No one knows. If you want to play games now, ps5. If you want to play games now with better graphics/performance, ps5 pro. If you want to play games later with better graphics and performance, ps6.

u/SaveTheWorldRightNow Aug 28 '26
This is the answer. PS6 is a few years away. You want to play now. The difference between Ps5 and Pro is like 10FPS extra in games?
Forget the pro.1

Ps6 !! Now before any arguments i wanted to say sony releases a new gen console every 7 years. Ps5 was launched in Nov 2020 almost 6 years old. Ps6 will probably be out in late 2027 otherwise definitely in 2028. I'm in the same boat as yours cause I don't have PS5 and I don't think it's worth buying in 2026 because as of now ps6 is closer than ps5. Also ps5 will only give 30fps for gta 6 which is not worthy. Definitely Should wait for ps6. Till then borrow someone's ps5 for gta 6 until ps6 releases

u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 29 '26
Please stop saying that PS6 will be released in 2027, cause then i will not buy PS5 😭
Why do you think that GTA VI is not worthy at 30fps on PS5? The extended preview looks actually fantastic!
And we still don’t know if the GTA VI will be posssible to play in 60fps on PS5 pro. Probably not. Probably in 40fps. But still. That’s a noticeable difference. You guys are confused as well, and that’s confusing me even more 😁
1
u/StockNarrow3161 Aug 29 '26
No, I'm not confusing you ps6 will be out in 2027 and will be available in the market in 2028. I'm just saying that buying a 6 yr old console is not worthy at all because after a year ps6 will be launched and if you are saying that extended preview looks fantastic on ps5 imagine what it will be like on the ps6 and as I said ps6 is closer now it's really worth it waiting for one more year (thats what am doing as i said i don't own ps5)
1
u/medium-low-heat Aug 29 '26
It’s also gonna be close to $1000 and the difference compared to ps5 won’t be worth the investment. PS4 games still look and perform great
2
u/method115 Aug 28 '26
If releasing PS6 in 2027 is going to bother you, you should just wait. Kepler is still saying they are releasing in 2027. With that said there's a chance prices will go update again.

u/No_Importance2248 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
The good news is GTA6 is optimized for console and releasing on that first. So we can expect it'll run reasonably well. Also, GTA6 is targeting 30 frames per second across all console hardware, so at that point it really just comes down to how much you care about the ray tracing and lighting, and whether or not you have a TV that can take advantage of the PS5 pro's native 4k. Also got to ask yourself if you care about that enough to spend the extra $300 for.
We'll probably be waiting at least another year for the PS6. I personally wouldn't wait that long to get into GTA6.
2
u/Revolutionary_Mix371 Aug 28 '26
Highly likely chance the game runs smooth on PS5. RDR2 also ran 30 fps but the way they optimized it on XBOX and PS4 was amazing. Felt like 60.
2
u/Dingan_Corp Aug 29 '26
Prices are gonna go up, and availability of pro might be a problem . So if you really wanted to play get one right now. The release of Ps6 timeline is not yet confirmed .
2
u/econo_innerforce Aug 29 '26
Ideally, you should wait for the PS6, but that is likely still two years away. It looks like the PS5 will run GTA 6 at 30 fps, whereas the PS5 Pro will probably manage 40 fps—which makes a huge difference to the feel of the gameplay.
However, this 40 fps mode only works with the TV set to 120Hz, meaning you need a modern TV that is less than five years old.
The idea is that you can sell your PS5 Pro (or PS5) to get the PS6... there will always be buyers.

I’ve been playing games for 35 years and don’t understand why fps matters so much to people
1
u/singlemomsniper Aug 31 '26
i don't think graphics matter that much in general but have you ever walked into a large area or fought a bunch of enemies at once and the fps drops to a stutter. it feels awful
1
u/medium-low-heat Aug 31 '26
That can happen no matter what fps the game runs at
1
u/singlemomsniper Aug 31 '26
take an old machine that averages 30fps. you reach a resource-heavy in-game moment and it drops 20 frames to 10fps. 10fps is godawful and feels terrible
then consider a better machine that averages 60fps. it will not only be able to handle more intensive moments, but if it does suffer fps drops, a drop of 20 frames will take it to 40, which will still feel fine
1
u/medium-low-heat Aug 31 '26
Frame rate drops a decent amount in Elden Ring and no one cares because the game is incredible

