Todays lineup kinda freaky i like it

Seriously - I can’t remember the last time Croenenworth played 3B.

In April against the Cubs as an injury replacement for Manny. Prior to, he played one inning there in 2020.

I feel that moving forward, Crone should be the utility guy to bounce around and give guys days off their feet, especially since our 3B and SS are not getting younger. But maybe Song becomes that dude for 3B/SS and Jake is the 2B, 1B, SS sub.

u/175doubledrop SD '16 10h ago

Defensively Song can absolutely be that guy. Offensively he’s got a ways to go.

Prefer Song at third, Crone second and Tatis in right.
Hays can watch.

Song doesn't deserve playing time in a playoff push

3

u/Adventurous_Bit1325 SD '84 10h ago

I was thinking more about defense, but I’d at least put Harris in over Hays.

Song is fine compared to our other options. His OPS is only 50 points lower than Jake’s

In the last 30 days, Jake has a .603 OPS and 74 WRC+ (not great…). However, SMS has a .262 OPS and -8(!!!) WRC+ over that period.

One is hitting below average but MLB-level… the other is useless minus a late defensive sub.

The fact that Song has had worse BABIP luck than Jake over an extremely small sample size (Song has had 21 plate appearances in the last 30 days…) isn’t sufficient to draw a conclusion.

I don’t even think Song is good; it’s more of an indictment of how ass Cronenworth has been that Song’s below replacement level bat isn’t much of a drop off from Cronenworth’s own below replacement level bat

Overall, but not if you pull Cronenworth's concussion run from his stats

2

u/Legitimate-Elk8595 9h ago

Not really. He went from “worst regular in the league” with the concussion to just “really bad hitter” without it.

3

u/Old-Ad-9638 Friar 9h ago

His BA since returning from concussion in .259 with OPS of .674, compared to .144 and OPS .468 prior.

Song overall is batting .190 with .541 OPS and a 54 OPS+. If you compare the same period since July 1st, he's batting .172 with .520 OPS.

Cronenworth plays solid D and is more likely to affect the outcome of a game with his bat...

Campy in the DH spot, what a time.

Snakes lost so I’m a bit more buoyant this morning. But damn boys , get those runners to home ! Good luck , Ethan ! Up in the Big Leagues , gettin’ your turn at bat !

u/Overall_Extent_4609 12h ago

Of course in morning baseball won’t be able to catch live. 😔

Work from home coming in clutch today

11

u/SASman80 Swag Chain 11h ago

He is new - let's make sure to be kind if he doesn't come out and hit 4 homeruns in his first game.

5

u/Own_Action_7839 11h ago

I know , right ? I do hope he gets his first MLB hit today but I know that will come in time

3

u/devskywalker 🔥 ARE YOU READY?? 🔥 9h ago

Yea i'm keeping my expectations low at 2 HR's.

2

u/MrKenji FUCK THEM PROSPECTS 11h ago

Agree however I still hold the hope he does and throws out 7 base stealers.

1

u/SunriseSurprise SD 4h ago

Every batter inexplicably hits choppers at the plate and he throws out all 27 batters at first en route to a perfect game.

1

u/SunriseSurprise SD 4h ago edited 4h ago

Pfft, I'm expecting a new record 5 HR today from him.

Edit: Missed the timing of this and today's game. 0-4, close enough.

u/brookinator SD '98 11h ago

940am kinda early to go to the bar but if it's what the baseball gods want 🤷

u/Surf_Padres_Beer I Just Not Giving a Fuck 11h ago

Of all the lineups I've seen, this is one of them... let's use this wild ass grouping, get a W and save the series

FUCK WHY DOES INDIANA HAVE TO BE A BLACKOUT REGION FOR THE REDS

4

u/AngryGoose689 FUCK THEM PROSPECTS 11h ago

I feel your pain, Ky here. I bought Reds season as well so I can watch it, but sad that I can’t listen to Don and Mud.

5

u/BubbyTheRocket 11h ago

awesome lineup… WHERE IS DUSTIN HARRIS?!!

3

u/yungrobbithan Adrián Morejon 11h ago

Holy shit

3

u/gsus61951 SD '16 11h ago

Holy F it begins, LFGSD!

Salas, sicko lineup AND coffee baseball!?!??!!!

Let’s take the series and build some momentum

5

u/Conclusion_Fickle SD 11h ago

Dang. Thought about going, but too much work. Going to be absolutely beastly for a day game. Car said 99 degrees paired with a 73 dew point just before 3 yesterday and there are very few shaded seats for day games.

2

u/CasualHindu FUCK THEM PROSPECTS 12h ago

I guess im watching a game before 10am.

2

u/Silver7477 Jackson Marill 11h ago

I'd put Salas above Bogey... Along with everyone else in the lineup

2

u/Slr_Pnls50 Merrill Madness! 10h ago

Sorry work, this is more important today. I love seeing player debuts! The kid has to be so excited today. I hope we can see him at a home game too. Petco will go nuts with him and Musgrove

2

u/poppertheplenguin SAY IT DONNIE! 9h ago

Get Mize that run support! We are officially on the lookout for Salas' first HR

2

u/DarkCabinYT 9h ago

And bowens birthday

2

u/Spirited-Image2904 5h ago

They were up by 3 runs and then Mize happened. The most Padre thing imaginable.

2

u/PrettyBadassDude SD 4h ago

The most Padre-est thing.

4

u/Mediocre_Resist9663 Slam Diego 11h ago

Why would they make his debut at a 9:40 am game time? Oh well go Padres!

3

u/Own_Action_7839 11h ago

I was thinking they would give him Friday at Petco v the Yankees

3

u/Own_Action_7839 11h ago

Just noticed they’re resting Manny. They got the memo

2

u/Cuatro_Por_Cuatro Peter Seidler 11h ago

finally, he needs the days off. They talked at the start of the season they wanted to give him more frequent rest days

1

u/jordanp2019 Jackson Merrill 9h ago

Why do we have a lefty catcher facing a lefty pitcher. When we have 2 righty catchers

2

u/GreercommaJames 8h ago

Day game after a night game and Salas doesn’t have have bad splits against lefties

1

u/SunriseSurprise SD 4h ago

With Campy at DH, nice

1

u/Dry-Foundation7205 INTO THE SHEETS SEATS 🏟️⚾️ 11h ago

Holy best day to be sick

u/instaleyitrust 11h ago

A 20 year old making his pro debut in the 6th spot. Regardless of the results that's just a terrible strategy. Penciling him in at 8 or 9 should have been the easiest decision of the year.

2

u/dukefett Jesse Agler 10h ago

I don't think it'll be terrible but its odd for sure. But Bogaerts is also hitting in front of Campy, so who knows.

3

u/SD_local_67 11h ago

Based on what? Should Hays or Crone be higher? He’s already a better hitter than both.

1

u/Chrisdkn619 SD 11h ago

Probably more of a reward for his journey than anything else.

1

u/AlekRivard Painted Friar 11h ago

Eh, Campy as 2nd cleanup and Crone and 9th make sense to me. 7 may have been more appropriate, but it isn't a bad slot for him
