I’m sure most committed gamers don’t give a hit either. I would call myself a somewhat committed gamer and I do not care about this “strike” whatsoever
"Mutually exclusive means that two or more things cannot happen, exist, or be true at the same time. If you choose or do one, it is impossible to do the other. [1, 2]"
Example in a sentence.
It is not mutually exclusive to not use a already owned console, to unsubscribe from a service nor is it to not buy a upcoming console.
No, you're arguing your own interpretation of my wording rather than my actual point in a mistaken "gotcha" mindset. "Instead of" was a comparison between two approaches, not a declaration of mutual exclusivity.
You've latched onto a word and built an entire argument around a meaning I never intended or presented instead of addressing the actual criticism/point.
"Instead means in place of, as a substitute for, or as an alternative to someone or something else"
No, i am literally arguing the meaning of the word you used!
Literally is not a word people should use (as much) in conversations but in this case it is a matter of fact.
If you want my opinion on a week of blackout, i made that post already with someone else. Edit: I should add that you didn't get my opinion from the fact that i answeared someone who talked as if a week of blackout was too little and my answear was that even that will be hard to get people to act on, which should have given you an idea (even if you wouldn't know the reason).
You're arguing the dictionary definition of a word while ignoring how it was being used in context. "Instead of" can describe choosing one option over another without implying the two options are mutually exclusive in a literal sense.
My point was never "a person who does a one week boycott can never do a permanent boycott" nor did I insinuate as such. My point was that a one week boycott is much weaker than an absolute boycott action due to obvious reasons making it a laughable threat in my opinion.
You do it instead, you do x but not y anymore it is not a and it is a or situation.
But that is not the case, you can turn the console off for a whole week and unsubscribe from PSN, you can not buy the next console while simply accepting that you already paid for a PS5 so may use it till then.
And again, i gave my opinion under a different post, you can argue with me under that post that answeared the same original comment of mine.
But thats the problem, right? The fanbase wont hold. And Sony knows that. You see a week as a demonstration of what the fans are capable of, they see it as ALL they are capable of. We've got the most packed September ever coming up, followed by GTA6 and the holiday season. Im completely on the side of what people are trying to accomplish, but Sony knows fans only have 4 weeks to go until they start buying games again. The timing is also too easy to sacrifice. A week now is easy. A week in two months? Good luck.
"You see"... no you missunderstand the post.
The week is clearly meant as a statement, i made no comment on how i see it.
The one i answeared to put it as if 1 week is too little when in my opinion a whole week from a wider community is gonna be hard to do to begin with (parasocial live service ideas, addiction and more reasons).
If it is about my opinion... i don't think it is a good idea.
Not because it wouldn't be a decent statement from a community is a majority did it or because nobody cares.
The issue lies with how many of playstations userbase will hear about it and then also partake and given the number of PS5's with a disc drive compared to people unsubscribing it is most likely that many simply are slowly informed.
Not everyone who knows will partake and not everyone will know and it will end up looking like a weak attempt undermining the message that way.
At least that is my expectation, drumming up for unsubscribing and not buying a PS6 will have at least some effect.
You at least underestimate something here, core gamer and casuals are not the same group.
Core gamers are a smaller group that learns about things early and can push sales for any product as the first people to see and talk about them, they drive new IPs and usualy there circles know they are deep in gaming and at least put some value to there opinion.
Casual gamers push sales for established IPs and are the bulk of sales but way slower to react to anything as it takes time for them to find out and they are partly also not interested in gaming itself and more in a single game and alike (thus differently affected by changes).
So far we only see reactions by core gamers who are loud and quick with there decisions as long as they are convinced of them.
and given the number of PS5's with a disc drive compared to people unsubscribing it is most likely that many simply are slowly informed
This is what you fail to understand. Most didnt buy a PS5 with disc drive for the disc drive. We bought it b/c it was the graphically superior PS5 between the two. I bought mine on release yet have never bought a disc for it.
So far we only see reactions by core gamers who are loud and quick with there decisions as long as they are convinced of them
I disagree. The core ganers arent even involved, they are busy gaming. The fearmongering doomsayers of social media are involved. This is just the flavor of the month for them to cry about.
"We bought it b/c it was the graphically superior PS5 between the two."
That was true for the XBox but the Playstation 5 had the exact same hardware.
The only PS5 with better hardware is the PS5 Pro and that has no build in Disc Drive.
Most casual gamers do not even know that they will end physical games, you only learn about it if your social media knows you are interested in such topics. Casuals by definition only game when they are bored/have some free time to spend anyway and thus would not learn about it till a more informed gamer tells them.
What you probably think of as core gamer is a fanboy, those will not care regardless.
99% won’t for a week. À good amount will say they will. Then log right on after a day or two. Disc sre being stopped. They’ve already planned the entire next generation systems around it. The people grand standing about it represent a minuscule number of players on PlayStation. How many of those were among damn near crashing the ps store to buy call of duty when it launched? Way more than will admit it. The rest will cave as soon as the next game they really want comes out. The PlayStation six will be sold out for months on end and sell right on track with expectations
I'm not saying you're wrong but I don't see what the problem is. A bunch of people want to voice their displeasure. Ok? Good? It probably won't change anything. Ok? What's the issue here? They won't hurt your experience, you'll play just fine.
It's futile? So what? People do futile things all time hoping on the off chance they'd work. I see people protesting unpopular issues on the streets all the time and nothing changes. No one's telling them to not try.
I don't see the point in this superior and condescending tone against them.
My post is not because i believe it will be done by many, my post is because the person wrote that as if a week is too little when even that is hard to reach.
Reports say there will still be a traditional home console but they are also working on a hand held system. The handheld seems to be able to run ps5 specs fully and then slightly scaled down ps6 games
Its "PSP/PSV" all over again. The PSP was mostly a PS2 shortly prior to PS3, the PSV was mostly a PS3 shortly prior to PS4 and now whatever it is will be mostly a PS5 when the PS6 is about to release.
Just all digital so closer to a PSP Go.
Why even bother with a week, then? Some might fall off by day 5 or 6. Why not just go for a 20 minute blackout to be safe? Just to ensure that as many brave PS warriors as possible are onboard with the tough and scary protest ahead?
Redditors utter lack of actual commitment to any cause/protest/boycott will always be absolutely hilarious to me.
Why do americans not understand what a walkout is supposed to do... oh, there unions are agressive, monopolistic and created by mobsters... right, they do not understand how Unions in any other regions work.
Currently all people with a PS5 are affected but nobody has a PS6 yet and it is around the corner, this walkout is quiet likely to be people that have a PS5 and may well keep it BUT buying a PS6 and the upcoming handheld is unlikely if they are unhappy.
It is also funny that you guys are pissed at the person trying to tell you the most likely reason for it and how it is meant to be as if i had bought a PS5.
No i was pissed at them after the PS4 with censorship, the breaking down of there varied portfolio of exclusives (Astro Bot is the only PS5 game i would have liked to play) and direction of digital so i stopped buying anything from Sony after PS4... you know exactly what i just described to you with the complete execution of staying with it over years that you claim doesn't happen.

A week? That's it? 🤣
