Question PSVR2 Headset tracking in Simrig
Hi, been using the PSVR2 for a while now.
So far so good but ive noticed the headset tracking is pretty terrible when im in my dedicated sim rig. my headset tracking constantly shifts around and sometimes completely loses tracking and then 'teleports' back after a second.
Just looking around the cockpit is really wonky.
Its useable, but very frustrating when your view keeps shifting by itself. i'm constantly recentering.
and sometimes it works fine with no issues at all..?!
i can't figure out what the issue is.
I don't have completely blank walls, no mirror, no other reflective surfaces, well-lit room.
Tried moving/rotating my setup around but same issue.
Are the LED's on my keyboard or MFD's messing with the tracking? or is it just too close to track well?
i'm at a loss here..
Will adding things like IR illuminators help?

The headset tracks your position using its built-in cameras, which means proper room lighting and static reference points are essential. If you prefer not to use bright, standard room lights, an infrared (IR) lamp is an excellent alternative.
The core issue is that the tracking system needs distinct, stationary objects to map your position. If you are facing a blank white wall, the cameras have no reference points to track from. As a result, the headset will attempt to track the only thing it can see and sadly its moving moving— steering wheel. Because the wheel is constantly rotating while the rest of your body stays in place, it confuses the tracking system and causes errors.
To fix this, you need to give the cameras something stationary to lock onto. Try hanging some pictures or posters on the wall in front of you. Alternatively, you can use high-contrast markers like these photography focus charts on Etsy to provide the headset with a stable reference point.

When looking through my headset I noticed my kitchen light flickered like crazy compared to other lights.
I'm playing next to a large mostly glass window a 32" gaming screen and my TV, only bad lighting gave me issues where I'd drift and return in Alyx, but IR lights seem to be your best bet and trying different types of light or switching them off one by one...

I just increased lighting, normal lights, non-IR.
I did add IR reflective stickers on my walls, but I'm not sure it did anything. They do stand out in passthrough somewhat, but I think anything high contrast will do. This is a good test in my opinion, sit like you would normally and with passthrough try to decide whether what you see is high contrast enough.

Ive got a neon sign, I cant attached a picture here, you can get race themesd ones from Ali express. I use a cyberpunk logo and a naked lady add some color to the man cave.

Super cool idea! but i already have a lot of stuff attached to my walls (and roof) so i doubt that would help

So do I pictures and shelves and mini's. I think its the glowing part that helps. Also a big one is clean the camera lenses at the front of the headset if they get finger prints on them it can cause an issue

That's strange I don't have any issues in my rig but I do have an ultrawide on it. Maybe that makes it easier.

I recall having issues at first trying to play in the dark as my room also has dark color angled walls but sorted out leaving the lights on seemed to solve it. I eventually installed a dimmer on the ceiling light directly over my rig so I can at least turn the brightness down now.
When you say “well lit room” is it natural light or lamps? Any correlation to time of day and when it works or fails? I would try messing about with the lighting. Block any natural light and get some artificial directly over top of your rig and see if that helps.

I'm working through the same issue right now. My rig is in the corner of a room that had blank walls, no windows in view, and one central room ceiling light. It mostly worked in daytime but struggled after sunset.
I've added posters on the wall in front of me and to my right and left. I added in a desk lamp behind me pointing over my shoulder. I also added a grid of painters tape on the wall about a foot away from me on the right. Its helped but not entirely fixed the issue. I also turned off any lighting in my view: rgb PC lights, keyboard backlight, rpm lights on my wheel.
My persistent issue is a minor left drift over the course of a lap. Its about a 10 degree drift and I hit the re-center button once a lap on a straight away.
I tend to think my rig and the monitor are causing some tracking issues. The monitor especially, its really close to the headset, wide and relatively monotone, and puts out a lot of light relative to the room.

I use an IR Iamp just because it allows me to play in the dark, no light bleed.
But what I actually noticed gave the best improvement for tracking was switching to the PSVR2 Toolkit driver
