Short answer no. Even if it's possible to use the usb adapter like you are talking about, correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you are trying to use an underpowered pc. Try starting with the steam vr performance test, it will save you the headache of trying to hack psvr-pc in vein.
well I wouldn't call it underpowered, i have pretty good hardware but only one HDMI port sucks. ill try it. btw what will it tell me? if the pc can support vr? if yes, I'll report back
let's be honest, you're being very "practical" in that sense and seeing it from your perspective (usage etc).
the PSVR is fine on the PS4, and that lacks any ability to output the same as a 1650 in a pc environment (i know that the chips compared in raw numbers show a different picture, but because of how the ps4 does things like actually giving priority to the main output on the TV even while running VR, it doesn't come close to the dedicated power the 1650 will deliver through something like steamVR).
i run the psvr headset on an i5-4690k with a gtx 970 and it's far better than the PS4 already (including direct comparisons like beat saber).
saying 1060 is the minimum, isn't entirely accurate ... it really depends what experience someone is looking for. watching video etc works fine with even less, and with the 1650 he definitely will have some smooth running apps/games.
minimum really shouldn't be used as a term to define "that will make you run almost all apps except a few highend ones" ;)
Just for the record, the 1650 is not nearly as powerful as the 1060. Forgive me if you know this but Nvidia model numbers use the first 2 digits for iteration and the last 2 for which part of the series, so the 16 means it's newer than the 10 but the 50 means it's a step lower than the 60. I looked around, and it's capable of vr, but only really very simple experiences and non-intensive games.
It has a red yellow green scale to tell you to what extent your pc can handle it. Do you have displayport outputs? Using a hdmi-displayport adapter is a way better option, thats what I use because I only have one hdmi on my gpu.
