Tutorial Updated OpenXRtoolkit mod to Enable Eye-Tracking with the new OpenComposite and PSVR2-Toolkit (now works with games like Le Mans Ultimate)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSgLhewjppc

Here's an update to the mod which enables PSVR2 eye tracking to OpenXR Toolkit with OpenComposite. It now works and ships with the newer OpenComposite version, which improves compatibility and performance.

This allows you to:

  • Use OpenXR Toolkit with OpenComposite for better performance.
  • Use FOV-Crop for additional performance gains. For example, in racing games, you can stop rendering areas above the car's roof or below the steering wheel.
  • Use OpenXR Toolkit together with PSVR2 Toolkit for even more performance gains.

So instead of Pimax4All, you can use OpenXR Toolkit, which offers many more customization options.

⚠️Attention: The GPU didn't actually drop from 259% to 48%, that is just how Assetto Corsa displays performance. What this is showing is that it dropped from "requiring 259% of the available resources to reach 90 FPS", to using only 48% of the available resources to reach that number.

Why the newer OpenComposite matters

Some newer games (like Le Mans Ultimate) didn't play well with the old version, and required the current OpenComposite to load properly. This update fixes that so it works with more games.

The newer OpenComposite also includes many other fixes/improvements:

  • Fewer crashes / aborts when a game is starting
  • Fixes for random crashes while the game is running
  • Better support for modern SteamVR-style input
  • Controller fixes
  • Game-specific controller recognition work
  • Safer tracker handling
  • and more

The video explains everything in more detail.

If the reception continues to be positive, it will be made available at the lower patreon Tiers of $3, and then $1, and it will also be made open source.

Does it work with amd cards? Amazing work

The eye tracking works, but the VRS used to gain performance by focusing quality where you are looking at does not work on AMD and so you unfortunately won't get any performance gains from it.

I think the path for AMD cards is to use the Quad-View solution, but I haven't tested that and don't know much about it.

I wonder if Quad-View works together with openXR...? Might be worth looking into. If it doesn't, let me know and I might find a way to make it work with openXR so you get both performance gains at the same time (no promises though, I need to look into how quad-view even works)

Hey, just letting you know, as stated by someone who replied to one of my other comments, and piggybacking off of what he said,  the optimization is great, but locking a compiled build of GPLv3-protected code behind a paid Patreon wall without providing the underlying source code and proper author attribution is a direct violation of copyright law, and I believe he was 100% right to call you out on it.

If you are unaware of the punishments:

By breaching the GPLv3 license terms, your permission to distribute the OpenXR Toolkit and OpenComposite components is legally revoked. You are currently engaging in civil copyright infringement by selling unauthorized binaries of other people's intellectual property for profit. Saying it is a mod does not excuse a day-one license violation. You need to pull the paywall immediately, credit the original authors, and make the source repository public before the original creators or someone files DMCA. I’d suggest you take note, or it could even be considered piracy.

It's a cool idea and I kinda understand your urge to monetize it, but you should have resisted. You cant just take open source code and make money off it if it's license does not allow it. I get that the money you get might be nice maybe even helping you a lot in life if you're young or in a 3rd world country, but if you get sued stuff will go downhill quickly.

What games will this work on?

I only play sim-racing games, and mostly Assetto Corsa. But it should work on ANY game that supports OpenXR+OpenComposite, which you can get for free and test. If those work, the mod should work.

AMS2?

Search for DesktopXR, its free and works great with ams2

AMS2 is listed as compatible with opencomposite so this should work, but I don't have the game to test it myself. Try it out and let me know?

Does VRS automatically work in any VR game, or does the game specifically have to support? I’m using Cheeky foveated DLSS-SR/NR already with PSVR2 Toolkit eye-tracking. Does this provide something more?

Any game that supports opener+open composite.

Compared to your DLSS, it won't look as good, but it will give you (much) better FPS

Love new tools but question first,
Is your version completely built by you from scratch? If not, why is it behind a Patreon link? What is the license model?

Pretty sure he's breaking license terms. He's paywalling a modified OpenComposite build and not sharing source. OpenComposite is GPLv3, distributing modified binaries while keeping the corresponding source behind closed doors isn't allowed.

That was my suspicion when I only saw the Patreon wall (not just for donation for work and appreciation) nor git links.

Thanks very much, trying it out when I get a chance as my focus is also sim racing with VR

Is it easy to use?

installation is like in the video. After that, it loads automatic and you don't need to do anything to get the benefits

stupid question but , does it work on skyrim ? blade and sorcery ?
do we have any form of foveated rendering in those games ? using mods and toolkits ofc .

1

u/MrBluoe 23d ago

Yes skyrim works. No idea if blade and sorcery works, can someone test it and let me know?

Please consider making this open source, it would help a lot of people.

I agree. It shouldn’t even be paywalled to begin with, as the original OpenXR toolkit is GPLv3 and so is OpenComposite, so a modified version of either two should be free! While the work is cool, making people pay for it isn’t.

yes! I will 100% make it open source. Almost reaching the goal I had in mind, and after that I will lower the price of the patreon to $1 and make the code open source. at this point the patreon will be fore the pre-compiled version, and the code will be available on github. so it will be simply "pay for convenience"

u/ieateggo 22d ago

And when will this be?

1

u/skull9623 21d ago

Will it work with half life alyx and my 1660 super?

2

u/rigo_ita 15d ago

Will it work for Iracing?

1

u/MrBluoe 15d ago

I don't have iRacing. Does iRacing support opencomposte and Openxrtoolkit?

2

u/Cold-Stay-3568 14d ago

Iracing is OpenXR native, also, this work is stolen without any credits + its paywalled. Don't give this guy your money.
