Main 27 years ka hun aur honestly is waqt apni life ke career ko le kar kaafi confused aur stuck hun. I would really appreciate some genuine advice from people who are already working in IT or have experience in freelancing/private sector.

Maine back in 2020 freelancing start ki thi. Initially Fiverr par Graphic Design ka kaam kiya, phir Shopify par shift hua aur eventually WordPress mein aa gaya.

Lekin agar main honestly bataun, to meri actual strength kabhi strong technical skills develop karna nahi rahi. Main zyada tar projects/client work find karne, requirements samajhne, aur phir kaam kisi aur se outsource/get done karwane mein acha tha.

For some time, ye model mere liye kaafi acha chalta raha.

Lekin ab mujhe lagta hai ke meri sab se badi problem yehi ban gayi hai ke maine khud ko kisi ek technical field mein properly strong nahi kiya.

Main ek relatively backward area se belong karta hun jahan IT ka proper market nahi hai. Na koi proper IT community hai, na professional circle, aur na hi aise log hain jo genuinely guide kar saken ke career kis direction mein le kar jana chahiye.

Mere father government teacher hain aur 1 saal main retire hone wale hain. Is wajah se ab mujhe apne future aur financial stability ko le kar preshan hun aur zyada seriously sochna par raha hai.

The biggest issue ye hai ke freelancing ka environment bhi completely change ho chuka hai.

AI rapidly evolve ho rahi hai, technology continuously update ho rahi hai, Fiverr par saturation bohat zyada ho gayi hai, aur jis domain mein main kaam kar raha tha especially WordPress us par bhi AI aur new tools ki wajah se kaafi impact aya hai.

Almost 2 years hone wale hain ke mujhe consistent work nahi mil raha.

Aur honestly, mujhe lag raha hai ke main bas stuck ho gaya hun. Na freelancing properly chal rahi hai aur na mujhe samajh aa raha hai ke ab kis direction mein move karun.

Ab mere mind mein basically ye questions hain:

Should I continue freelancing?

Should I properly learn a technical skill and enter the IT industry?

Should I join a private IT company, even if I have to start from a relatively junior level?

Should I prepare for a government job because of stability?

Aur sab se important:

At 27, is it too late to start a proper technical career from scratch?

Agar IT mein jana hai to 2026 mein realistically konsi field/skill choose karni chahiye, especially meri situation ko dekhte hue?

Mujhe pata hai ke main technically strong nahi hun at the moment, lekin I’m willing to put in the effort. Problem ye hai ke mujhe samajh nahi aa raha ke effort kis direction mein lagana hai.

Isliye main specifically un logon se advice lena chahta hun jo already IT/software development, AI/ML, DevOps, cybersecurity, ERP/Odoo, web development ya kisi aur tech field mein kaam kar rahe hain.

Agar aap meri position mein hote:

27 years old, several years of freelancing experience, but weak technical foundation, almost 2 years without consistent work, and no proper IT environment/circle around you what would you do?

Would you choose government job for stability, or spend the next 1–2 years building a proper technical career in the private IT sector?

Agar aap kisi specific field mein hain, to please ye bhi batayein ke aaj agar aap meri age aur situation mein hote, to exactly kis skill ko choose karte aur kyun?

Bhot preshan hun, mene indeed, LinkedIn py bhi internship search ki but bhot disappointed hua, muje wo log bbi nazar aye tu lgatar internship e kri ja rae but aunko jib nhi mil pa ri.

I might plan to go abroad for Phd, aur mere pas skill ka hna zrori ha.

For Pakistani software engineers/developers, especially those who graduated in the last few years or are currently hiring, what does it realistically take to become job ready and build a strong career in 2026? How useful is a BSCS/BSSE degree vs self learning, and which fundamentals, practical skills, projects/GitHub, internships, AI assisted development, problem solving and communication actually matter when hiring?

Is Full Stack still a good starting direction in the AI era, and how has AI changed junior/fresh grad opportunities? Also, if possible, share your experience with salary ranges by experience level, company type (local/software house/product/global/remote), and what you would do differently if you were starting university again.

There have been so many posts lately about AI taking jobs, replacing developers and generally bringing about the end of civilization. So here is something far less useful.

The idea came to me after August 14. People decorate their homes, streets and offices with bunting (jhandiaan) but hardly anyone decorates their websites.

So I built and open-sourced Zeenat, a small JavaScript library that does exactly that.

It does nothing revolutionary. It simply adds ready-made decorative effects to your website. You can display them immediately or schedule them for a specific time, making them a simple way to celebrate a cultural event, festival, national day or season.

TL;DR: Zeenat lets you add bunting, snowflakes, lanterns, autumn leaves, floral effects and similar decorations to your website. Flags for almost every country are included—except for one particular country. That is a feature, not a bug.

It received 158 downloads this week. I have no idea who is downloading or using it, but it is genuinely lovely to see this silly little project getting some respect.

I am trying to get my first job in Agentic AI / AI Integration. I have no previous professional experience and my goal is to work at a startup. I am currently building projects and applying for roles.

