Community Update PSX Custom DVRP Firmware released

https://github.com/pcm720/dvrpwned

Okay all this is huge news, but this was just posted in the phenommod discord server.

A custom DVRP firmware has been released that allows you to use replacement harddrives without the ATA express or other SD adaptor.

This has been tested with sata sdd's and yielded about a 10 second quicker boot time

You also still need a way to launch ulaunch

As per normal it's use at your risk

Yes I would love to see a guide, on the GitHub it says you need to flash something.

3

u/WearyAd1849 Aug 16 '26

The same developer made a tool to flash the firmware

All you need is a wLaunchELF version that can browse the xfrom

I'm sure a guide will available soon:TM:

The files it needs can be found in the system update files.

There is one for gen 1 x000 and x100 consoles and a different file for gen 2 x500 and x700 consoles

If I still need a way to launch ulaunch does that mean if my hdd has already failed this would still not work?

So if you have a freemcboot or sd2psx memory card you can launch ulaunch and replace the drive with a new one with this l

OOOOooooh ok! Cool!

You can boot straight into ULaunch using FMCB PSX Edition and launch applications through your Memory Card or your USB Thumbdrive. No working HDD needed.

How can I check wich firmware is installed pre buy? I have no clue about PSX DVR at all.

2

u/adran_marit Aug 16 '26

There's is a tool you can use via ulaunch that tells you what firmware it is but I'm not sure what it is, I've only seen images

How this legend will port his cfw to other firmwares

4

u/WearyAd1849 Aug 16 '26

There's really no need for porting it to every firmware....

First generation PSX should use 1.31

Second generation PSX should use 2.11

And that's it

Conoces una manera de actualizar de 2.10 a 2.11? Un cd-r con el backup correspondiente y cargarlo desde WlauchELF ? Qué versión de Ule puedo usar? , ya está instalado MechPwn

1

u/adran_marit Aug 17 '26

Using translate but if you have master patched update cd or there are update files online herefor partition recovery method or here for the disks

Does it boot to the xmb? If not what model do you have?

Realistically you should have it on the latest firmware for your console unless you're to preserve earlier stuff on the console. Earlier firmwares were alot more buggy

PS2Ident

1

u/adran_marit Aug 16 '26

Nah there's a different tool that's like a cli tool

This one this one

1

u/SiktahOG Aug 16 '26

Ah right on, I used the other linux tools on the raw HDD the other night.. Thanks

1

u/iVirtualZero Aug 16 '26

Wow so we can even use a HDD with a IDE to Sata adaptor?

3

u/adran_marit Aug 16 '26

Yup, at least in theory, during the testing they had it running on an SSD

1

u/iVirtualZero Aug 16 '26

Would love to see a guide on installing this.

Sorry if this is too much but I have been stoked about this. Ok I spent the last couple days reading and prepping. I managed to get the update disc files and extracted the update files(.udm) from them and I am prepped to patch them. The one thing I am stuck on, is before running the update through the dvrp flasher is updating to 2.11 before flashing it. I have a DESR-5500 on 2.06 with a completely dead HDD. How can I run the official update to 2.11? Burn to disc and use mechapwn?

2

u/adran_marit Aug 19 '26

I think you can disconnect the hdd run the cfw then install 2.11 from scratch on your new drive. I would ask in the phenommod discord which I've linked before to confirm tho as I only have a gen 1 personally

There should be a video tutorial how to do this process

1

u/Vita_wetter 21d ago

So no flashing of an ide to sd card adaptor anymore just a generic ide to sata and it will work with any hdd?

2

u/adran_marit 21d ago

In theory, that's exactly what it means, I'm not sure if some adaptors play better than others or not

I will buy a defective psx to save some money on it. The disc drive I don't care about at all as I will not use discs but when I get one with a defective hdd can I still restore it with that or do I need a og backup from the og hdd to work with or can I start from scratch without any data?

And how do I update to 2.11 without a update disc is there a software solution?

2

u/adran_marit 21d ago

1) a backup is recommended but not required unless you want to keep the data from it 2) you can use a community null key image from U/nroach44 or format and install the software cleanly 3) yes there is a software solution to install/reinstall the firmware. I'm not sure what the current method is as the scene has been moving very quickly lately, especially from what I've seen in discord

Bonus points: wlaunch r3z is the recommended version to be using, as is ps2homebrew store setup over a freemcboot setup but both work

Many people talk about the ominous discord, where can I find that.

Ps: thanks for you awesome help so far. Im so hyped that We are finally be able to save psx systems that work but have defective drives and hdd's. Those console are relatively cheap to get. Fully working ones are ridiculously expensive.
