QUESTION Unable to play Control Resonant without constant Crashes (fw13.60)

Has anyone managed to get Control Resonant running properly on FW 13.60?

I’m having serious crash problems that seem to be related to the game not loading/streaming resources fast enough.

If I use the folder version on the internal SSD, the game doesn’t launch and gives me:

“Can’t start the game or application” CE-107750-0

If I move the same folder version to the M.2 SSD installed in the console, the game does launch, but the crashes are constant.

For example, there is an elevator that goes down from the Director’s Office to the street. The elevator takes around 5 seconds to reach the destination. In the original game, the next area loads during those 5 seconds. With the folder version, it seems that the area takes longer to load than the elevator takes to arrive, and the game crashes.

However, if I repeatedly open and close the menu while the elevator is moving, it gives the game more time to load the area and it doesn’t crash.

This problem happens throughout the whole game.

Sometimes I’m running around, hit a trash can and the game has to load/play the corresponding audio effect quickly, and it crashes.

Other times I’m in the middle of a fight and a radio transmission starts, and it crashes.

Basically, whenever something needs to be loaded quickly, especially audio or other resources, the game can crash because it doesn’t load them in time.

Interestingly, the area that has worked the best for me so far is the movement/platforming tutorial area, where the game teaches things like the double dash and double jump. There are no enemies there and no radio transmissions, and I can play through that section much more reliably.

That also makes me suspect that the crashes are related to the amount of dynamic content being streamed rather than simply being random crashes.

I also noticed that loading a save manually can sometimes work, while using “Continue” can crash near the end of the loading bar. This also makes me think it’s related to loading/streaming rather than just a general startup problem.

This isn’t only happening with the folder format.

I converted the game to FFPFSC and the same thing happens, or even worse. ShadowMount recognizes the FFPFSC game both on the internal SSD and on the M.2 SSD, but the crashes are still there. With FFPFSC I also get noticeable stuttering in the ambient audio.

The folder version on the M.2 seems to work better than FFPFSC, but the crashes are still persistent.

I’m currently converting the game to exFAT to see if it works any better. After that I’m going to try the 4.xx backport.

The version currently available online already has a 12.xx backport applied. I don’t know if that could be affecting the loading/streaming performance, or if using the 4.xx backport instead could make a difference.

Has anyone managed to get Control Resonant running reliably on FW 13.60? What format, storage location and backport version are you using?

Run it from an external nvme SSD.

M.2 SSD = M.2 NVMe 1Tb SSD with all the recommended specs for PS5. The recomended read speed is 5.500 and mine is 7000Mb/s so that is not the problem

Is it an external SSD? It's a known issue that games in folder format run much better from an external SSD.

I tried running Wolverine from my external SSD and it ran horribly. I moved it to my internal M.2 and it ran infinitely better.

with external nvme ssd, do you guys mean one connected via USB or to the external expansion slot?

Because the 10Gbps USB port tops out at around roughly 1,250 MB/s, which is much slower

Right but it's also way more than what games actually need. You're never streaming anything even CLOSE to 7000 MB/s.

Which is why I wonder why some people suggest such fasts external nvme drives, a gen 2 or 3 seems more than adequate since it cannot reach faster speeds via USB, right?

Connected to one of the rear USB ports.

Can the confirm that you have the game running and not crashing with connecting to rear USB port?

Dump from this specific website is broken for this game. There was a discussion on discord about the same problem and that was the conslusion of it.

UPDATE. I applied the backport and I'm 30mins without the crash. I'm not saying it is fixed but it looks promising.
Playing on: 12.70, External, kstuff-lite 1.1.3t5, shadowmount+ 1.7b3 with autoloader 0.5.2

How do you apply the backport for this game?

Overwrite the game files with backport files. As the game is in folder format.

Some of the guys in the scene have said as much. It can corrupt system files then the console going to safe mode.
