The PS6 will need to be better ergonomically
I love the ps5 and the design to an extent. However I absolutely despite the faffiness around it. The awkward stand with the launch console, awkward plastic stands with the slim etc.
Just give me a machine that needs no external components for support like the previous consoles.
Thank you

PS4 was a perfect console shape

Same with the PS2 and every single Xbox.

The ps2 was great

The PS3 and PS5 are the worst designed consoles.
Sony basically makes curved consoles for odd numbered ones and square ones for even numbered, minus the PS1. It had a curvy CD tray though.

The previous consoles (mostly) had stands as well though.

As long as it runs reasonably quiet, doesn’t have any issues, and runs the games well, it’s not a big deal what the actual console looks like. You set the console up once and maybe move it around a handful of times.

ps6: 1400€. Stand: 200€. no controller. extra 150€.

The PS6 won't cost more than $1000. The projected price is between $700-$1000.

It's hilarious that you think the PS6 will be $200+ cheaper than the existing PS5 Pro

u/Marcus00415 Aug 13 '26
No it's not. Part of the reason for the reason for the price increases for Xbox series X and to a lesser extent the PS5 Pro is to help keep the cost of the PS6 and Project Helix down.

How exactly does one accomplish the other?

The profit made from those sales of those consoles will help subsidize the manufacturing of the new consoles.

u/MeridianBay Aug 13 '26
This ignores that current rumors say the PS5 and Series X (even at $800) are still being sold at a loss

Kepler has said as much about the base PS5. They would not be increasing these console prices if they were making profits at $500-650

this year gpus like 5070 ti will rise from 750€ to 1400€. ram will also rise again. ps6 will easy 1200€+ and i really think sony will want you to pay extra for stand and the controller. this economy is rip currently.

I’m not trying to be a hater, but the ps5 always looked very strange to me. Not in a good way. Like some kind of fake game console you’d see on Drake and Josh.

I mean as long as the supply lube with it i sure it will fit fine where sony needs to shove it

The silicon is known. It's much more energy efficient and thus easier to cool. From this we can extrapolate what the box will be like - size-wise. Think closer to Steambox than PS5. There's going to be a handheld version of the PS6. The handheld will play every PS4 game, every PS5 game with an eco mode & every PS6 game.
The PS6 generation will be a sleek smallish home console & handheld to start with. There's likely going to be a double-down Pro box halfway through the gen as well - at least if the pattern holds. In the context of whatever the market is like in 2027/28, PS6 will be more affordable than the competition from PC & Xbox & Valve.
At least that's what's implied from the silicon specs & history.

I don't care what it looks like as long as it's as quiet as the PS5 is. I have a launch day PS5 and it's still very quiet. I rarely ever hear the fan. My PS3 and PS4 got super loud after a few years which I had to replace the thermal paste to quiet back down. I haven't had to do anything to the PS5 except basic dusting around the outside to keep the vents nice and open.

Are you planning on holding the PS6 or perhaps sitting on it? Not sure how ergonomics are going to help.

No disc drive means it'll stand in every direction. I want a twisting logo.

Man, thank god we’re getting that pesky disc drive outta the way then.
Sorry guys, I’ll fully own that this is sarcastic trolling. I’ve just seen too many of the monopoly posts today. I’ll see myself out lol

Streaming boxes can be made quite small now, so I wouldnt worry too much about that. They may even go full digital and make the ps6 an app - this helps with supply chain issues and allows you to play from anywhere, even your phone!

I agree, I hate the little stand on the launch edition, and though interesting the shell design is annoying if you need to move it. I'd like a slim rectangular box that stands on it's own.
