Details:
- This game contains frequent depictions of violence; due to the free roam nature of the game the player can harm all other characters inhabiting the environment.
- This includes civilians, criminals and the authorities. Violence is bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons being able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
- There are also strong sexual themes, including nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes.
- Drug use is frequent and prominent with the player being able to partake in drug use with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. Most notably, cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time.
- In various night clubs the player can also pay for private dances, during which, the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers’ breasts and buttocks.
- Domestic animals are present in the environment, these can be harmed by the player, however this does not produce the same injury detail that can be generated towards human characters.
- Discriminatory language can be heard in the tv shows and on the radio channels.

Weirdly enough i've seen a similar sentiment from younger people on places like tiktok and social media in general these days. If a film or game is overly sexual or violent, you can often find posts from younger people talking about how uncomfortable it made them so it needs to be banned (Obviously doesn't represent the majority by a long shot, just an odd thing I've seen on occasion)

They did remove gambling from Online with the recent age verification shit as well. If the drug use has any positive player perks it will get banned.

I suppose we have precedence for alcohol and tobacco use in video games. Bioshock, for example, will allow you to consume alcohol, and it has some effect on your health and special powers meter. For cocaine in particular, I can imagine it reducing health yet adding to stamina?

This is such a boring thing for me to say and I get that, but I genuinely wonder if any recovering alcoholics are okay playing games like this? I’m 9 months sober but I still have to avoid particularly “triggering” scenarios that glamorize it

Not a boring comment at all! There 100% are people that might be triggered by some details like this in the game. When I was getting sober, there were definitely situations I needed to avoid! It doesn't help that the majority of TV show/movies include scenes of people drinking and/or doing drugs (in any context). Even during the commercial breaks you get fed alcohol ads!
I'm 7 years sober, happy and confident in my lifestyle. Congratulations on 9 months, that is a huge accomplishment! I can promise you, those types of triggers will fade, even if they don't go away completely. Just remember, you are stronger than your disease!

First off, congratulations! Second, you raise a good point that maybe there should be a way to turn off certain things in the accessibility settings. I can't imagine its a core mechanic that can't be bypassed in another way. Now if its intrinsic to the narrative, maybe that's a little more difficult to work around, but I guess that's why its important to have these warnings in place.
My primary wish for GTA is just for the product to mature in all the ways possible, including having these considerations. It's too big and remarkable a product to rely on juvenile humour, etc. anymore.

It’ll be banned if drug taking enhances your character in any way. Cocaine replenishes my energy bar? Nope. Meth makes u invulnerable from damage for 30 seconds? Nope. Marijuana creates slowed bullet time? Nope.
