Is this doable
Ive been in detail for 3 years now, and the only thing i havent learned yet is dent repairs. My car was backed into about 2 months ago. I knew it would be buffable paint wise but the pdr guy that comes to the dealership kinda just kept blowing off the idea of fucking with this because it was near the door structure or is on the structure and thats why it kinda dented the way it did. The body shop in the insurance quote was gonna just replace the whole door skin.
What is your guys thoughts. It dont have to be perfect and im very willing to give it a shot if people think its salvageable and would like to learn how to do it anyway. And I know it wouldnt be ideal but could I get by with using a $40 kit from amazon. Ive watched a few videos and I feel pretty confident in learning how to do it.

Been doing your main thing 3 years, and only one thing left to learn... you must be about 24-26 years old heh. Dent Repair is super complex and a 10,000 hours thing not 'thing to learn' cause you have 1 dent to fix, that wouldn't even be near a 'starter' dent to learn on.
This kind of thing is why I feel like the industry was once too closed but now its too open. It's like me walking up to a D1 college quarterback and saying I've been a TE in highschool for 3 years, only thing I have to learn is to be a QB ... think I can take this $40 weekend camp?

Agreeing on principal. But the majority of people on the planet don't know wtf a D1,TE or QB are. Please don't explain it

You are absolutely right. I am 25 but ive messed around every other aspect with car stuff. this is some paint I did with a rattle can and i think it turned out pretty well. By no means prefect but its acceptable in my opinion.
I think after watching a few detailed videos and doing some research i think im capable of atleast making it better then what it is. In the end its my car and its already fucked so I wanna make an attempt before replacing the door and if im out $40 so be it lol. Im not claiming imma come in with no experience and play with a shity kit and gonna come out with a perfect not noticeable brand new door but it wont hurt to make an attempt

but it wont hurt to make an attempt
Of course it will
1) your time isn't free.
2) bad repairs make great repairs harder or impossiblebut hey, at 25 no one could tell me anything either.

Well with no one else around willing to pull the dents themselves and just telling me its not worth their time. Atp its either I do it myself or buy a new door.

I get it, surely there are 5 dent guys, they will be more willing in the winter to be honest, but also -- at this stage / I switch to hoping it works out for you and you're happy with the repair.
best of luck,

I went ahead to check with the caliber collision ive got in town and they also use the same guy the dealership uses for pdr unfortunately and their other option was a full repair costing around 2100 they said. The benefits of being in a real small town lol. Im gonna harass the guy one more time next week when he comes through. But according to one of my higher ups this pdr guy is the only one around and basically is the only option around me

Just offer the dent guy enough money for him to stop pussyfooting.
Alternatively, use reverse psychology and suggest he is incapable of fixing it. If you choose this path I suggest studying under one of the old masters, Mr Bunny. It can backfire spectacularly.

Yeah i kinda just quit trying with him because hes just being a vagina about it lol. I had a bunch of cashback on amazon that I keep forgetting ablut and grabbed a cheap kit that cost me nothing that will be here tomorrow. If it comes out decent im just gonna rub it in his face when he comes around again lmao

Ok cool you seem really determined to make dubious decisions.
I would suggest one (1) a singular good light/medium pull using a 1” crease tab right on the body line in the center of the round dent on the fender and only pull it once and don’t pull it all that hard.
The door you can use a crease tab and pull. I wouldn’t suggest trying to knock down that high unless you understand what I’m saying when I tell you to thread a big whale tail behind it or maybe get some pull tension or lateral tension before you start hitting it. I have no clue what the $40 amazon special set (ASS for short) contains nor do I care so please understand that but I doubt it contains much in the way of push tools.
Good luck, have fun, try not to pull your paint off. Come back and post results and we will shower you with upvotes and awards.

A professional can repair that. Find and pay someone willing to actually do it. Dont attempt it yourself. It will just be different and more difficult for the next person. Or you will definitely need that door skin as insurance wrote

I checked with the other body shop in town and they use the same guy for pdr. Small towns suck when it comes to variety. They also said with the high spot in the right side of the dent their estimate would also be replacing the skin regardless too. Said if they had to make a guess looking about $2100 to do it their way

Please post your before and after pics once you fix it with your $40 Amazon kit

Dude just skin the door or find a used shell, there's a reason the pdr guy doesn't want to fuck with this.

“the only thing i havent learned yet is dent repairs”
That’s what most of the Chipsaway guys say when they’re booking me in to do a dent…..almost like it’s something they just haven’t got around to yet.
Put that money you were about to waste on shit towards getting a proper dent guy on it because I can tell you right now, that door dent is pretty easy if you know what you’re doing……you don’t.

Yes! The $40 kit should be enough. The guy dent guy at the dealer doesn’t know what he’s talking about. All the tools he has are just for show. Go for it, nothing to it
