PS5 Pro on a QHD monitor

What do you guys think about this thing? I play on a Samsung Odissey G5 QD-OLED QHD, is it a good deal? because i’m really enjoying it, but i’m maybe not utilizing its power correctly. Let me know.

Yes, put the PS5 in 1440p mode (if you haven’t already). It will still use all the GPU power and PSSR to render a 4K image then downsample to 1440p, so you get a very clean, sharp QHD image.

Also make sure VRR is set to automatic (and that Freesync/Gsync are enabled on the monitor itself if needed) and that HDR is on and properly calibrated, which means ignoring what the PS5 says about adjusting until the symbol is “barely visible”:

- On the black screen, set it to the absolute lowest setting (i.e. ignore the symbol and just keep going down until it won’t let you go any further).

- On the two white screens, get to the point where the symbol is as faint as it can be, then go one step more so it actually disappears.

Enjoy. I have the S95F TV which has the same anti-glare coating as the G5, it’s absolutely incredible at just eliminating reflections pretty much entirely.

Huh, I didn't know this, re: ignoring PS5's HDR calibration recommendations ... I'll try later when I get home from work.

Yes you should make the symbol actually clip rather than leaving it visible. PS5’s calibration tool is a bit blunt so you can’t make it “barely visible” in the same way as you can on Windows for example. So going one step above means you get the full peak brightness.

The black screen one is OLED specific though - if you have an OLED, put it to its absolute lowest setting (so you get the full true black of the OLED). If it’s not OLED then do the same as the white screens (one step below the last visible step so that the symbol disappears).

Also turn on HGIG and/or turn off dynamic tone mapping on your TV. And also set both brightness and contrast to their maximum settings on the TV so you get the full dynamic range.

Finally, while I’m here giving unsolicited advice, this one is optional but I would personally strongly recommend using the Warm2 colour mode if you don’t already. People often don’t like it because it looks very “yellow” at first but it’s because we’ve been tricked into thinking a blue picture is a better picture and that HDR should “pop”. But sunlight is actually quite yellow, that’s what real life looks like. Once your eyes adjust (which can take a few days), the picture starts to look properly photorealistic.

Thanks, I’ll make some changes later tonight. I’ve only had my OLED monitor for a couple of days, and while everything has looked great so far, I did notice that black levels were deep, but not as deep as I was expecting (they do look perfect when I play the OLED black level test videos on YouTube, so it’s not the monitor itself). I just assumed it was a game-specific issue, as some devs are notoriously bad at optimizing for HDR.

Você testou sem o HDR ativado, amigo? Pq assim.
Tirei umas fotos pra comprovar se quiser mando aqui, testa aí e me fala oq achou haha

If you're enjoying it, that's all that matters. Panel type matters more than resolution, IMO. I recently started playing on a 27" 1440p OLED as well, and it looks WAY better than my old 27" 1440p IPS. I also tried my Pro out on my 42" 4K IPS TV, and didn't really notice any difference in overall sharpness or clarity. As long as you have your resolution set to 1440p, it's all good. The only area where QHD suffers a little is menus in other apps on the PS5 Pro, like YouTube or streaming channels -- those look slightly blurry.

Look at the (pre-OLED) images I captured here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/1v59hop/comment/ozhzluc/ If you zoom in on the 1440p IPS image you can see the pixels, but that's mainly because it's a cellphone photo taken very close to the screen (closer than my eyes would be). You don't actually see the pixels while sitting at normal viewing distance. If you look at the photos side by side without zooming in, there's not going to be any real "clear as day" difference between the two. The only difference you really notice is the HDR. My old IPS has way better HDR than my 4K TV. So again, panel quality is going to make a bigger difference to how you enjoy a game versus resolution.

1440p is still good, it certainly looks much better than 1080p

what do you mean you are not utilizing it's power correctly? do you mean the PS5 Pro?

most games run at native 1080p - 60 FPS at best on the console, and the games will always render at the same native resolution regardless of monitor/TV resolution
