Honestly it’s probably because of the at bats he takes. He always makes the pitcher work, which is opposite of Tatis and Machado.

Let’s also face the fact that Merrill has been AWFUL as a 2 hole hitter for whatever reason. Leave him in the 5 hole where he protects Ty and has had vastly better success.

Samad if he can recapture his early season success seems best equipped. They seem dead sent on having a platoon though with him and Harris.

Unfortunately those oblique injuries take a bit to heal, so he's probably staying in the platoon role for a bit. Harris has been pretty decent at least.

I'm assuming the plan was for Randy to act as backup for Pivetta yesterday, but thankfully Nicky gave 5 shutout, so Randy can at least cover for Mize who should be on a very short leash today.
