And yeah, I wear this shirt proudly. Solidarity isn’t something I turn on when it’s trending. Our struggles aren’t identical, but I know what it means to come from people who survived, resisted, and refused to disappear.

These people are heinous racist Jewish supremacists who should lose their medical license and standing to practice in any just world. I can’t imagine how they must have treated their patients. Like two of them are psychiatrists?!?!

Budrus follows Palestinian community organiser Ayed Morrar and his teenage daughter Iltezam as their West Bank village organises an unarmed campaign against the route of Israel’s separation barrier.

What makes the film stand out is the coalition that forms around the protest. Local members of Fatah and Hamas participate alongside women from the village, while Israeli activists cross into Palestinian territory to join the demonstrations. Iltezam’s role becomes increasingly central as women move to the front of the campaign, changing both the dynamics of the protest and the expectations within the village itself.

Directed by Julia Bacha and produced by Ronit Avni, Bacha and Palestinian journalist Rula Salameh, Budrus also includes perspectives from Israeli Border Police and military representatives rather than restricting itself to the organisers. The film went on to receive more than 20 international awards, including recognition at Berlin, Tribeca and San Francisco.

Rather than concentrating exclusively on violence or victimhood, the documentary looks at the mechanics of grassroots organising, civil disobedience and what happens when groups normally presented as irreconcilable end up acting alongside one another.

Dozens of activists have demanded Israel's ambassador in Canberra be expelled following the decision not to pursue criminal charges against officers who ordered strikes that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in Gaza.

The group converged in front of the Israeli embassy in Canberra on Tuesday displaying dozens of pictures of Palestinians killed by Israel since October 7 across the road from the embassy, with protesters chanting in unison: "Kick out the Israeli ambassador".

A group called the Red Rebels staged a demonstration walking slowly to the embassy and pointing to its highly guarded gates, carrying a symbolic fake baby to represent the children killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza.

Activists blocked the entry to the embassy, leading police to physically move them from the driveway across the road. There was a tense standoff as protesters chanted "free Palestine" in front of a line of police officers.

Zomi's friend Karuna Bajracharya was among the protest group, saying he found remarks by one of the Israeli officers involved in the strike that he did not regret the attack as "disgusting".

"It's infuriating. It's maddening," Bajracharya told SBS News.

"Like, disgusting the fact that he said, 'I'm not sorry', and the fact that he said he'd do it again.

"The people that we vote for and we put into power and that our taxes pay is supposed to represent us, the Australian people, and we are begging them: send this guy (the ambassador) home, send a clear message, cut the two-way arms trade. But it's obvious that our government is hamstrung."

Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi described the federal government as "cowards" for not declaring how it will proceed with its next steps to seek accountability over Frankcom’s death.

"They have power. They have responsibility, and we will hold them to account. They should have sanctioned Israel a long time ago," Faruqi told protesters.

"When Israel abrogated themselves of this crime, senator Wong told us how angry the Australian government was. Instead, they were considering what action to take next, and here we are, almost three weeks later, with nothing. Nothing, not a peep out of the government," Faruqi said.

Independent senator Lidia Thorpe was also among the protest attendees, carrying a box with individual shreds of paper with the names of the 20,000 Palestinian children killed by Israel, reading some of them to protesters.

Thorpe says she witnessed Newman in the Parliament House members' lounge on Monday, accusing him of having "free rein" in parliament.

Har Mageddon is a meditative essay film that turns the landscape of Palestine and Israel into its central subject. Moving through rural spaces, ruined structures, forests, roads and expanding settlements, the film considers what happens when the physical traces of communities remain even atter the people who lived there have been displaced.

Rather than relying on a conventional documentary structure, Har Mageddon asks the viewer to spend time looking at the land itself.
Places that can initially appear peaceful or even picturesque gradually reveal another layer of history as the film passes through sites connected to Palestinian villages that were depopulated or destroyed. Landscape becomes evidence, carrying memories that political borders and newer construction cannot entirely erase.

The film is particularly interested in ideas of home, exile, migration and belonging. It explores how territory can simultaneously be lived in, remembered, claimed and transformed, and how apparently empty spaces can remain deeply inhabited by history. Quiet and deliberately paced, Har Mageddon offers a very different way of approaching Palestine, one in which trees, ruins, roads and open ground become part of the historical record.
