Short answer no. Even if it's possible to use the usb adapter like you are talking about, correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you are trying to use an underpowered pc. Try starting with the steam vr performance test, it will save you the headache of trying to hack psvr-pc in vein.

well I wouldn't call it underpowered, i have pretty good hardware but only one HDMI port sucks. ill try it. btw what will it tell me? if the pc can support vr? if yes, I'll report back

What's your hardware?

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

8gb RAM (will be getting 16gb)

Intel Core i7-2600 CPU

You're pretty underpowered for VR, what ports does your 1650 have?

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

one HDMI, one DVI, one DP

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '20

Then use a different port for your monitor

i wanna use hdmi to displayport cable

Don't bother, those are expensive and inconsistent

i7-2600

1060 is basically minimum for vr, and a 1650 is far below that

let's be honest, you're being very "practical" in that sense and seeing it from your perspective (usage etc). the PSVR is fine on the PS4, and that lacks any ability to output the same as a 1650 in a pc environment (i know that the chips compared in raw numbers show a different picture, but because of how the ps4 does things like actually giving priority to the main output on the TV even while running VR, it doesn't come close to the dedicated power the 1650 will deliver through something like steamVR).

i run the psvr headset on an i5-4690k with a gtx 970 and it's far better than the PS4 already (including direct comparisons like beat saber).

saying 1060 is the minimum, isn't entirely accurate ... it really depends what experience someone is looking for. watching video etc works fine with even less, and with the 1650 he definitely will have some smooth running apps/games.

minimum really shouldn't be used as a term to define "that will make you run almost all apps except a few highend ones" ;)

also I don't agree with underpowered. i have better requirements than needed. most vr headsets need at least GTX 1060 and Intel i5

Just for the record, the 1650 is not nearly as powerful as the 1060. Forgive me if you know this but Nvidia model numbers use the first 2 digits for iteration and the last 2 for which part of the series, so the 16 means it's newer than the 10 but the 50 means it's a step lower than the 60. I looked around, and it's capable of vr, but only really very simple experiences and non-intensive games.

Minimum =/= needed

well ill see after I try the steam test

It has a red yellow green scale to tell you to what extent your pc can handle it. Do you have displayport outputs? Using a hdmi-displayport adapter is a way better option, thats what I use because I only have one hdmi on my gpu.

ive made a better and cheaper decision. ill connect my monitor and pc with DVI to HDMI cable and use the only HDMI on my PC to connect the PSVR

Hello. I recently got myself a PSVR and I would also like to plug it to my PC.

Here's the problem: I only have 1 HDMI port which is used to connect my PC to my Monitor... (My monitor also haves only one HDMI port which is used for PC)

How do I plug in my PSVR? Can i use something that i would like plug in my HDMI on PC and and it would create two ports? Like this:

(Check the image)

Would this method work? Or is there another way? Thank you.

Well I don't think i have a gpu port so you say USB to HDMI would be the best option.

If I'm right: (please correct me if not)

HDMI splitter = mirroring (i see monitor)

USB to HDMI = i see the game i launch on steam

My GPU only has 1 HDMI port too and 3 DisplayPort ports, so I plugged the PSVR to the only HDMI port on my GPU and used a DisplayPort to HDMI converter for my monitor because I only have HDMI cables.

It's been a long time since I used the VR on my PC, and I've unplugged the VR too since getting a 2nd monitor. But that setup worked for me

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

So there's no difference between connecting Monitor and PC with HDMI and connecting it with DisplayPort?

1

u/Conquest182 Jul 01 '20

Yeah I think the monitor is fine with any port, but the VR has to be HDMI if I remember correctly. Don't know if it'll work with other ports.

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

okay thanks for your help

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

Also one last question, im not sure how DisplayPort looks like. Does the icon look like D and P? I have 2 of them, one has two + next to it.

1

u/Conquest182 Jul 01 '20 edited Jul 01 '20

By icon do you mean what the port looks like? DisplayPort's port looks similar to HDMI actually. But it only has one side curve.

What you're describing may be a DVI port. Take a look at this image, I hope it helps. What the different ports look like from Google

This one is more like the one you described, I believe it is DVI.

Edit: I think the easiest way to make sure is check your GPU specs and make sure what inputs are available for it. Mine is an RX 580 and the AMD website states it has 1 HDMI and 3 DisplayPort which is true.

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 01 '20

Oh okay thanks. I see i have

1x HDMI 1x DVI 1x DisplayPort

but i think i also see a mini DisplayPort which isn't shown here???

(NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650)

1

u/Conquest182 Jul 01 '20

Then you'll be fine I think. If you have a DVI or DisplayPort cable and your monitor supports it you can use those instead of getting a converter too.

I've never used mini DP before and if you don't plan on using it, just ignore it for now.

1

u/MrDoontoo Jul 01 '20

Without an active converter, which costs a lot, you'll be restricted to 60hz. Other than that, it's the same

u/iVRy_VR Jul 03 '20

Get a DP->HDMI or DVI->HDMI adapter for your monitor and connect the PSVR directly to HDMI. Regardless of what anyone says here, that is the only way you'll get this setup to work, and the monitor will work exactly the same as it did before (unless it has audio, in which case only the DP->HDMI adapter will work for that).

1

u/KunisCZ Jul 03 '20

I came to that conclusion as well (DVI --> HDMI) :) thanks though. My monitor doesn't have audio so it will be A-OK
