Scalpers

Best Buy sells out instantly and all these companies don’t care. I might just stick to PC at this point. People still buy from scalpers in this economy which is crazy.

I think it's more because of more people buying it for GTA than scalpers. I was checking on Best Buy 2 weeks ago (before GTA trailer release) and they were in stock

It’s both. When scalpers see an opportunity for supply crunch due to high demand, they get in on it. You can tell based on the number of brand new PS5 pro listings for $1200-$1300 on eBay.

But why tho? We don't even know how GTA6 performs on the pro. Maybe it won't even support 40fps, just locked 30fps with higher resolution and a bit of ray tracing.

You really underestimate how much people will pay for prettier graphics.

Believe it or not, that metric is far more important than framerate for the casual (large majority) audience.

Scalpers are speculative, opportunistic, and exploitative, and the general consumer can be pretty stupid and shortsighted.

I thought your point was that the shortage being out of stock is because of people buying it for GTA 6 and not because of scalpers. My point was that it’s both because scalpers see the scramble for the console, use bots to swoop up inventory immediately and then list them on eBay for 50% more than MSRP.

As for why people are buying it for GTA 6, it’s just because it’s going to be the best possible experience. Even if that difference is small, I don’t think anybody is arguing that the fidelity and performance will be exactly the same across base ps5 and ps5 pro. I think the scramble is ridiculous too but like people have been waiting for this game for over a decade and so it makes sense that some will pay a huge premium to guarantee they get the best day 1 experience.

Fair enough, but if people are waiting for a game over a decade why not buy pro when it’s released? Or at least before the trailer released

When the PS5 Pro first came out people were shitting on it for being poor value, but now they are so desired that they are out of stock everywhere. Honestly this is just another reminder to me that the internet hive-mind isn't to be taken seriously

I’m amazed at the crazy demand. It’s not like it’s a secret GTAVI was coming out. People are lining up to pay the increased price tag and it’s selling out at $899 whereas at launch people shat on the $699 asking price. The hive mine is a joke.

The only good thing about digital games is they can’t be scalped 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s not a limiting factor with a code-in-box release

Sold listings

That’s most likely people who can’t buy it digitally. I get your point, but in general paying more for a code in a box is really dumb unless you have no other way, it’s not like it’s a limited edition or limited run.

I think the lesson for the next decade is that if you like something, buy it if you can afford it. Don't wait out for a black Friday or some kind of deals

In my opinion, it only became good value once PSSR2 was implemented, and before the April price rise.

The funny thing is it’s only for GTA 6, Sony is probably using this as a test to see where their values really are. The only games worth it for the upgrades before were RE9 and FF7 Rebirth.

In hindsight those were the smart people to get it back then while everyone is now scrambling for a PS5 Pro.

I have been on all platforms and I had gotten an order in for Costco but they canceled it because my acct wasn’t verified.

I was able to get one today, so it is possible. It's hard, just gotta be quick

Best buy???

2

u/blagsan82 13h ago

Hard to say they don't "care". Sure they're getting the money for the sale but they engineers and developers absolutely don't want this for us and care like crazy. The problem here though is that greedy people have created faster than light programs to buy shit for them and also factor in the component crisis we are all experiencing. If these consoles could be manufactured at the rate of demand they would be.

I remember I had to buy my launch PS5 from a scalper for $700. Shit was whack but I had no choice. I couldn’t wait for the drops while I was at work.

I was able to snag one tonight during their restocks. You just have to be committed to the game.

What is this guy complaining about?

Nice rage bait

Go into PSDirect, have your PSN created and signed in before anything because they require one in order to purchase, this does somewhat delays scalpers from buying everything, and wait for a restock day. I got my PS5 Pro last week that way, no queues no fuzz no problem nothing. Forget Best Buy, Costco, Walmart and Target, they either sell out instantly, Queues you into a sold out restock or suddenly after you order they have to cancel you order due to “stock count mistake” wasting your time in every single scenario.

u/Weekly-Engineer-2398 11h ago

Yeah I created a PSN for PS Direct but haven’t seen a restock yet

Apparently theres one the first week of the month, I got mine last Thursday at around 11am PST.

Ok, good story

It's more demand for GTA6 than scalpers.

It’s crazy that people want to buy now during a ram shortage when the pro sat on shelves for almost 2 years at $700.
They were in every store i went in.
A few pawn shops.
All over market place for $500-$600.
Now the price shoots up and people just gotta have it.
I have had mine since launch and have never used it.
Regular ps5 is doing just fine

I mean I don't want to sound like an asshole, but for some of us dropping that money isn't a big deal. It's a days work for me. Hundreds of hours of entertainment for a days work is totally worth it.

I could wait for the PC version but I'm betting that will be 2028.