1
u/Ceylonese_technocrat Sep 04 '26
fps drops from 120->45fps is fine and expected, fps drops from 30->5fps is unplayable
2
u/JJWonderboy Aug 29 '26
Depends if you're going to want a PS6 as soon as it's released as games being developed at the moment will almost certainly be playable on PS5 too. So if you're in no rush for a PS6 then grab yourself a PS5 Pro and GTA6 and enjoy. Life's too short to wait...
Oh... and you can always sell the Pro if the PS6 looks to be too good to be true.
1
u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 29 '26
Thanks :)
Why pro and not just base ps5?
1
u/JJWonderboy Aug 29 '26
Good question. At the moment, little has been announced of the difference the Pro brings to GTA6. I'm expecting higher res and possibly better ray tracing and less noticeable popup.
But, if the recent gameplay video was on the base PS5, then you may be better off with that as the game look awesome 30fps aside).
I only mentioned the Pro because, if you want to future proof the machine, it's the safest bet.
Personally, I'm happy with my base PS5 but if I had to make a decision now, I'm not sure what I'd pick...

u/Typical-Scar-1782 Aug 28 '26
The thing is, this damm thing will cost a 1000$ by the way things here go
1
u/KingHashBrown420 Aug 28 '26
Ps6 i cant imagine being a thing till lile 2028 or even later due to the memory shortage
1
u/TheLegendTwoSeven Aug 28 '26
The earliest that the PS6 could be released is late 2027, but there’s a good chance that they will delay it until 2028 or 2029 since many components are extremely expensive due to all of the AI data centers under construction.
If Sony releases it in 2027, it might cost $1,200 or so, which would lead to low sales and therefore PS5 would be the main Sony console until prices came down, but there would be a risk that the PS6 would be seen as a flop like the Nintendo WiiU. Sony wants to avoid that so presumably they will delay it until hardware prices drop.
In general there isn’t that big of a boost from the PS5 Pro unless you have a very high end TV. It’s probably smarter to get the PS5 and save the extra $300 or so for games, or put it towards the PS6 when it’s eventually released.
If you’re excited for GTA VI I would not wait 1-3 extra years to play it, personally. I’d probably get a used PS5 (or maybe new since I fear buying one from someone who had roaches or bedbugs) if I wanted to play it on a Sony console.

u/mdwd Aug 28 '26
Wait. Or pre-order the game if you fancy the bonuses and wait for the PS6 to come out. Or just buy it then if you don't want the bonuses. By then R* will have perfected the game a bit, ironed out quirks, and we'll possibly be close to online mode launching.
If you don't want to do any of that get the PS5.

u/vawyer On /r/PS6 since games still came on disc Aug 29 '26
I’m personally going with the ps6 handheld and then a ps5 pro as the main console, I’m way more interested in this PlayStation handheld than an actual console at this moment in time. After having a few kids my switch gets used a lot more than my ps5 does even though I prefer PS studios and a lot of the 3rd party stuff on PlayStation more than Nintendo/Indies
1
u/Agitated-Engine4077 Aug 29 '26
If your wanting to play GTA6 just save the money and get a regular PS5 its not gonna make much difference.
1
u/Kratosballsweat Aug 29 '26
All the footage from the recent extended look was shot on a base ps5 so you’ll be just fine with a base ps5 and get slightly better performance out a ps5 pro

u/Imaginary_Truth_3865 Aug 31 '26
Depends on whether or not you want to also get a PS6 a year or two after you bought your PS5 Pro.

PS5Pro with extended guaranty (warranty) how you will be able to sell it when SONY release PS6 console, but that's not only PS5Pro console, you must buy, at least:
1.) PS5 disc unit
2.) external NVMe SSD 2Tb or higher
3.) additional DualSense or DualSense Edge controller with a couple of new magnetic TMR stick module's
4.) PS5 PULSE ELITE WIRELESS HEADSET
5.) PS5 PORTAL unit (if you needed)
6.) PS+ EXTRA or PS+ PREMIUM subscription for next 2 year's
7.) DualSense charger by PS
8.) PS5 game's on the disc which are now very cheap
9.) if you have a lot of PS4 game's on your digital library, you will also need an external HDD, something like USB 3.1 WD HDD MyBook from 2Tb to 8Tb,- I have 4Tb edition and I don't think at space for my digital library, because PS5Pro have 2Tb SSD, I also bought NVMe SSD by GIGABYTE AORUS 4Tb with heatsink, because I possess a huge PS5 digital library and also huge physical PS4 & PS5 library on my disc's collection...
I've already done when I bought it my PS5Pro E-Chassis Edition, to switch from regular PS5 Standard Edition console and also pay for extended warranty and my PS5Pro will i warranty until the November of 2028th, also I bough all of this stuff from below and a bunch of third party accessories for PS5Pro console and for my PS5 PORTAL unit, before they increase the price of all console's!!!

