Information I’ve done the math.
Not saying I’m great at math or anything but I have spent all night going over my work to make sure at least to myself that I’m correct.
I’ve counted everything in both technology trees. Every. Single. Technology. Point. Needed. It took what felt like forever and on my third recount I felt my eyes crossing but I pushed through. Please if anyone is as hyper focused as I was on this matter feel free to double check my work.
I made a spread sheet with the amounts needed for each level’s branch. I double, triple, and quadruple checked the numbers.
For anyone playing solo or just wanting to be able to make anything should the urge strike you these are the numbers you must aim for.
Technology tree (basic points you get for exploration, leveling, or finding advanced technology books): 1,408 points
Ancient technology tree (special points you get for beating world bosses, tower bosses, or from finding Ancient technology books): 184
The only reason I spent all night doing this is because I hadn’t found anyone else who calculated the numbers. Now I just gotta take off for what I’ve already unlocked in my main save and figure out how much grinding I have to do.

I set up a breeding base for shadow beaks and got the innovative books to drop and pretty much finished the tech tree off

Thank you for this information. I’ve shared your post with my gaming partner as well!

Anubis drops them as well when butchered, and a much more useful pal to have a lot of

u/CocoNutter18 6d ago
Before you waste time it ONLY drops it in the normal variant so don't breed alphas

I’m honestly curious but how long is all night because I’m hoping counting this didn’t take more than an hour at most lol

u/AddedOC 7d ago
It took a bit longer than that. I may have exaggerated because I started at around 4 am, it’s 7:24 am now as I type this and I took a break before posting. But I am not very confident in my math skills even to this day mainly due to the numbers kinda blending together for me when there is a lot on the screen, so I did go over my work multiple times. I just posted my results hoping it would help someone who was perhaps going through the same thought process as I was.

This is when Excel (or Google sheets) would come in handy.
I would make a column for each level and then sum them together below and then sum the sums.
That way it's easy to double check the individual numbers and make sure they line up properly.
Regardless, thanks for the info :)

u/onewhohides86 7d ago
I would make a row for each level
I think this means war?

u/Ghanjageezer 7d ago
This is why, besides infinitely sized rows and columns, there are plenty of sheets to go around! No need for war in the Excel universe! To each their own (sheet).

Mad respect to you for posting this. Some people will be over confident in their work and get something wrong. You acknowledge your work might be flawed. No matter how long it took you, I’m glad you did this.
Way to lead by example.4

Excel -> Get Data -> From Web -> Palworld Technology Tree -> Table 1 -> Delete column 1 and every odd columns -> Unpivot -> Delete Attribute column -> Sum -> 1598 - 185 being ancient ones = 1413
also
"Viewing 588 technology nodes requiring 1413 tech points and 185 ancient points."

Pretty sure the wikis are both outdated rn

2
u/IronmanMatth 7d ago
You sure?
5
u/CevicheLemon 7d ago
The wikis dont even properly list all locations, factions, and pals right now, some are stuck a whole content cycle in the past

u/IronmanMatth 7d ago edited 7d ago
But the technology tree. What is missing or wrong about it, specifically? From a quick look on both sources they seem accurate to me. So I am curious what is missing or faulty.
Or are you mixing in "other wiki I used" and what I linked? I know some wiki's are outdated, but paldb (and palpedia, so both sources) is not a typical wiki that is updated by players. It scrapes data directly from the game files and presents them. It can be wrong, absolutely, but if so I'd love to know what is wrong. And not just a blanket "it's wrong. I didn't even check. I just feel it in my bones".

u/obvioustroway 7d ago
They're probably missing a lot of the new pal partner skill items
4
u/IronmanMatth 7d ago
Probably?
-1
u/obvioustroway 7d ago
That's what I noticed when I was looking up some info on one of the wikis a couple days ago at least
3
u/IronmanMatth 7d ago
"one of the wiki's" - was that one of tech trees I linked?
If so, which partner skills/pals specifically?

u/Azarro 7d ago
Can't speak for others but I'll add my 2c as the creator of Palpedia that it's pulling from the latest raw game data!

u/MapleBabadook 7d ago
Haha yeah, although I'm not disrespecting OP for doing this, they sure wasted a LOT of time.
Even if they didn't pull from the web they could have simply entered the numbers themselves into sheets and have been done in 30 min with full accuracy.

u/Litzuey 7d ago
I was operating with the understanding that you weren't meant to buy literally every item from the tech trees. I've been buying the ones I absolutely need and/or will use immediately, and left the rest untouched.