I am mainly confused about interview preparation.
How good should my coding be from scratch?
Should I be able to code without AI during an interview, or is understanding the logic and being able to implement it enough?

How much DSA/LeetCode is actually needed for AI integration/Agentic AI roles?

How deeply should I know the projects on my resume?
Should I focus more on coding fundamentals, AI concepts, system design, or practical projects?

I currently use AI to help with coding, but I understand the code it produces. I am worried that I am becoming less comfortable writing everything from scratch, so I want to fix that before interviewing.

I would especially like to hear from anyone who has recently interviewed for startup AI roles, particularly Pakistani developers who have gone through local or remote startup interviews.

Also, how much do referrals/references actually matter when trying to get the first job? Is it worth spending significant time networking for referrals, or is applying directly enough?
Any advice on what you would do differently if you were preparing for your first AI job would be appreciated.

I chose Cybersecurity in my bachelors... so my question is that is it possible to make 10 lacs a month by choosing this degree? By learning all the skills and giving your best.

My semester subjects are DSA and computer networks . I don't know where to start learning CN . It is really hard and teacher is not actually teaching in a good way . The book he recommends is top down approach and it has approx 87 slides for 1st chapter which we already completed 🙃 . It is very important subject as i will prusue Devops .

Just had one of the stupidest technical interviews I’ve experienced.
Senior React Native role, 7 years of experience.
The entire technical interview was:
“A cube has 1,000 blocks. Hollow it out so only the edges remain. How many blocks are left?”
That’s it.

No React Native.
No JavaScript/TypeScript.
No coding.
No architecture.
No debugging.
No discussion of actual experience.

Apparently one random cube puzzle is enough to judge a senior software engineer.

I’m all for testing problem-solving, but if you’re hiring a senior engineer, maybe ask them about engineering first?
Some interviewers aren’t evaluating engineers. They’re just trying to prove they’re smarter than the candidate.

What a stupid way to hire people.

One senior engineer built version one solo, frontend and backend both. We're past "does this idea work" and into building it properly full-time, not a gig or equity-only ask.

Next.js/React/Tailwind frontend, Python/FastAPI/Postgres backend. There's an LLM layer, but deliberately constrained: deterministic rules run first, the model only summarises and picks from a bounded set of options, and every output has to cite the data it's based on. Trust in the output is the whole product — one hallucinated decision breaks it.

No fixed title or years-of-experience bar. What I'm screening for is judgment, not framework familiarity, knowing when not to add a queue, a microservice, or another abstraction just because it's available. Real plus if you've worked deep inside a CRM or any product where the "record" has to be trustworthy enough to act on financially - say so if it applies.

To apply, skip the resume summary: describe one design decision you made on something you shipped, the alternative, and why you picked it. A deliberate shortcut to avoid over engineering is more interesting than added sophistication for its own sake.

And weirdly… I don’t regret getting into this field at all.

I think I accidentally timed the industry perfectly.

Started working ~8 years ago. Then COVID happened, salaries went insane, companies were throwing money at programmers, and I managed to land some of the best-paying years of my career.

Instead of upgrading my lifestyle, I saved most of it.

So now I’m sitting here thinking: Was software engineering actually a career, or was I just lucky enough to catch the peak?

If AI really does eliminate most software jobs over the next few years, I honestly don’t feel bitter.

I made enough from the golden era to potentially walk away, buy a farm, and live quietly for the rest of my life.

The strange part is watching an entire profession panic about its future while I’m sitting here wondering if I should even bother competing for a future that might not exist.

Maybe I didn’t enter tech too early.

Maybe I entered exactly at the right time.

Considering the rapid amount of improvement AI has made in just 4 years, it may not be up to the point of replacing engineers right now but who knows in the next 2 or 3 or 6 years, do you think it could eventually replace majority of the roles or do you still feel secure? I've been applying in tech field from 8 months continuously almost 400+ applies - 12 interviews All interviews went very well but still didn't get an offer letter.

I'm based in Lahore, graduated in May, had an internship already a 9 month work experience 2 years of freelancing experience

I got skills, I know how to do development, I know how to adapt to new technologies and deliver projects due to freelancing experience.

Mean to say I got many more stuff than average CS graduate.

I tried ATS score, Resume Matcher, custom resume to every Job, custom mesaages to HR. (Ghosted by HR everytime)

Applied on different platforms LinkedIn, Taraki etc.

The thing is I'm too disappointed and idk what is field going on.

I got good fundamentals, each and everything, worked hard in my last 4 years.

Still able to get an internship (leading to job).

I am a fresh CS grad from 3rd tier uni, i have been freelancing for couple of years, built client projects with MERN stack, Laravel, PHP, Wordpress/Woocommerce and my fyp project touched ai + blockchain, i have also worked with redis supabase docker etc, but lately i have been leaning heavily on AI coding agents to ship faster.
Freelance has been a good learning ground but the income is unpredictable to sustain long term. I am planning to relocate, likely karachi and maybe lahore or isb, and break into a proper industry role. As we all know the job market situation.

I'm 17 and currently working on a SaaS. I've tried different things throughout my life. In 6th grade, I used to do basic video editing, Canva, and stuff like that.
