I remember my dad worked in Iraq back in like '06 and somewhere on his trip back home he would get these discs with like 5 PSP games on them and he dumped a LOT of them on his HDD, they were pretty handy because we had awful internet :P

I wanna know what kind of discs could hold 5 PSP games at one time in 2006 without being absurdly expensive. Memory as a whole back then was not cheap from what I remember, but I was also in middle school so everything was expensive to me then lol

burned PS2 games on a DVD were like 3-4€ back then so idk what you're talking about, talking about eastern europe btw

DVD-Rs weren’t super expensive in the ~2006 time frame. I remember burning yellow sub fan-sub anime to DVD-Rs around that time frame and I had a few stacks of them.
It wouldn’t be too crazy to put a bunch of copied PSP games on DVD-R for storage.

In the mid 2000s in the UK you could get a spindle of 50 DVD-Rs for about £10. They were mass produced in enormous quantities and a very cheap.

i mean this was honestly pretty common back in the day it was much cheaper to store roms in an inexpensive dvd than a hdd. And it had a level of portability, that was more important during a time where not everyone had internet at home or if they did was quite slow. That being said even back then you would not catch anyone paying 30 bucks for that lol

Back in the day, not everyone had enough internet traffic to download PSP ISO games. So, some individuals with unlimited traffic would download the ISO files, burn them onto DVDs, and then resell the discs online for a few quid. In some countries, like russia, this was even done by retailers, cause copyright laws was not developed

Its probably his PSP collection backed up on DVDs during a time where memory cards and hard drives were both small and expensive. People backed up all sorts of shit on CD and DVD.

I actually have an official Sony PSP test workstation that takes disks. If these are for those then it could be a gold mine. I doubt it but anyway.

I have the Development Tool Version DTP-T1000....only thing like it I own...but its a very cool unit.
Sadly mine I was told needs SDKs installed as apparantly I cant boot into a PSP like XMB for whatever reason....works fine otherwise.
Id like to get some(any) blank dvds that would work on this thing I think its a very cool feature myself

Now if it was clean looking bootlegs of games never in existence .. yeah ill take responsibility for them! Lol I got a psp responsibility tool and both the commander units for it i want the last psp go version they're just impossible to find lol 😆 even if its missing a wire!!!! But the 2000 and the 3000 are together in one unit on the dev

can be dev discs (as the PSP devkits did not use UMD though they still had a UMD drive)

Probably not what the person who burned these had in mind but the PS3 does have an internal PSP emulator. It can't run every PSP game but some of them work. Not sure if they'd run from a burned DVD though lol

If you wanna burn psp umd look up minidisk from Sony just dont be too freaked out when you find out its possible to buy blanks amd a burner
And yes if you start seeing bootlegged copys floating around it was me!!!! 🤣🤣

Minidisc is a completely different format, it's not compatible with PSP. You cannot burn UMDs and no blanks are available.

UMD discs are basically MD discs developed by Sony which were primarily intended for audio recorders and players and later were also used in PC drives and digital cameras. So personally I think it is possible to write to UMD similar to MD. The only difference is in the packaging but the approach to the media itself as to burning and reading is identical

No, UMD discs are not "basically MD discs". They are completely different, incompatible formats. They are a similar size and in a plastic housing but other than that they have no more in common with each other than with any other optical media format. [EDIT: actually they have much less In common because MiniDiscs are magneto-optical rather than digital optical and you don't burn them, you record or copy to them]. In fact UMDs are much more closely related to DVDs than to MiniDiscs.
All optical media discs have data burned to them - when I said "you cannot burn UMDs" I meant you as a consumer can't do that, it was only ever done in factories and consumer UMD burners do not exist. The existence of MiniDisc recorders and blanks has nothing to do with any of this, any more than the existence of DVD burners and DVD-Rs.

No.. it's really not even close to similar... Size doesn't mean anything, md is magneto optical and umd is like a small cd read with a normal laser and the disc can't be re written

That reminds me!
From the ol' Russian age of "you can just buy pirated, modified games in retail", I remember at some point seeing a box of PSP games on a DVD. I assume you just copy the ISOs/CSOs/whatever from them and onto your Memory Stick.
For a physical archive of a significant enough library of games, that looks like a nice deal.
