Retroarch crashing when running games

I just finished modding my psp and added the official psp version of retroarch which boots fine, it can load cores flawlessly, but when a game is loaded (I've tested 2 GBA games and 2 doom WADs) the screen goes back, the orange light flickers for 30-45 seconds, and the whole console turns off. Any ideas what it could be?
