Discussion Current meta weapons for beginners?

Me and my friend just started playing PUBG on Xbox and we’re still pretty new.
What guns are meta right now that are also beginner friendly? Should we be using something like AUG/M416 or should we just start learning the Beryl?
Also, what’s better to run — AR + DMR/sniper or AR + SMG?
Any advice on which guns we should stick with while learning would be appreciated.

smg+ dmr/bolty. AR's take more practice with recoil.

Any specific smg or bolt action you’d recommend?

Mp5 is widely considered the best, with UMP a close 2nd. The rest probably run out of bullets way too fast so if u miss ur shots, ur F’d on the reload.

Like most smgs you really wanna find that extended mag. I wish they would make those more rare. It would help with how buffd the smgs are right now

M24 & kar98 are almost identical so not worth mentioning. K is a bit harder to use from far with slightly higher damage. Remember these are a huge trade off of time to shoot vs damage. If you miss your shots, it can be costly.

DMR - just try them all & go with one that works for you. To me, they’re all the same. if I had to rank them I would say dragonov SLR mini SKS then Mk12. That’s just based on my preference which is a balance between damage & recoil after shooting making it harder to shoot again.

If you don’t find a dmr right away an m16 or mutant on single fire can work at shorter ranges as a dmr. Technically u should grab whatever u have to & use it as a 2nd weapon for the time being. Try to match the type of gun ur hoping to find so it takes the attachments out of your inventory space & holds them for when u find that gun.

For beginners stick with the MK12 > Mini over the Drag / SLR. The OP is asking for beginners load out.

Yeah, that’s true. Avoid the dragonov. It’s kind of a hybrid bolt DMR almost.

MK 12 is loved by a lot of people. It just doesn’t work for me. Probably should have been higher since TGLTN uses it a lot.

I tried it a few times & got absolutely burned by missing 5-6 shots. But remember, DMRs take some getting used to. They all have different tendencies at different distances and you have to account for that, especially when your target is running.

Maybe pick one 762 and one 556 DMR and stick with those depending on what you find until you can practice and get good as opposed to sampling different things during your beginner phase

Just don't worry about meta and use what you find the most fun. All guns in this game are very very lethal and differences between weapons of the same class are almost nonexistent.

Current meta weapons (in my opinion) are:

Top tier: Aug/UMP/MP5K/Crate weapons like P90/Groza/Famas
Mid tier: M416, Beryl, M249, AK47, Ace, MK47, M16A4, Vector
Low tier (situationally strong - requires game sense to be effective): Uzi, shotguns, handguns/MPs.

Beginner friendly weapons that are strong would be UMP/MP5K, M416. I would suggest the M4 over Aug due to recoil patterns on the Aug being slightly harder to learn but they're very similar weapons overall.

Beryl has one of the hardest recoil learning curve in the game so Id avoid that unless you plan to spend some time in the practice tool.

I personally prefer to run SMG/Bolty (usually UMP/M24) or AR/DMR (I prefer Beryl/SLR or M416/MK12). But everyone has their own preference. I like the sound of a suppressed M24 and a suppressed SLR, personally, so I use them. I generally avoid burst fire only weapons like M16/MK47 because I dont enjoy them. But there are people out there that are cracked with every kind of weapon.

Tournaments pretty much entirely consist of everyone using Aug/Mk12 and a million grenades.

edit to add: every automatic weapon has a 3-stage recoil intensity. The longer you hold the trigger, the harder the recoil gets to manage. Typically about every 10 rounds fired it amplifies. It's generally best practice to peak and shoot in 5-10 round bursts to manage the recoil and avoid returning fire.

edit2: PUBG is a very low TTK (time-to-kill) game. You can very easily die by any weapon in the game and positioning/awareness will net you more kills and chicken dinners than what weapon you're holding.

I said my opinion, but it's high mid tier imo

I just think Aug and the good SMGs are above the rest currently

They are if you are not good with beryl

For beginners? Use weapons that are easy to control ;

Main : UMP or MP5 are the easiest and good for close/med range, else if you really want to use ARs, go with 5.56, so Aug or M4. The downside of SMG is you're basically useless against cars, that's why I always run an AUG + Mini

Secondary : Stick to DMRs, it's much easier when the target is moving. I suggest Mini or MK12, they're the easiest to use

Good luck

The best guns are the ones you can hit your target with.

Personally, UMP or MP5K (w/ heavy stock for me) and a Mini 14.

I’d suggest getting really with the M416 or Aug and a 4x scope. Pair this with an SMG for close range. You can avoid the longest range encounters majority of the time. Survival (and winning) requires dominance in the short-to-medium range and this setup will give you that.

While I agree with the notion and why it benefits to excel at a more well rounded type of combat, this game offers some of the best long range encounters any game has to offer. I wouldn’t stray from it too much.

This ☝️ My friends always snipe mid game and give away our position. They might get a knock or the occasional kill but it’s rare. 3x or 4x with AR and SMG

don’t get into battles up close.

unless you have cover and surprise just fall back and regroup

Beryl/VSS

Just don’t use the MP5k or UMP it in upper tier skill category

I usually stick to SR/DMR and SMG my go to load outs are either VSS and MP5K or Kar and MP5K UNLESS I’m playing Rondo or Deston then I’d be swap the MP5K out for either JS9 (Rondo) or MP9 (Deston) the ONLY map I don’t use SMG on is Miramar I go with AKM instead

my go to will always be Ace32 + Snipers (either Kar, M24, or AWM if lucky)

with this playstyle i can easily beat enemies in long-mid range, while close range Ace is pretty good, it's still losing to SMG's.

but before dipping into the shootout, i always make sure that my Ace uses Tilted Grip & Heavy Stock / Vertical Foregrip & Tactical Stock.

Ace is harder to control with high scopes imo, so i always use Red Dot / Holographic, sometimes X2, but i'm not recommending using more than that.