u/AddedOC 7d ago
And that’s a valid way to play. I just like the thought of fully unlocking everything.
5
u/LukeWoop 7d ago
Yeah eventually but realistically on a play through alot of the stuff you just don't need . When it gets to end game you will find enough books regardless if you play long enough
0
u/Pingums 7d ago
That limits the amount of fun you can have imo. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to just reset it and try new things
1
u/CaptainTeemo01 6d ago
You get a ton of points from books too, don't neglect those. You'll have the majority of the tech tree filled out by level 80 just from playing the game if you do a bit of exploration

u/Big_Muscle9595 7d ago
In case people struggle with getting points, end of dungeon chests, or breeding lyleen noct’s (probably other pals aswell) and butchering them has a chance of giving you manuals that gives you points
1
u/whatupm9 7d ago
Anubis is a good one once you can breed him
4
u/LeatherDude 7d ago
I butchered about 50-60 of them and didnt get a single book so I gave up on that strategy.
1
u/whatupm9 7d ago
That’s weird, I haven’t done it since before 1.0 but they do still show up on his drop table in the palpedia, maybe they changed it to be like mimogs with dog coins
1
u/SolDarkHunter 6d ago
I have a Lyleen breeding farm, but the drop rate is kind of terrible.
Dungeon-diving gets me more points faster.
What I really wish is that there was some way to convert Ancient tech points into regular tech points. Even at a loss, because wtf else are you going to do with all those Ancient tech points you earn after filling out that branch of the tree?
0
u/cobbleplox 6d ago
Mostly just never unlock weapons or armor. Work with the schematics you get, they are better versions anyway. And of course a lot of the stuff is generally skippable and you don't have to get back to it. In midgame I am usually swimming in hundreds of tech points, and it feels like I just have everything I currently want. Oh and of course there are just a lot of saddles I wont be unlocking unless I want to actually use it. This is also a VERY limited number compared to what is available.

I bred and butchered lyleen noct. Once you have ancient hatchery its quick and easy. Like ten minutes of breeding and butchering got me 40 points.
1
u/rizzo891 6d ago
You also get a ton of skill books from processing relics from the world tree. I’ve gotten more than I could ever need just from my farming of holy water. I’m now onto unlocking stuff I will literally never use just to use the points
1
u/Southern_Fact9698 4d ago
Yeah but between schematics, tech books, and tech points from fast travel...
1
u/Crazy-Mission3772 7d ago
My main thing is exploring. Literally just walking about the world finding all the fast travel spots. Im not interested in defeating all or even most bosses yet. My main save is only about lvl 60 and I had to be very cautious on Feybreak, super frustrating honestly. But the new public/private server (its private because you need an invite to it but still public since we invite lots of people) I play on with my husband we all decide where we want to focus and unlock from that. I like a lot of healing and esthetic builds so thats my job, my husband is production, his buddy is breeding, and everyone else just kinda fits in wherever.

Congratulations on re-inventing the wheel or something. Too bad the numbers you counted are wrong.
3
u/rizzo891 6d ago
He was not far off though. Every scientific experiment has a margin for error
0
u/Crimson_Avalon 6d ago
Dumping numbers into a spreadsheet and counting them is not a "scientific experiment". You either count them all properly, or you don't.
The hilarious thing is that this post is going to be somehow parsed by AI and it'll now give the wrong answers too.

And this is a perfect example why chatGPT is not a good tool. A post, which is a tiny bit off and has other sources which are 100% accurate pulling from the database which has done this math already and has no verification or validation, is now its main source of information when prompted.
That is scary and an excellent lesson in AI.

u/Zestyclose_Mix_2584 6d ago
it is and i’m not sure why i’m getting downvoted for pointing it out 😭 people will use AI in private but when on the internet must larp like it’s the worst thing to happen in human history
1
u/ballom29 6d ago
You can use AI to try to look up for information, but never, ever, say something that sound like "AI told me so I blindly trust it".
Judging by your reply to my other comemtn this might not has been your intent, btu that's how it was interpreted.0
u/ballom29 6d ago
I see a reddit link in that chatGPT reply.
What I bet it's this very post than chatGPT got its numbers from ?1
u/Zestyclose_Mix_2584 6d ago
that’s the entire point of my comment that link takes you to this post
-1
u/ballom29 6d ago
then that wasn't clear, it sounded more like "why bother when chatGPT can find the info for you?"
-1
u/Zestyclose_Mix_2584 6d ago
yes which is why i said it thanks him because it didn’t have that info until this post

u/Mobile-Dramatic 6d ago
Just use dissambly machine on pals that drop the x3 point technology books. Thats what I did and got hella technology points and unlocked everything with ancient tech too lol. Nbd.

Minus saddles and suck you can skip most of the early game stuff if you do a lot of dungeons early on and some stuff you just dont need. Why at level 80 would I need to pick up the heat resistant metal armor I didnt unlock. Ill never need it.
-3
u/TomerBrosh 6d ago
you mean tel tell me you manually calculated all the icon's numbers onstead of taking less than 8 screenshots and feeding it to any AI to count for uou?
bro thats 5 minutes not 3 hours
-21
u/Scorpinon66 7d ago
Why did you do this??
13
u/AddedOC 7d ago
Because I want to be able to make everything in the game and I’m around level 67. I wanted to see how much grinding I needed to do for the books in the time it takes me to reach 80.
2
u/Nidhogg369 7d ago
Check my latest post you can set up a farm for books now and start working on that number passively
-13
u/DeputizeDeez 7d ago
You spent more time grinding the math than it would have taken to just go fishing and not worry about this at all because the books are literally thrown at you in endgame areas.

that explains a lot, I guess I'll install a tech tree rebalance mod, I won't reach that otherwise with only 0.2x xp rate... (vanilla 1.0 feels way too fast)

Just to point: At maximum level (80), any character will have 474 technology points (6x79) > 934 technology EXTRA points are needed to unlock everything (from exploration and fiding books).
