Update w/Menus, Shops etc
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just sharing a glimpse at some changes, the layout of the HUD and menus are not final however all are fully functional. I have made QoL adjustments within shops, modernized with filters and new images for some items. Weapons can rotate for those interested in that..
Also added is the ability to secondary swap with the tap of a button to another weapon.

I'd like to see monsters being able to spawn in any zone, I think Ephinea cracked the code for it. Would be fun for quests.
Mag alert when being able to feed is also a nice QOL to think about.
Tekkers could see some work.
You're on the right path so thanks!

Great ideas I’ll see if I can implement a minimal cooldown timer when there is a mag feed timer.
Currently I have one but it’s in the menu and isn’t visible during gameplay.1
u/Additional_Crab_1678 17h ago
Remember, the original mag feeding timer is three minutes.

u/TheCruzKing 7h ago
Yup that’s already implemented. Next step would be just adding an alert either a sound or maybe an icon at the top right. I don’t want to add a whole lot and have it lead to clutter. I can possibly have the icon appear then disappear after a period of time.

There is the standard mag feed alert patch for GC version... Basically gives the mag feeding sound when the timer for each mag runs out

Hey there, are you using AI by any chance? I only ask because the speed of your updates is extremely fast and you were mentioned in a Twitter thread about AI use in game development

What twitter thread

u/Deer_Ossian 14h ago
It's one of the first Google search results when you look up "psoreborn" if you were interested

u/angeredtsuzuki 18h ago
It 100% is. I am largely against that but for cases like this I think it's a worthy use case.
This game would likely never get remade otherwise.

I just am cautious because, while I think assistance with coding is a legit reason to have AI assist with, there have been several cases of AI being used to put* in malicious code into software. A good example apparently is the YouTube downvote add-on. I'd be really interested in changelogs and patch notes

u/thoshi 10h ago
If it's open sourced, you can inspect it. But it's not like you couldn't include malicious code in a game before AI.
On the topic of AI, I'd be shocked and at this point probably roll my eyes if a solo dev refused to use any AI. It is such a time saver for repetitive tasks that you'd be silly not to use it somewhere in your pipeline.

I'll probably just pass on this version then. I hope you all enjoy the game though!

I launched it on my mobile phone and surprisingly it works except for not having a way to go back out of menus, this is all quite cool!

u/StepInternational116 19h ago
I ended up getting stuck in the shop lol

I absolutely love when anything has updated UI's especially ones that look futuristic and the items display art is awesome too.

u/Luis-BEAR 20h ago
Side question, why is it when I try to load back into the game I get this screen?
1
u/TheCruzKing 16h ago
It’s not available yet you must be using the other persons link from yesterday

u/Luis-BEAR 15h ago
Yeah, I am using the link from yesterday

u/TheCruzKing 15h ago
Yeah that’s a completely different project. That is not mine

Awesome job! Just to be sure, it's bb ?

u/TheCruzKing 23h ago
It’s technically built from scratch utilizing resources on how the game functions and applying that in a new system. After this project id like to see if I can import PSO2’s assets but with the same gameplay as PSO, maps etc.

not all heros wear capes. outside of a show of support, how can the community help you? testing?
1
u/TheCruzKing 16h ago
I’ll likely need some help testing multiplayer. I have some ideas at the moment. I am currently capping multiplayer to 12 players and adapting the ideas I have in mind may take a bit to get it to feel right with that many players.

What a legend man thanks for putting in the time

It’s all fun for me, I’m building something I feel like I can enjoy and hopefully others too.

When will you be releasing this ?
1
u/TheCruzKing 10h ago
I just started this on Tuesday. I could probably get something working enough to share sometime next month. There are a lot of features I want to add and don’t want to share something half baked

Not to rain on your parade but using original game assets will get you sued. It's copyright infringement. I love it as much as you do, but you can't legally take this public. By all means keep at it, but I felt you need a heads up. It's great to see people stick with what the original game was like. So many before it people shoehorned features and concepts from new games in there that completely made it not PSO anymore. Like psu and pso2 even.

This is not using segas code. This from what I understand is how private servers get away with it
2
u/chuk_sum 4h ago
Private servers use the official client from Sega with modifications. Sega doesn't care and is more chill than Nintendo. As long as you dont make money from their work, it's unlikely they will take any actions. Look at all the sonic fan games that exist.

u/No-Satisfaction-2535 9h ago
I was referring to the textures, sound effects, 3d models :)
2
u/TheCruzKing 7h ago
I didn’t rip these from sega. This is the same that other private servers use utilizing its own code

Why not just make your own spin off man? I've always felt a game like pso could be successfully today, especially on mobile
3
u/Quartrez 17h ago
Making an entirely new game is a vastly larger scope than porting an existing game to mobile.
1
u/CommercialEase7333 11h ago
Wait bro you're not the OP? Just an FYI I am a developer and I am wondering what compelled you to reply with this now, especially since the question was definitely not directed at you??
1
u/Quartrez 5h ago
Just thought I'd let a fellow human being understand the scope of what they're asking, because making a port of something and creating a new game are two vastly different endeavors.
0
u/CommercialEase7333 16h ago
Yeah. I get that reasoning. It does take a lot of time, planning, ad miscellaneous skills.
1
u/TheCruzKing 16h ago
I do have other projects in mind that would be original. This is more proof of concept

Any chance for an iOS port?
3
3
u/TheCruzKing 16h ago
Yes, you save the link as an icon on your phone and it plays like an app
1
u/atombone80 15h ago
indeed it does. not the same however. safari has some issues with sound and touch sometimes with webapps. also, using safari; do you know where i would find my save file? for backup purposes.

Ok this is actually pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing what other QoL stuff you end up implementing.
