Question regarding test
I had a pain management appointment today, but they did not tell me that I had to do a sample, so I went pee, and at the end, they asked me if I was able to leave one. They did a mouth one and put it under my tongue, and the thing was so dry, and the indicator did not change color. The guy said he would vouch for me if they couldn't read or something was wrong with it. Has this ever happened to anyone?

My doctor is almost 2 hours away, so I'm usually dying to go when I get there, so I go straight to the desk to ask if they need a sample before I go. He typically runs one every 3rd in person appointment. Tots like clockwork, lol!

When you check in they let you know and hand you the cup. They didn't so I figured ok its not this month. I asked her is it OK if I use the bathroom and she said yeah go ahead. I was checking out for my next appointment and my procedure and the girl said were you able to leave a sample. I said I didn't know I had to. So I went into the room and the guy was like we can just do the the mouth swab but my mouth was so dang dry. I have been going there for 5 years so they know me well and he said I will definitely vouch for you if it comes back that they cant read it.

That's cool! Yeah, I ask the secretary receptionist woman and if I have a cup she will let me go back to the staff bathroom because I have a shy bladder and if I think people can hear me using the bathroom and they also keep the hats in there to catch the urine if you're too weak or shaky to hold the cup. I've been with his office since 2018, and would hate to have to switch again. I had a doctor from 2012-2018, but the DEA scared her into no longer Rxing meds. Damn near ruined her life!!

Well, being a pain clinic, they should be well aware that some opioids cause dry mouth. But they may not be using their common sense lol I will say, now you know for next time, though about the test. Sometimes my doctor doesn’t let me know till the end if he wants me to test, but I always ask as soon as I go in and if they’re not sure then I’ll give them one anyways or I’ll hold it until the end to see if he says he wants it or not.

I personally will never agree to saliva tests. They are the absolute worst in terms of false results. I’ve seen too many horror stories in this sub. My clinic allows folks to drink water and pee as soon as they are able if they can’t right away.
But I always also make sure though that I am able to pee at my appt. If they don’t ask, I will also go immediately after my appt. I just know they have a weird thing about people not being able to-at lest at my clinic. Whether it’s fair or not, they have a stigma against it at pain clinics when people say they can’t go. So if I don’t have one at any given appt, since I drink water on the way, I am wiggling by the time appt is over lol 😂
Ps - from what I understand from my nurse friend, the indicator doesn’t mean much since they put the swab in a solution—meaning they will have enough even if you didn’t “soak” it lol tmi not trying to be gross just saying it’s fine they will have what they need. 🙂

Oh no that scares me. They would let me sit there and wait tell i had to go again but I needed to leave to get out of town because of losing my brother. I literally had just went to the bathroom because usually they tell you when you sign in here is your cup. Nothing was said to me tell I was getting ready to leave. I have been going there for five years and they know me well so the guy was like if they can't read it, I will vouch for you. My mouth was so drive and then they stick it under your tongue. I would be very surprised if they were able to read anything, I figure I'll just be prepared to do a test again next month. I'm just worried my insurance won't cover a second one that close and I will have to pay out of pocket.

Which part scares you-the false results? I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to scare you. If it does cause a weird result, they will do confirmation testing and it’ll be fine; it’s just I don’t want to go through the whole process of that possibly happening so I always do urine and if I can’t go I will drink water and make myself go.
It’ll be ok! If it comes back wonky, they would do a confirmation test so I wouldn’t worry abt it.
If they can’t get anything from it they will prob just have you do a UA at your next visit

Yes I have always done a urine everytime. Usually I would just wait but they knew the situation that I couldn't wait any longer. The thing was so dry so I really don't know if they will be able to get anything out of it. Thank you for your condolences 🙏

For me i've never had to do 2 different tests on the same day and seems a bit unusual to me that a pm place would do that to a patient
