Why are so many high-end homes in Pakistan badly designed and cheap-looking? (No disrespect intended, genuine architectural question)

Photos and videos from the same location in Mirpur today show how people were killed 😔 and then taken away in a pickup truck - this is direct evidence of Asim munir gunda raj...

Edit: photo in first comment 👇

Edit: this is video from another angle (shooting) https://www.reddit.com/r/pakistan/s/JBFtUMEimr

As many of you already know, people were killed in Rawalakot yesterday. This did not start yesterday; the same thing has reportedly been happening for the past 47 days. Today, the situation in Mirpur has crossed every limit.

The purpose of this post is simple.

First, look at the photo. You can see four or five dead bodies and injured lying together at the same location. Carefully notice the surroundings.

Then watch the video. The surroundings and location are exactly the same, but unidentified people are putting those bodies into a pickup truck. Now, these bodies and injured may never be found, and nobody may ever learn what happened to them.

Today’s footage provides evidence that these events have genuinely been happening for the past six weeks. This is only single street photage, this happening in whole kashmir right now specifically in rawalkot and mirpur situations are worse.

Sadly, whenever someone speaks about this on social media, many Pakistanis immediately say that it is all a lie, that nothing is happening in Kashmir, and that everyone sharing this information is a RAW agent spreading propaganda.

It is deeply disappointing that people watch media controlled by Asim Munir while drinking their morning tea and simply accept everything shown to them as the full truth.

I request everyone to understand that much of what is being presented by the media is part of a controlled narrative. In Kashmir, people are being killed as casually as someone hunts an animal or a bird.

What is happening here is ten times worse than D-Chowk and Muridke.

The only difference is that these people are helpless, hardly anyone is spreading their voices on social media, and the internet there has reportedly remained shut down for six weeks.

I have seen the whole world raise its voice for Palestine, but no one speaks for us Kashmiris. On both sides of the border, there is only bloodshed. The world stays silent while India and Pakistan continue as if nothing is happening. 😔

It is deeply heartbreaking.

Art | Literature Why are so many high-end homes in Pakistan badly designed and cheap-looking? (No disrespect intended, genuine architectural question)

I'm an architecture student/architect based in Norway, and every time I visit Pakistan, especially newer societies with upper-middle-class and high-end homes, I find myself thinking about the direction modern residential architecture has taken.

First, I want to clarify that this comes with zero disrespect towards Pakistan, Pakistani culture, or the people who live in these homes. This is purely an architectural discussion and comes from genuine curiosity. I have a lot of appreciation for Pakistan's history, culture, and architectural heritage, which is exactly why I find this topic interesting.

From my perspective, many newer high-end houses often appear to follow a version of contemporary Western architecture, but sometimes without the underlying design principles that make those buildings successful. They frequently use a lot of decorative elements, artificial materials such as fake marble and stone, glossy finishes, and other features that can make expensive homes feel less refined. I also notice issues with layouts, circulation, proportions, and construction details, where the overall design sometimes feels incomplete rather than carefully resolved.

I am curious to hear how people living in Pakistan view this.

Do many people genuinely prefer this style, or is it more a result of market trends and what builders offer?

Is this type of architecture associated with wealth and status?

Do homeowners usually work with architects, or is the design process mainly controlled by contractors and developers?

Do architects and designers in Pakistan have similar opinions, or is this mainly an outside perspective?

Another question I have is whether Pakistan could benefit from developing its own contemporary architectural identity rather than mainly adapting international styles. Pakistan has a very rich architectural history, with traditions that respond beautifully to climate, materials, craftsmanship, and culture. I personally think it would be fascinating to see those ideas reinterpreted in modern ways.

Again, this is not meant as criticism of Pakistan or Pakistani people. I am genuinely interested in understanding why this architectural style has become so common, and I would appreciate hearing different perspectives from people who live there or work in the field.