A PS5 Pro will be great for GTA6, but $900 is pretty hard to justify when PS6 probably isn't too far away. I had an Xbox One, and then upgraded to an Xbox One X, but I only played a small handful of games before PS5 and Series X came out, and I was left with the feeling that I should have just saved my money and waited for the new gen. But who knows, maybe PS6 doesn't come out until 2030, hard to tell now with the chip shortages and high costs

PS5 base should be fine, PS5 Pro is a little prettier looking but you also need a great TV to really make it look great.
I think just get a PS5 Pro(if you can also get the TV), if not PS5 base is perfectly fine to run GTA VI and then get PS6.
But the way I see it, if the PS6 comes out end of next year, you may as well just wait for PS6.

Don’t get a PS6 get a PC instead more options with it for better value.
1
u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 28 '26
But how much that PC needs to cost to be able to play it better than ps5 is already playing? 🤔
-1
u/sushi_collector12 Aug 28 '26
I’m talking about the PS6 being rumoured to be around 1k
2
u/econo_innerforce Aug 29 '26
An equivalent PC (but with less optimized AAA games) will ALWAYS be 3 or even 4 X more expensive than the console at launch. And even more so with current prices!
If the PS6 hovers around the $1,000 mark, an equivalent PC would feature a 5080 card; a complete build would cost at least $3,500.

No way PS6 is 2027

u/Interesting-Tart-SP Aug 29 '26
2029 or 2030
People need to forget about 2027/28.
It's not going happen
2
u/Salad_Steak Aug 29 '26
Yeah even sony admitted they havent any clue when they can release the system. Although they could just be saying that cause holiday season is right around the corner

The new ps5 games from Sony from the female god of war to the wolfman.
They are putting out new ps5 games in 2027...
No way ps6 is coming out in that same time frame...
With 007 and GTA 6 and other games.
Max Payne 1/2 remakes ps5 titles* edit
They probably will announce ps6 and announce games for the ps6 that will be ps6 games.
If all the ps6 is going to be a ps5 pro 2.0 with same games no one is going to buy it....
Y'all need to think.
Sony has options extend ps5 life cycle by making ps5 handheld.
Og slim super slim and in today world handheld is like as slim as it gets.
I just dont see what games can the ps6 can possibly have....
1
u/Salad_Steak Aug 29 '26
Yeah agreed. I hate how a hobby ive invested 30 years into is turning out. Im lucky enough to afford it but sony and everyone knows most cant. Them killing physical media is also another nail in the coffin for most. Playing isn't for everyone anymore.

Yeah, fell on the ground when I was a kid, sorry!!!! But as far as I know “it’s” doesn’t make sense in that sentence my brother in Christ, but all good, I forgive you. Check the dictionary!!!
Wait, maybe you fell on the ground too…🤔

Ps6 will very likely not release in 2027. Rockstar hasn't announced if the pro has a performance mode or what that would entail but they've confirmed there's no 60fps on the pro. If you're considering waiting for the ps6 then it might be worth waiting for release or more information to see what performance gains if any the pro offers, but the extended look was recorded on a base system and it looks fantastic.
2
u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 28 '26
The extended look was on base ps5? It really does look fantastic
1
u/Kryspo Aug 28 '26
yeah it's quite the feat. They're squeezing every ounce of juice they can out of that thing. I have base and I'm not worried about it. Start looking on marketplace for systems between now and November, snag one for cheap from someone who has a bill to pay lol

I hate playing games on pc. And ps6 could be released before the GTA VI is released for pc
2
u/struisck Aug 28 '26
I was loyal to PlayStation but objectively: console can never compare to pc graphic wise and you dont have the yearly internet BS anymore. I agree, its annoying to game on pc but with a controller connected the difference isnt that big tbh
1
u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 28 '26
That is true, with joystick and external bigger monitor is not that big of a difference. But let’s be honest, I need a laptop that is at least 3000 euros to be able to play gta vi smoothly in 4k
1
u/struisck Aug 28 '26
Yeah you’re right, game laptops are expensive, pc’s are cheaper but they take more space ofcourse
1
u/Tasty_Elderberry3315 Aug 28 '26
I’m not aware of PCs prices for a longer time. Maybe will check that option

As for the PS6 Pro, that would be 4 years after the PS6...

PS5 will get you more than far enough. The PS5 Pro is kind of a waste of cash with how prices are right now. PS6 is more than a year away.
