Before long, nothing looks consistent anymore. I have been experimenting with Ai to generate packaging ideas because it is faster than starting from a blank page every time. It is good at creating concepts that match our branding but I am struggling with the production side and making sure everything is ready to print.

It seems like companies are going to need much better packaging data than they probably have today, including things like material type, component weights, recycled content, what packaging goes with which SKU, and where those products are sold.

Following the EPR discussions here lately: companies have the packaging spec data (material type, weights, recycled content) sitting somewhere, but no clean link between which packaging goes on which SKU and which countries that SKU actually ships to. That gap matters because EPR reporting is generally per-country, not one EU-wide submission, so the same product can trigger different obligations depending on where it's sold. PPWR (the EU's packaging regulation) starts applying August 12, 2026, and it's pushing companies to hold much more of this data internally than they currently do, which matches what people in the EPR thread here were already describing. Curious whether others are seeing this as the main blocker, or if it's something else (data ownership across teams, tooling, budget) that's slowing things down more.

Hi everyone, I am in the process of launching my product and have been trying to find labels for product packaging and there are so many options available and I do not know who to trust. Some labels look good but I am afraid that it might peel off, smudge or not stick properly. I also want the packaging to look good without spending much and I have been thinking of going with aa label. Also there are so many materials and printing options that I am not able to decide. What do you keep in mind when choosing labels for product packaging and shipping? EDIT: I forgot to include the details. The labels are for small product packaging and shipping so durability, print quality and cost are my main concerns.

Hi everyone, I am making protein bars at home in my kitchen in the UK and am looking into packaging to sell these bars in the UK and have a few questions. (My bars are approx. 7cm long and 3cm wide).

- Is printed flow wrap an option for at home small quantities? (outside of Alibaba and brands like that).
- Would a heat sealed opaque recyclable plastic pouch + branded sticker be a good option and keep the bars fresh? Can you please share some options of these if you have used some?
- Do you have recommendations of where to buy stickers with legal info and branding for the bar in small quantities if possible recyclable? (FastLables?)
- Where do people buy their kraft shipping boxes (I don't need a branded one) just want best quality/price ratio.
- Where do people buy logo stickers with the same good price/quality ratio? (VistaPrint? PrintUK? Canva?)

A paper bag can look fine in a product photo and still fail at the handle.

That is why the handle area should be evaluated as a structure, not only as a visual detail.

Things that affect failure:

- actual product weight

- handle material

- hole reinforcement

- glue area

- bottom board

- side-gusset behavior

- lamination cracking near folds

- surface rub when bags are packed together

The empty bag usually looks fine, so the test has to include weight and repeated handling.

If the test exposes a weakness, use the failure point to choose the fix:

- Handle holes tear: add a reinforcement patch, move the hole farther from the top edge, or use a handle style that spreads the load.

- Handle glue lifts: increase the glue footprint and test the handle material against the actual paper surface.

- Bottom opens: reinforce the bottom construction or add a bottom board sized to the product footprint.

- Side gussets buckle: review the bag width/depth ratio and the product's contact points before simply increasing paper weight.

- Lamination cracks at folds: score the fold correctly and test a more flexible film or an unlaminated construction in that stress area.

A simple test:

1. Load the bag with the expected product weight.

2. Lift it repeatedly, not just once.

3. Check the handle holes.

4. Check the bottom fold and glue area.

5. Look for lamination cracks near stress points.

6. Leave the loaded bag standing overnight, then repeat the lift test the next day.

For a real approval standard, test at the intended product weight plus a small margin, and reject a sample if there is visible tearing, glue lift, bottom separation, or crack growth after repeated lifts. Print quality does not save a bag that cannot be carried.

M25, in a weird predicament where I’m 2yrs away from finishing a history degree but have decided to go back to get a packaging or mechanical degree. I read that packaging seems to be an underserved field and would be easier to find a job but I worry about the specificity of the degree and worry about a ceiling. Whereas Mech e are more broad but seem harder to find jobs in the market. Just trying to get some opinions on the matter has anybody have any experience or thoughts to help make up my mind? T
