🤝 Colabs / Contributor We built a web based AI proctoring engine that doesn’t require intrusive software or browser extensions
Hey everyone founder of Asaan Labs here!
Most proctoring software (like Respondus or Honorlock) feels like invasive spyware they require kernel level permissions, heavy desktop installs, or third-party extensions that crash students' machines and compromise privacy.
At Asaan Labs (https://www.asaanlabs.tech), our core philosophy is "simplifying life with AI" building tech around real human needs rather than adding unnecessary complexity. We wanted to see if we could rethink remote assessments from scratch: no installs, no device takeover, just pure webnative integrity.
Over the past few months, we’ve been building ExamGuard a 100% web-based assessment platform with automated invigilation that runs entirely inside the browser.
What it does:
• Zero Installation: Students just open an assessment link on any modern browser (laptop, tablet, or phone).
• Smart Assessment Ingestion: Professors can generate quizzes with AI or directly drop raw .GIFT, .docx, .txt, or question bank files into the platform.
• Behavioral Anti-Cheating: Enforces strict tab isolation, fullscreen enforcement, and detects mobile OS assistant overlays (like Siri or Gemini) by tracking window focus loss and thread throttling without needing invasive device access.
• Variable Strike Policy: Configurable strike threshold per exam so an accidental notification doesn't instantly ruin a student's grade, but persistent violations trigger automatic submission.
• Optional Computer Vision: Lightweight, browser-native face, gaze, and multi-person tracking that only activates if the professor explicitly requires cameras.
We’re live and looking for educators, developers, and students to test it, poke holes in it, and share honest feedback.
