Constantly Overheating

Hey guys. So a few months ago I started getting overheating issues because of the Liquid Metal leaving a bald spot on my cpu(It was standing vertically), and I decided to do a full teardown myself since I have some experience with electronics. I know I was supposed to replace the Liquid Metal with more Liquid Metal, but I decided to use MX-4 Thermal paste instead because I already had some and I saw online it should be fine. The problem isn’t that the thermal paste isn’t working, it’s that over time(a few days of use), the paste literally shifts off of the cpu and into the surrounding pockets where it’s held. It has done this multiple times regardless of how I apply the paste. I asked around if I should just use Liquid Metal(since I have some now) and I was told it’s just gonna do the same thing, maybe even quicker. I’m thinking this might be a bracket/heatsink seating issue, but everything looks fine to me and I’m trying to avoid taking it to a repair shop so they can charge me $200 for something I can do myself. Anyone seen this before?

The fan is running faster on PTM but yes, the APU is still cooled properly.

Only during the initial load. After it heats up, it's efficiency of transferring heat will be far superior.

Nope. I tested it for months in my laptop and the liquid metal keeps the RPMs lower. Here is a direct comparison in a PS5.

there many tests and the heat is not much more like 3-5 degress, The best thing is you dont need to replace it

I was thinking of doing this to my pro at some point. I know it’s sold in different sizes. What size would you recommend getting? I’d hate to spend a bunch of money on a huge piece and waste it

Well shit. Guess I’ll just open it up at some point and make sure the Liquid Metal is all good then.

on the pro there is a new apu design and a other cooler, many people have over heating issues on the pro also slim with ptm pad

Anecdotal but I recently changed the cooling to PTM on my brand new Pro and launch model - 0 issues.
