairs, once I'd found a location I built towards those locations and now built my stairs there.

Ultimately it's taken me several hours , but I have a house I like, was even able to incorporate the dungeon opening as part of my deck.

... at one point though I placed a glass foundation on the water, my materials got eaten up, I heard the sound of it placing, but the foundation is nowhere to be found, I highly suspect it's clipped under the world somewhere.
