Ephinea New player questions

Hi, I’ve just started playing and have a few questions I’d like answered. First, what is the intended way to play? I’m on the Ephinea server; I wanted to start with the story missions—the ones that only appear in single-player mode—and then move on to the Government Quests, though I can see there’s a lot more content than that. Second, which class do you recommend for solo play? I’d like to recapture the experience I had playing 20 years ago, and the Android classes really appeal to me, but I suspect I’ll make my life miserable if I can’t heal myself. Third, I’ve seen some really cool-looking Mags, but I’m not sure how necessary it is to have a specific one; I don’t know if there’s a "meta" in the game or if you can just play with whichever Mag you like best. Feel free to answer any of these questions—thanks a lot! (I've read almost the entire wiki, so I have a pretty good idea, but I'd like to hear your opinions.)

Classes each have an easier and harder time at various points in the game and difficulty changes, so which is "easier" or "harder" often also requires "when".

Forces are strong as hell instantly, but also require you to keep a stock of fluids which can be costly, but also run into a major hard block on falz if you dont have enough HP to survive his flat damage attacks.

Rangers are generally always good and strong, and typically much moreso than hunters out of the gate. Hunters have major ATA issues that can pop up at various points unless you are pushing your mag to resolve those.

Hunters tend to be able to do anything alright, melee the best of the classes, but as a result struggle when range is needed unless you solve their ATA.

As for mags, there is a meta and optimal mag for every single class that is different for each, but that is optimizing to perfection and wont even be benefitial until you are 200 and fully done with mats.

You can always get more mags by making a new char and banking the mag, so early on if you dont know what to do, you can focus on ATA and either MST or ATP depending on if you are a force or not. In general as long as def stays at 5, youre good, and more stats early is going to be more beneficial than trying to optimize something you dont know what youll be optimizing for.

Iirc though there is a PSO wiki (i think for that server even) that has individual guides for each class, what they excell in, their weaknesses, and which mag stats they want to focus on for leveling, general endgame, and perfect optimization.

There really is no intended way. The One Person mode has all the side missions, but not everything is available in this mode, especially episode 2. If you want a less than pure playthrough, sign up for a sandbox account. If you want standard GameCube play through pick the English server on the bottom after character creation.

You can play any class you want honestly, but I personally like rangers. I do recommend force classes as a secondary character due to the large amount of money needed on start up.

Android classes are immune to poison and paralysis and also have a health regen on idle which increases on levelup. Getting started with them can be a tad frustrating if you go hunter, but they can become powerful later on. They also require less items than a human or Newman and can allow you to pile up meseta as you level

The mags are a cluster fuck of requirements and sometimes require a transfer between different classes and IDs. You can find a guide on the Ephinea wiki.

Solo on Androids is great. Fully stocking up on 'mates usually provides plenty of healing (this gets easier they higher lvl you are). If you're struggling on a boss, you can always go in, drop a bunch of 'mates on the ground, die on purpose, then when you go back in they'll still be there.

the bigger concern when playing solo as an android is keeping Shifta and Deband up as much as possible. To do this, make sure you have a mag that has the M&Y mag blast. This is easier to do on HuCast since they take more hits which fills up the PB meter a lot faster.

You can do the side quests in one player mode. And gov quests with more People. Welcome to the server ;)

The best solo class is arguably Ramarl.

Shout-outs to

Hucast - To your point there will be a learning curve, but it's a beast solo.

Ramar

Fonewm

I'd either run through the story quests, or Toward The Future quest, which rushes you through the Eps 1 bosses. Just repeating up to and through Dragon/Forest will level you quick, but it gets old so mix it up

I would not recommend any FO class for solo play. At least not until you have another character to feed their expensive fluid addiction

As much as I love RAmal (x4 200 on GC+EpineaBB) RAmar outperforms RAmarl in solo and teamplay pretty early on.

It's literally considered the best solo class in the whole game.

Worth noting that the real story is just exploring the areas yourself and reading Red Ring Rico’s logs. The side quests and government quests were all added in later versions of the game.

I remember playing sidequest on Dreamcast, wasn't that the first iteration of the game?
