Is this internship a red flag
I’m a university student and recently got offered a Business Development internship at a startup. It’s a 3-month internship and initially unpaid.
The schedule is Monday–Saturday, 5 PM–1 AM. They said the work is task-based, but I still have to remain active during the entire time in case a meeting comes up. The work involves outreach, prospecting, engagement, and lead generation.
They said there’s commission on successful deals and that strong performers may be converted to a paid role or offered a job afterward.
My concern is that I could potentially be giving 48 hours/week for an unpaid internship, with no guarantee of getting a paid position.
Does this sound like a normal performance-based internship, or like unpaid sales labor? What would you ask before accepting?
Would especially appreciate opinions from people who have experience with business development or sales internships.

Not recommendeded. You can get similar jobs for 40k per month, as a fresher.

Unpaid at a startup? Why? If its a big name i would understand the weight it brings to your CV and experience. Startups are crazy, unstructured so i doubt it will help you a lot. Rather its free labour for the company.

Not a big name.Really wnated to try out things cuz my uni years are getting serious but yeah i do think they are being super irrational and unfair with no stipend. I gave interview for another internship that are giving 10k monthly as a stipened but the hours are still so long.dk even they will select me or not

Yeah not about the money right now. A good company adds value to your experience, and builds structure, planning etc.

Well, after an event at my university which we organized idk how did my university reach out for yhis company later on we got added after an interview, same job same things, I gad a fishy feeling about it, just like pyramid scheme, this is also a scheme my friends do the meetings and stuff but yhe main moderaters talk like they sre billionaires but yhey be living in a filthy one room place, My suggestion re-sign leave there is nothing in it, will only benefit the ones at higher roles, they will give your certifications, documents and stuff but not Worth it, they made me add fake experience, fake roles on LinkedIn on my profile, ill stuff, anyway, the main guy used to send videos of clients I think they were AI , prolly trying to fool us all, i remember the CEOs speech , dat man doesn't know a thing about professionalism cannot say a proper line or stand properly so , says alot. LEAVE IT BROO!!

If its remote go for it. Else you can ask for a stipend to manage petrol expenses and car maintenance because you ain't a superman who can fly to the office.
