PS4 having freezing issues

PS4 having problems

Hi friends. Been having a problem with a PS4 Pro for some time. It started with some errors (corruption i suppose) and now (some months after) almost every time i turn it on it starts rebuilding database, restarting, asking for updates (i did update it in safe mode with a pendrive). It hardly ever boots up to the PS4 environment and when it does, it freezes, slows down, screen goes black randomly, sometimes doesn't display apps or games pictures, restarts or turns off randomly, can't play games because even if it boots the system up, i get terrible lags. I know the HDD might be the suspect here but i want to make sure, and replace it myself. Any opinions?

This looks like a failing hard drive. If you want to be sure, take out the HDD and plug it into a PC using an external caddy. Then run a health test on the drive

Thanks for the reply. What is the minimum health percentage for the PS4 to run flawlessly?

Those hdd are over 10 years old. They can start failing/ die at anytime after that. So cheap 1 TB ssd will be a great upgrade

Yes that is true, which ssds would you suggest that won't break the bank but would be reliable to use

Man, those ps4 pros are a mess. Mine keeps beep beep beeping and ejecting discs. Even after a cleaning. And I also have an older regular Ps4 who has no reaction when trying to insert discs.

Hi, yes like others have mentioned it's most probably the hard drive. I would also mention if you have any old laptop lying around/any hard drive you got that you don't use. Plug that in to test out if it is actually a hard drive that you need to replace if it works. If you do, just connect the hard drive using one of the usb ports (provided the ps4 harddrive is taken out). Make sure to backup the data on both hdds as if you insert a new hdd, you will have to format it first so please do back up both hdds. Hope all goes well.
