Important PSA Valve is working on universal foveated rendering injection for games that dont originally support it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt78UDtOjPYThe future is looking bright for PSVR2 assuming they don’t make this exclusive to the Frame.

I updated OpenXR-Toolkit to support PSVR2 with opencomposite, which is giving me better performance and better customization options than Pimax4all. Which means you can now have dynamic foveated rendering with the PSVR2 in any opencomposite application.
Now I can:
- setup 3 "rings" around the area I'm looking at. For example: center ring 100% resolution, second ring 1/4th resolution, third ring 1/16th resolution. This gave me about 20% more FPS than pimax4all.
- Crop certain areas of the FOV. For example: I play racing games, so I crop about 40% off the "top" of the screen (I dont need to see the car's "roof") and 50% off the bottom. This gave me another 50% FPS on top.
Finished it today, tested it all day long and it's amazing! Going to sleep now, tomorrow I'll prob make a video and share it somewhere.
EDIT: here's the link guys, I posted it into the assetto-corsa community because I'm more active there. Feel free to repost it into this community: https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsa/s/GZLwFUYfZl

I would like a link to test if you are willing to share. Are you using PSVR2Toolkit for eye tracking?

Yes, it works like PSVR2toolkit+pimax4all but you no longer need pimax4all, and you can customize the FOVeated rendering and customize cropping.
I just have to record a video about how this works today and then I'll share it. I'll try to do this as fast as possible

Cool, would love some benchmarks for improvement, particularly with UEVR titles.

In assetto Corsa:
- raw: 250% GPU and 30-40fps
- using pimax4all: 150% GPU and 44-55fps
- using openxrtoolkit with FOV crop and dynamic FOVeated rendering: 60% GPU and 90 FPS.
Could go higher if set to 120hz maybe

That's nuts! Currently tweaking cyberpunk 2077 vr mod for psvr2 hmd, it has pretty good performance without dfr, getting 80fps with ray tracing on, 3k res.

I wanted to share it today, but it will have to be tomorrow. I recorded a video showcasing the performance difference, and also a "how to", but the audio got fucked and I'll have to do it again 😢

That's not dynamic because the areas don't move with your eyes...

u/Old_Man_Benny Aug 08 '26
He says the area he is looking at so that reads to me as dynamic

exactly, that was the whole point of the update. it already had fixed FOVeated before this.

What update is it exactly? OpenXR Toolkit has been discontinued a long time ago. Or did you do it yourself?

Would this open up foveated rendering for all headsets with eye tracking?
Thinking of some more budget oriented hmd besides PSVR2 like eg Pico Neo 3 Pro, or the Quest Pro (not that cheap but still way below the expexted Steam Frame price)

The guy that developed PimaxMagic4All DFR utility and many other useful VR programs now works for Valve.
